Company

Company overview

Century Casinos’ business centers on casino properties in the United States and Canada, including Nugget Casino Resort, and an ownership interest in Casinos Poland. Customers wager on gaming machines and table games; the money retained after winnings supplies most of its revenue. Guests also pay for rooms, meals and entertainment, while horse racing and other betting activities provide additional income.

Revenue depends on how often customers visit and how much they choose to spend. The company must maintain gaming licenses wherever it operates. In Poland, casino licenses expire and operators must compete for new ones rather than renew them; Casinos Poland has not always secured replacements. Poland also generally prohibits advertising gaming outside casinos.

Century Casinos leases most of its North American casino real estate from VICI PropCo. Rent and debt payments absorb a substantial part of operating cash flow, and these obligations generally continue even when properties close.

Watch VICI PropCo, which owns most of Century Casinos’ operating-property real estate: its leases create a fixed-cost dependency alongside Century’s reliance on regional gambling spending and gaming licenses.

  • Monarch Casino & Resort Inc competes directly for Century Casinos’ gamblers: Atlantis rivals Nugget in Reno-Sparks, while Monarch Black Hawk vies with Century’s Central City casino for Denver-area customers. Watch gaming revenue at those Monarch resorts, where hotels and dining also help attract casino spending.

  • Full House Resorts, Inc.’s Chamonix and Bronco Billy’s compete with Century Casinos’ Cripple Creek casino for local and visiting gamblers. Watch their casino and hospitality offerings and promotions—the tools Full House uses to win customers’ spending.

  • Caesars Entertainment competes with Century Casinos for casino customers’ spending in regional U.S. markets, including Reno and Missouri.

  • PENN Entertainment’s regional casinos compete with Century Casinos for gamblers’ spending in markets including Missouri and the West Virginia region.

  • Boyd Gaming competes with Century Casinos for regional casino customers’ gambling spending, including in Missouri. Its brick-and-mortar casino gaming revenue is the relevant line to watch for this rivalry, rather than its online platform licensing business.

  • Bally's Corporation’s regional casinos compete with Century Casinos for gambling customers’ spending in markets including Missouri and the Reno area.

  • MGM Resorts International’s regional casinos and Century Casinos’ U.S. casinos both depend heavily on customers’ slot and table-game spending, exposing them to the same regional gambling demand. Watch MGM’s Regional Operations gaming revenue, not its Las Vegas Strip resorts, where non-gaming operations typically provide more than half of net revenue.

    Fed Interest Rate Decision

For Century Casinos, the Fed’s decision on the economy-wide cost of borrowing matters because most of its $337.7 million in debt has variable rates: higher borrowing costs can raise interest payments and leave less cash for casino operations and investment.
