Company

Company overview

Community Trust Bancorp Inc owns Community Trust Bank, Inc. and Community Trust and Investment Company. They serve individuals and businesses in small and mid-sized communities across parts of Kentucky, southern West Virginia and northeastern Tennessee. The bank accepts deposits and provides business, home and consumer loans, while also holding investments that earn interest.

Borrowers’ loan interest and interest from investment securities provide its main revenue. After paying interest on deposits and borrowings, the company retains the difference, making the gap between these rates central to earnings. Customers also pay for deposit-account services, lending, and trust and wealth management. The trust business manages investments and administers trusts and estates.

The business depends on retaining deposits and on local borrowers’ ability to repay. Deposits do not depend on any single customer or customer group, but lending is geographically concentrated, and most loans are secured by real estate. Local business conditions and property values therefore matter to repayment and collateral. Banking rules also require the company to maintain minimum levels and types of capital.
