S&T Bancorp Inc is a bank holding company serving individuals and small and medium-sized businesses through S&T Bank. Its branches are in Pennsylvania and Ohio, and its customers are concentrated in Pennsylvania and nearby states. Customer deposits provide most of the funding for its lending and securities holdings. Borrowers pay interest on loans, and securities generate interest income; what remains after interest paid on deposits and other funding is its main source of revenue. Account, card and wealth management services also bring in fees.
Most loans are to commercial borrowers, including businesses financing their operations, commercial properties and construction. The business therefore depends on local companies’ cash flow and property income supporting repayments, a stable deposit base, and the difference between the interest it earns and pays.
Banking regulations govern lending, investments, capital and growth. The parent company receives a substantial part of its own revenue as dividends from S&T Bank, and laws and regulatory capital requirements limit those transfers.
The risk section is the longest, dullest part of the filing. This keeps only what can really hurt you: where it hits, how hard, when it plays out.
Every company claims an edge. Each one is checked against hard numbers like margins and returns: which hold, and which line gives way first.
First Commonwealth Financial Corporation competes with S&T for consumer and business banking customers across Pennsylvania and Ohio; both are similarly sized banks headquartered in Indiana, Pennsylvania.
Northwest Bancshares, Inc competes directly with S&T for household and business deposits and loans across Pennsylvania and northeastern Ohio. Its home mortgages and commercial loans offer a comparison for S&T’s lending business in those markets.
CNB Financial Corp/PA competes with S&T for Pennsylvania households’ and businesses’ deposits, loans and wealth-management accounts. Its July 2025 acquisition of ESSA extended its branch network into northeastern Pennsylvania, including the Lehigh Valley, expanding its reach for those customers.
Fulton Financial Corp competes with S&T for consumers and small and medium-sized businesses in Pennsylvania and neighboring states, offering loans, deposits and wealth management. Its lending to small and medium-sized businesses is a useful comparison for the customer group S&T focuses on.
Citizens Financial Services, Inc. competes with S&T for personal and business banking in overlapping Pennsylvania and neighboring-state markets through First Citizens Community Bank. Its residential and business loans provide a window into lending conditions in the markets the two banks share.
WSFS Financial Corp competes with S&T for business, consumer and wealth-management customers in Pennsylvania and Delaware. Its much larger trust business and nationwide service supplying and moving cash for ATM and smart-safe operators make its overall results less directly comparable to S&T’s.
NBT Bancorp Inc competes with S&T for individual and business loans and deposits in overlapping Pennsylvania and New York markets. Its northeastern Pennsylvania and upstate New York banking business is the relevant comparison, rather than its wider New England footprint.
CUSTOMERS BANCORP INC’s Pennsylvania-based Customers Bank competes with S&T for business loans and deposits, but its national specialty lending and payments operations make it a less direct comparison.
SB Financial Group, Inc.’s Ohio-based State Bank competes with S&T for individual and small-business loans, deposits and wealth-management customers in Ohio.
Princeton Bancorp, Inc. competes with S&T for business and consumer loans and deposits in southeastern Pennsylvania and neighboring New Jersey markets. Its Bank of Princeton’s home, commercial-property and business loans are the lending lines to compare in those shared markets.
Fulton Financial Corp earningsFULT
Fulton Financial’s report will show how small and midsize businesses are borrowing and repaying in Pennsylvania and nearby markets, where S&T Bancorp serves the same customer group.
Compare Fulton Financial’s business lending with its provision for credit losses, the expense set aside for expected loan losses. Growing lending with a steady provision suggests businesses in these shared markets are borrowing without a marked rise in repayment risk, a supportive sign for S&T Bancorp’s lending to similar customers. Weaker lending or a rising provision points to softer demand or greater borrower stress, making S&T’s market environment more challenging.
S&T Bancorp Inc earningsThis company
S&T Bancorp earns interest on loans and securities and pays for deposits and other funding; this report will show whether the gap still supports income without credit losses taking a bigger bite.
Read net interest income and net interest margin alongside the provision for credit losses—the expense set aside for expected loan losses. If income and margin hold or rise without a larger provision, lower funding costs are still supporting S&T Bancorp and borrower repayment is not offsetting that benefit. If margin narrows or the provision grows, funding relief is weakening or credit stress is taking more from earnings.
Initial Jobless Claims (Oct/17)
Weekly jobless claims count new applications for unemployment benefits; for S&T Bank, a weakening job market can strain Pennsylvania and Ohio borrowers' repayments, raise loan losses and provisions, and reduce demand for banking services.
Expected200.0KLast release199.0K
If it comes in above expectations
If the reading is above the 200.0K estimate, it is above the previous 199.0K. More claims than expected would signal rising layoffs and a weaker labour market, which could make S&T Bank's commercial and consumer borrowers more likely to miss payments and increase credit-loss provisions.
If it comes in below expectations
Fewer claims than expected would point to a steadier job market, helping S&T Bank's commercial and consumer borrowers keep up with payments and easing pressure on credit-loss provisions.
Fed Interest Rate Decision
For S&T Bancorp, Fed rate decisions can change what S&T Bank earns on loans and securities and pays on deposits and borrowings, shifting its net interest income—the interest earned minus interest paid.
Expected4.0%Last release4.0%
If it comes in above expectations
If rates rise more than expected, S&T Bank may earn more on loans and securities that reprice, but also pay more for deposits and borrowings; the net effect on its interest income depends on how quickly and by how much each side adjusts.
If it comes in below expectations
If rates fall more than expected, S&T Bank may earn less on loans and securities that reprice, but may also pay less for deposits and borrowings; the net effect depends on how quickly and by how much each side adjusts.
Non Farm Payrolls (Oct)
The monthly jobs report counts jobs added or lost; for S&T Bank, employment in its Pennsylvania and Ohio markets affects whether commercial and consumer borrowers can repay loans, shaping delinquencies, credit losses and provisions.
More jobs and stronger income would tend to help S&T Bank's borrowers repay loans and ease pressure on delinquencies and credit-loss provisions; fewer jobs and weaker income could do the opposite.
Retail Sales MoM (Oct)
Retail sales track consumer spending at retailers; weaker spending could hurt the ability of S&T Bank's consumer and business borrowers to repay loans and reduce demand for its deposits, loans and cash-management services.
Stronger retail spending could support repayment by S&T Bank's consumer and business borrowers and demand for its loans and cash-management services; weaker spending could strain repayment and reduce that demand.
