AngloGold Ashanti extracts gold-bearing ore from open-pit and underground mines. It processes the ore at its sites into partly refined gold bars, called doré, then sends them to precious-metals refineries. Bullion banks buy the refined gold directly from the company. Gold supplies most of its revenue; silver and sulphuric acid produced during extraction contribute much less.
Its mines span Africa, Australia, Argentina and Brazil, with Africa generating most of its gold income. The company operates most of its mines, but Barrick runs the jointly owned Kibali mine in the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
Cash generation depends on how much gold the mines recover and sell, the market gold price, and mining and processing costs. Continuing production also requires replacing reserves depleted by mining through exploration, project development or acquisitions. Mining rights, environmental permits and water-use approvals govern where and how it can operate. In Colombia, environmental restrictions and permitting disputes have prevented planned exploration or development at Quebradona.
The risk section is the longest, dullest part of the filing. This keeps only what can really hurt you: where it hits, how hard, when it plays out.
Every company claims an edge. Each one is checked against hard numbers like margins and returns: which hold, and which line gives way first.
Barrick and AngloGold Ashanti both sell gold into world markets, but the more direct tie is Kibali: each owns 45%, and Barrick runs the mine. Barrick’s Kibali production news therefore bears directly on AngloGold Ashanti’s share of output.
Gold Fields and AngloGold Ashanti both earn money from gold mined in Ghana and Australia, exposing them to the same gold market and regional mining costs. Watch news on their neighboring Tarkwa and Iduapriem mines: talks to combine them into a Gold Fields-operated mine were paused in May 2025.
Newmont and AngloGold Ashanti are large gold producers whose exposure to gold prices and mining costs overlaps in Australia, Ghana and Argentina. Newmont’s energy, labor and equipment costs offer a comparison for the pressures on AngloGold Ashanti’s gold-mining margins.
Agnico Eagle and AngloGold Ashanti produce gold at comparable annual volumes, with sales exposed to spot prices. Agnico Eagle traditionally sells at spot rather than locking in future gold prices; AngloGold Ashanti has likewise had no gold-production hedges since January 1, 2025, making Agnico’s gold sales a useful price-exposure comparison.
Kinross and AngloGold Ashanti share exposure to the world bullion market: both mine gold and turn it into partly refined bars, or doré, before final refining. Kinross sells refined gold to banks and refiners, while AngloGold Ashanti sells directly to bullion banks, making Kinross’s gold revenue a comparison for the same end market.
Harmony and AngloGold Ashanti earn their principal mining revenue from gold sales, so the prices they receive affect both businesses. Harmony attributed its fiscal 2025 gold-revenue increase mainly to a 31.1% rise in its average received dollar gold price—a concrete comparison for gold prices feeding into AngloGold Ashanti’s cash flow.
IAMGOLD and AngloGold Ashanti both mine gold and face African mining conditions, although their operating portfolios differ. IAMGOLD’s Essakane mine in Burkina Faso is the operation to watch for that African exposure, rather than its Canadian mines.
B2Gold and AngloGold Ashanti both produce gold for bullion buyers and have substantial African mining operations, linking them through gold prices and African mining costs. B2Gold’s Fekola mine in Mali and Otjikoto mine in Namibia are the operations to watch for that regional comparison; it sells gold to bullion dealers and refiners at market prices.
Alamos and AngloGold Ashanti both extract gold from operating mines, so the same gold market shapes their mining margins. Alamos’s production from Island Gold, Young-Davidson and Mulatos provides a comparison for gold-mining output, rather than a direct link to AngloGold Ashanti’s mines.
Equinox and AngloGold Ashanti reach the same international bullion market by producing partly refined gold bars, or doré, for final refining. Equinox’s buyers include bullion banks, traders and refiners, while AngloGold Ashanti sells refined gold directly to bullion banks; watch Equinox’s gold sales for a comparison of that shared market.
Franco-Nevada has a direct claim on AngloGold Ashanti’s Arthur Gold Project: it holds a right to 1% of sales proceeds after specified deductions, called a net smelter return royalty. It earns precious-metal royalties and metal deliveries under contracts rather than operating mines, making Arthur Gold’s development the specific link to watch.
Allied and AngloGold Ashanti both operate African gold mines, but Allied also owes AngloGold Ashanti payments tied to production from the Sadiola sale. Watch the Sadiola Sulphides Project’s first and next 250,000 ounces: each milestone triggers a $24.9 million payment split equally between AngloGold Ashanti and IAMGOLD.
Pan American and AngloGold Ashanti share gold-price and regional mining exposure in Argentina and Brazil. Pan American sells both gold and silver, so its gold business is the closer comparison for AngloGold Ashanti than its silver business.
Fortuna and AngloGold Ashanti both operate gold mines in Africa and Argentina, linking their results through gold prices and regional mining conditions. Fortuna’s gold output at Séguéla in Côte d’Ivoire and Lindero in Argentina is the closer comparison, rather than its silver, lead and zinc production at Caylloma.
Royal Gold shares AngloGold Ashanti’s gold-price exposure without operating mines itself. It earns rights to buy precious metals under contracts and to receive a share of mine production or revenue—streams and royalties—while AngloGold Ashanti earns money by mining and selling gold.
Wheaton and AngloGold Ashanti both sell gold, but source it differently: Wheaton buys gold and other precious metals through long-term purchase contracts, known as streams, while AngloGold Ashanti mines its own gold. Their shared exposure is to gold prices, not the same method of producing metal.
DRDGOLD and AngloGold Ashanti both sell refined gold to bullion banks, so gold prices connect their revenue despite different production methods. DRDGOLD recovers gold from South African mine waste, or tailings, rather than mining fresh ore; its sales to South African bullion banks are the relevant market comparison.
Aris offers a Colombian gold-mining comparison for AngloGold Ashanti’s development projects there, while AngloGold Ashanti’s gold production comes from other countries. Aris sells partly refined gold bars, or doré, to refiners; watch its Segovia expansion and Marmato construction for a local mine-development comparison.
Centerra shares AngloGold Ashanti’s gold-production economics through its Öksüt gold mine and Mount Milligan gold-copper mine. Those mines are the closer comparison: Centerra also buys and upgrades molybdenum concentrates for metallurgical and chemical customers, a separate business from AngloGold Ashanti’s main gold revenue.
OR Royalties receives a share of gold-mine proceeds rather than earning revenue by mining and selling gold as AngloGold Ashanti does, but both depend on gold prices and mine production. Its cornerstone is the Canadian Malartic Complex royalty, making that complex’s gold output the specific production signal to watch.
Triple Flag shares AngloGold Ashanti’s gold-price exposure without the same direct mining-cost exposure. It earns gold and other precious metals through contracted purchase rights and shares of mine proceeds—streams and royalties—rather than mining the metal itself.
EIA Crude Oil Stocks Change (Oct/16)
AngloGold Ashanti’s mines use fuel, so the EIA’s weekly count of crude oil and gasoline held in US inventories can signal shifts in oil-product prices and the fuel costs that affect its mining margins.
Larger crude and gasoline inventories can signal looser supply and lower oil-product prices, easing fuel costs at AngloGold Ashanti’s mines; smaller inventories can signal tighter supply and higher costs that squeeze margins.
Newmont Corporation earningsNEM
Newmont mines gold in some of the same regions as AngloGold Ashanti, so its report can show whether energy, labor and equipment costs are squeezing miners' margins.
Read Newmont's all-in sustaining cost per ounce alongside its output. If output holds but unit costs rise, miners drawing on the same energy, labor and equipment markets face more pressure, putting AngloGold Ashanti's costs in focus; contained costs suggest less pressure, but do not prove the two companies have identical costs.
Agnico Eagle Mines Ltd. earningsAEM
Agnico Eagle is also directly exposed to spot gold prices, and its report can show how price changes flow into gold sales, a comparison for AngloGold Ashanti's gold-price exposure.
Read Agnico Eagle's realized gold price alongside ounces sold. A higher price with sales holding shows how market prices can lift revenue for a producer that does not systematically hedge, helping frame AngloGold Ashanti's price exposure; a lower price weakens that revenue support. Agnico Eagle's own production changes do not establish a change in AngloGold Ashanti's output.
Fed Interest Rate Decision
AngloGold Ashanti sells refined gold to bullion banks, so the Fed’s policy rate—which influences borrowing costs across the economy—can move gold prices and the revenue and operating cash its gold sales generate.
Expected4.0%Last release4.0%
If it comes in above expectations
If the Fed rate is higher than expected, borrowing costs rise and may weigh on gold prices; lower prices could reduce the revenue AngloGold Ashanti earns from bullion-bank sales and the cash generated by its operations.
If it comes in below expectations
If the Fed rate is lower than expected, borrowing costs ease and may support gold prices; higher prices could increase the revenue AngloGold Ashanti earns from bullion-bank sales and the cash generated by its operations.
Allied Gold Corporation earningsAAUC
When Allied Gold's Sadiola Sulphides Project reaches a specified production milestone, AngloGold Ashanti is due a share of a payment, and Allied Gold's report can show whether that link has advanced.
Check whether Allied Gold reports that the Sadiola Sulphides Project has reached its first or next 250,000-ounce production milestone. Each milestone triggers a $24.9 million payment split equally between AngloGold Ashanti and IAMGOLD; reaching one means AngloGold Ashanti is due half, while a milestone not yet reached has not triggered that payment.
AngloGold Ashanti plc earningsThis company
AngloGold Ashanti earns money by mining and selling gold, and its report will show how ounces sold, the price received and the cost of sustaining its mines combine to shape profit.
Read ounces sold and the average price received alongside all-in sustaining cost, the per-ounce measure of the cost of maintaining production. More ounces or a higher price with costs contained would support gold income and mine margins; weaker sales or prices with rising costs would squeeze income and margins.
Barrick Mining Corporation earningsB
Barrick operates Kibali, in which it and AngloGold Ashanti each own 45%, so its report can show how the mine's output affects AngloGold Ashanti's attributable production.
Watch Barrick's reported Kibali production. Higher output adds to AngloGold Ashanti's attributable share of the joint venture's production; lower output reduces that contribution. Kibali's results describe the mine Barrick operates, not AngloGold Ashanti's other mines.
Franco-Nevada Corporation earningsFNV
Franco-Nevada holds a net smelter return royalty on AngloGold Ashanti's Arthur Gold Project, so its report can help readers track whether project progress is bringing related sales proceeds closer.
Watch Franco-Nevada's disclosures on the Arthur Gold Project and whether it is moving toward sales. Its royalty is 1% of sales proceeds after specified deductions; progress toward sales brings that claim closer to generating proceeds, while stalled development leaves no related sales proceeds to share for now.
