Company

Company overview

PENN Entertainment’s core business is regional casinos across the United States. Customers wager on slot machines and table games, and PENN earns gaming revenue from wagers less winnings paid out. Guests also pay for meals and hotel stays, but gaming supplies most revenue and the physical properties remain the largest part of the business.

PENN also takes bets online through theScore Bet in selected U.S. jurisdictions and Ontario. It offers online casino games through Hollywood Casino in selected U.S. jurisdictions and theScore Casino in Ontario. Its theScore sports media app helps bring users into betting, while PENN Play links its retail and digital customer relationships. PENN has shifted its digital focus toward U.S. online casinos and Canadian operations, using sports betting to attract customers and encourage them to use its other offerings.

The business depends heavily on local customers’ discretionary spending and visits. Most operating real estate is leased, with GLPI the most significant landlord; PENN pays rent as well as maintenance, insurance and property taxes. Gaming licenses determine where and what it may offer, and some online operations also depend on third-party market-access agreements.
