WesBanco Inc serves individuals and businesses through Wesbanco Bank, with branches in West Virginia, Ohio and neighboring states. The bank takes customer deposits and uses that funding, supplemented by borrowings, to make loans and hold investment securities. Borrowers and securities issuers pay it interest; the amount left after its own interest costs is its largest source of revenue. Loans contribute most of its interest income.
Customers also pay fees for banking and investment services. These include managing trusts and customer investments and advising the WesMark Funds. Fee income supplements the bank’s lending business rather than driving most revenue.
The business depends on retaining deposits, borrowers repaying their loans, and the gap between interest earned and funding costs. Commercial real estate accounts for most of its loans, tying repayment closely to property markets in the regions it serves. Federal and state banking rules constrain lending, investments and growth through capital and other requirements, and restrict how much the bank can pay its parent in dividends.
The risk section is the longest, dullest part of the filing. This keeps only what can really hurt you: where it hits, how hard, when it plays out.
Every company claims an edge. Each one is checked against hard numbers like margins and returns: which hold, and which line gives way first.

WesBanco Inc earningsThis company
WesBanco earns much of its income from interest on loans and securities minus what it pays for deposits and borrowings, and this report will show whether that spread is holding up without credit losses eroding it.
Read net interest margin alongside credit quality. Net interest margin is the gap between interest earned on assets and the cost of funding them. A steady or wider margin with no marked rise in loan-loss provisions or past-due loans would show that WesBanco is preserving its interest income without a clear rise in credit costs. A narrowing margin alongside worsening credit measures would show funding costs or borrower stress squeezing that income.
Community Trust Bancorp Inc earningsCTBI
Community Trust Bancorp's report will show whether it is attracting deposits or paying more to keep them in Kentucky markets where it competes with WesBanco.
Read Community Trust Bancorp's deposit trends alongside its deposit costs. Growing deposits without a marked rise in cost would suggest it is attracting customers in overlapping markets without sharply raising what it pays, making it harder for WesBanco to win local deposits. Weak deposits or rising costs would point to strain in customer relationships or a higher price for funding.
Fulton Financial Corp earningsFULT
Fulton Financial's report will show whether business lending, especially commercial property and construction loans, is growing without more credit trouble in Pennsylvania and Maryland markets it shares with WesBanco.
Compare Fulton Financial's business-loan growth with changes in past-due or problem loans and loan-loss provisions, especially for commercial property and construction. Loan growth with stable credit measures would suggest borrowing and repayment remain sound in these markets; weaker lending with more credit trouble would point to pressure on demand or borrowers, a signal to watch in WesBanco's own overlapping loan markets.
EIA Crude Oil Stocks Change (Oct/16)
The weekly EIA stocks report tracks crude oil and fuel held in storage, and changes in those inventories can move prices that affect activity and customer health in Wesbanco’s shale markets, its customers’ royalty deposits and the quality of its loans.
Lower crude and fuel stocks can point to tighter supply and firmer prices, supporting shale activity, customers and royalty deposits in Wesbanco’s regional markets; higher stocks can point to weaker prices and greater pressure on customers and loan quality.
Northwest Bancshares, Inc earningsNWBI
Northwest Bancshares' report will show whether it can retain deposits without raising what it pays for them in markets it shares with WesBanco, offering a clue to the funding costs facing both banks.
Read Northwest Bancshares' deposit balances alongside the interest it pays on deposits. Stable or growing deposits without higher costs would suggest it can keep funding in overlapping markets without bidding much more, potentially intensifying WesBanco's competition for deposits. Deposit losses or rising costs would show that funding is getting more expensive, which can squeeze both banks' interest spreads.
Fed Interest Rate Decision
Wesbanco’s interest-rate decision tracks the cost of borrowing across the economy, which can change the interest it earns on loans and securities and pays on deposits and borrowings, its largest source of revenue.

If it comes in above expectations
If the policy rate is higher than expected, yields on repricing loans and securities may rise, but Wesbanco’s net interest income may still fall if its deposit and borrowing costs rise faster.
If it comes in below expectations
If the policy rate is lower than expected, yields on repricing loans and securities may fall, but Wesbanco’s net interest income may improve if its deposit and borrowing costs fall faster.
