Company overview

Centerra Gold Inc.’s main producing mines are Mount Milligan in British Columbia, Canada, and Öksüt in Türkiye. Together, they supply most of its revenue. Mount Milligan sells concentrate containing copper and gold to smelters and other buyers under multi-year agreements. Buyers pay for the metal content, less processing charges and other deductions. Öksüt produces unrefined gold bars that are refined in Türkiye and sold to the Turkish central bank at market-based prices. Turkish law gives the bank first refusal; if it declines, the gold is sold through the refinery on Borsa Istanbul.

Mount Milligan relies on a few key customers. Its arrangement with Royal Gold also limits how much it receives from part of its production: Centerra buys gold and copper in the market to deliver to Royal Gold, which pays a fixed gold price and a discounted copper price under the existing contract. Earnings depend on gold, copper and molybdenum prices, while continued operation at Mount Milligan requires permits for further tailings-dam raises.

A separate business, the Langeloth facility in Pennsylvania, buys molybdenum concentrates from other producers, processes them into upgraded products and sells mainly to North American steel and chemical markets. This provides a substantial additional revenue source without relying on Centerra’s own molybdenum mines. Langeloth suspended operations after an explosion in January 2026 and remained shut as of March 2026 while repairs and restart planning proceeded.

CGAU says it has a moat. Does it hold up?

Every company claims an edge. Each one is checked against hard numbers like margins and returns: which hold, and which line gives way first.

  • Royal Gold buys metals tied to Centerra’s Mount Milligan sales at agreed prices, so mine output and gold and copper prices affect both—but Centerra’s cost of buying metals for delivery reduces its revenue. Centerra supplied 21.7% of Royal Gold’s 2025 revenue, making its Mount Milligan receipts worth watching.

  • Eldorado Gold shares Centerra’s exposure to gold prices and mining conditions in Türkiye; both also operate gold-producing mines in Canada. Eldorado’s Kışladağ gold is refined locally and sold at spot prices on Borsa Istanbul, making those sales a comparison for Centerra’s Öksüt business.

  • Equinox Gold sells mined gold to bullion banks, traders and refiners, sharing Centerra’s gold-price exposure, but it also owes Centerra payments tied to Greenstone production under the stake-sale agreement. Watch Greenstone’s production thresholds: Centerra expected the second payment in 2026 and the third in 2027, with the related gold owed onward to Royal Gold.

  • Barrick Mining and Centerra both earn money mining gold and copper for global metals buyers, so the same metal prices affect their results. Barrick’s gold and copper earnings provide a comparison for Centerra’s Mount Milligan business, rather than its separate molybdenum operations.

  • Alamos Gold and Centerra both produce gold in Canada for global metals markets, sharing gold-price exposure and Canadian mining-cost pressures. Alamos’s Island Gold and Young-Davidson production offers a Canadian comparison for Centerra’s gold output at Mount Milligan.

  • IAMGold Corporation shares Centerra’s exposure to gold prices and Canadian mine costs, with both producing gold and developing further properties. Its Côté Gold and Westwood operations are the relevant comparison for Centerra’s Canadian production; Nelligan remains an exploration project.

  • Kinross Gold and Centerra both sell mined gold into the world bullion market, so gold prices affect both businesses. Kinross sends its unrefined gold-silver bars to refineries and sells the refined gold to banks and refiners, making its gold sales a comparison for Centerra’s Öksüt revenue.

  • Newmont and Centerra both produce gold and copper, so metal prices and mining-input costs affect both companies’ earnings. Watch Newmont’s energy, labor and equipment costs as a comparison for the mining and processing costs at Centerra’s Mount Milligan.

  • Agnico Eagle and Centerra both produce gold in Canada and earn revenue linked to market gold prices. Agnico Eagle traditionally sells all production at spot prices rather than selling future output forward, making its gold revenue a clear comparison for Centerra’s gold-price exposure.

  • The Gibraltar copper and molybdenum business supplied for Trekor Metals Limited overlaps Centerra’s Mount Milligan copper output and molybdenum operations, making those metal prices the shared exposure. The supplied filings name the operator as Taseko, so check that identity before using Gibraltar’s production as a comparison.

  • AngloGold Ashanti and Centerra both mine gold, send unrefined bars for refining and sell into bullion markets, sharing gold-price exposure. AngloGold sells refined gold directly to bullion banks, whereas Centerra’s Öksüt sales go through Türkiye’s market subject to the central bank’s first right to buy.

  • Coeur Mining and Centerra both earn money selling mined gold through refiners, bullion buyers and smelters, sharing gold-price exposure. Coeur’s long-term sales of Kensington gold concentrate to smelters offer a closer comparison for Centerra’s Mount Milligan concentrate business than its bullion sales do.

  • Pan American Silver shares Centerra’s gold-price exposure through its gold-producing properties, but silver is also a principal product. Read its gold business separately from silver when comparing results with Centerra’s gold and copper operations.

  • McEwen and Centerra both produce gold in North America and develop further gold and copper properties, sharing gold-price and regional mining-cost exposure. McEwen sends unrefined gold-silver bars to refiners and concentrates to smelters; its copper development projects should be distinguished from current gold production.

  • Triple Flag’s agreement to buy all payable silver from Centerra’s proposed Kemess mine depends on conditions including Centerra publicly deciding to build it. Watch that decision: it had not been announced, and the staged US$45 million deposit remained conditional, with ongoing silver purchases priced at 10% of the five-day average market price.

    Industrial Production MoM (Oct)

Industrial production tracks output from factories, mines and utilities; stronger output may support steel and chemical customers’ demand for Centerra’s Langeloth molybdenum products, while weaker output may reduce sales.
