Company overview

Cognizant Technology Solutions helps companies replace aging technology, connect software systems and improve how work gets done, including through AI. Consulting and technology projects generate most of its revenue; it also earns fees from maintaining applications, managing IT infrastructure and handling outsourced business processes. Clients pay mainly agreed project prices or fees based on staff time and resources used, with some contracts charging by transaction or work volume.

Healthcare, life sciences and financial services clients together provide most of its revenue, and the business relies heavily on customers in the United States and Europe. Delivery teams work at client sites and in global service centers, with most operations and technical personnel based in India.

The business depends on clients continuing to fund work and on having skilled employees available to deliver it. Many contracts allow clients to stop work on short notice without substantial termination charges. Work-permit restrictions can limit staff deployment, while AI rules, including the EU AI Act, can require Cognizant to change or limit what it offers in particular markets.
