Peoples Bancorp is a financial holding company whose main business runs through Peoples Bank, an Ohio-chartered bank. It gathers deposits from individuals, businesses and municipalities across Ohio, Kentucky, West Virginia, Virginia, Washington, D.C. and Maryland, then uses that funding to make loans and invest in securities. Interest received from borrowers and investments, less interest paid on deposits and borrowings, supplies most of its revenue.
Commercial lending makes up most of the loan portfolio, with commercial real estate the largest category. Repayment of those property loans comes from businesses’ operating cash flow or tenants’ rent. Beyond its regional banking business, Peoples Premium Finance works with independent insurance agencies nationwide to finance customers’ insurance premiums, while North Star Leasing and Vantage provide equipment leases and financing. Smaller revenue sources include card and account fees, trust and investment services, insurance commissions through Peoples Insurance, and equipment lease income.
The business depends on attracting deposits at a cost below what its loans and investments earn, and on borrowers repaying their debts. Banking operations also rely significantly on a single systems vendor. Regulatory capital requirements constrain banking activity, and banking laws limit the dividends Peoples Bank can send to the holding company, which supplies nearly all of the parent’s liquidity.
The risk section is the longest, dullest part of the filing. This keeps only what can really hurt you: where it hits, how hard, when it plays out.
Every company claims an edge. Each one is checked against hard numbers like margins and returns: which hold, and which line gives way first.

First Commonwealth Financial Corporation competes with Peoples for household and business banking customers in Ohio; both also serve customers seeking wealth management and insurance.

Peoples Bancorp Inc/OH earningsThis company
Peoples Bancorp earns most of its revenue from interest on loans and investments, so this report will show whether that income can cover funding costs and credit losses.
Read net interest income and net interest margin alongside the provision for credit losses. Stronger interest income and margin with a contained provision would show that loan and investment income is covering deposit and borrowing costs without a marked increase in expected loan losses. Weaker income or margin with a rising provision would point to funding costs squeezing the spread, or borrower losses eating into earnings.
Community Trust Bancorp Inc earningsCTBI
Community Trust Bancorp’s report will show how it competes for borrowers and deposits in Kentucky and West Virginia communities it shares with Peoples Bancorp.
Look at Community Trust Bancorp’s loan yields and deposit costs alongside lending and deposit trends. Steady loan demand with contained deposit costs would suggest competition is not forcing banks to pay heavily for funding, easing potential margin pressure on Peoples in those communities. Compressed loan yields or high deposit costs would point to tougher competition for borrowers and deposits, making it harder for Peoples to preserve its spread.
1st Source Corp earningsSRCE
1st Source’s report will show demand and repayment in equipment loans and leases, offering a read-through to Peoples Bancorp’s nationwide equipment-finance business.
Read 1st Source’s equipment-loan and lease activity alongside delinquencies, charge-offs, or credit-loss measures. Steady business with contained losses would suggest equipment-finance demand and repayment are holding up, a constructive read-through for Peoples’ nationwide equipment financing and small-ticket leases. Weaker activity or rising losses would flag demand or repayment pressure, though it would not establish that Peoples has the same results.
Fed Interest Rate Decision
For Peoples Bank, the Fed’s interest-rate decision matters because it can change what the bank earns on loans, leases and investments versus what it pays on deposits and borrowings, its largest source of revenue.

If it comes in above expectations
If rates rise more than expected, yields on Peoples Bank’s variable-rate commercial loans may increase, but higher costs on deposits and borrowings could offset that gain or outweigh it.
If it comes in below expectations
If rates rise less than expected or fall, variable-rate commercial-loan yields may rise less or decline, while deposit and borrowing costs may also increase less or decline; the net effect depends on which changes faster.
