Huron Consulting Group helps hospitals, health systems, universities and other organizations address financial, operational and technology needs. Healthcare is its largest business, followed by education; together they supply most revenue. Clients pay Huron to improve processes, implement systems and take over ongoing work, such as hospital billing and collections or university research administration. It also provides consulting and technology services to businesses and public-sector organizations.
Most revenue comes from professionals delivering client work. Clients pay for time worked or an agreed scope of services, sometimes with additional fees tied to savings or other outcomes. Huron combines this work with technology implementation, analytics and managed services. It also earns software subscription and support fees, including from Huron Research Suite, which supports research administration and compliance.
The business depends on winning repeat engagements, retaining skilled professionals and keeping them productively assigned at sustainable billing rates. Clients generally hire Huron project by project, and many contracts can end with little notice. Healthcare and education funding and regulation influence clients’ purchasing decisions. Huron must comply with privacy rules when handling sensitive data, and conflict-of-interest requirements in bankruptcy and other adversarial work can limit which clients or assignments it accepts.
The risk section is the longest, dullest part of the filing. This keeps only what can really hurt you: where it hits, how hard, when it plays out.
Every company claims an edge. Each one is checked against hard numbers like margins and returns: which hold, and which line gives way first.
Cognizant competes with Huron for healthcare and financial-services clients’ spending on connecting computer systems, modernizing technology and running business processes. Its Health Sciences and Financial Services results are worth watching for demand in those shared client groups.
Accenture competes with Huron for healthcare and commercial clients that pay for consulting, upgrades to enterprise technology and outside teams to run ongoing operations.
The Hackett Group and Huron compete for finance and operations leaders’ spending on installing enterprise applications and improving business performance. Watch Hackett’s Oracle Solutions work in financial close, planning and reporting for demand in services that overlap with Huron’s digital practice.
FTI Consulting competes with Huron for clients paying for financial advice, operational change and help with special situations. Its Corporate Finance work helping companies and lenders stabilize finances and operations is the part most relevant to Huron’s financial and capital advisory services.
ExlService Holdings, Inc. competes with Huron for healthcare and financial-services clients that pay for data analysis, AI-enabled changes to their workflows and outside teams to run business operations.
Genpact competes with Huron for financial-services and other enterprise clients’ spending on redesigning processes, managing data and outsourcing business operations.
CGI competes with Huron for clients paying to install enterprise systems, get digital consulting and hand over business or technology operations. CGI’s managed-services work, where it takes full or partial responsibility for clients’ IT functions, is worth watching alongside Huron’s technology managed services.
Healthcare and higher-education spending on Workday cloud applications also matters to Huron: Workday sells the software, while Huron’s partner practice earns fees helping clients deploy and improve it.
Oracle’s enterprise and healthcare system sales generate implementation and optimization work for Huron’s Oracle-partner digital practice: clients buy the systems from Oracle and pay Huron to help put them to use and improve them.
DXC Technology competes with Huron for healthcare, financial-services and public-sector clients’ spending on modernizing enterprise applications, consulting and data analysis. Its Consulting & Engineering Services results are the relevant comparison, rather than its infrastructure or insurance software businesses.
Information Services Group competes with Huron for enterprise clients paying for advice on technology changes, how to run operations, analytics and organizational change. Its ISG Enterprise work across IT, finance and human resources is worth watching for demand in that shared advisory market.
ExlService Holdings, Inc. earningsEXLS
ExlService Holdings, Inc.'s report will show whether healthcare and financial-services clients are still paying for data analysis, AI-enabled workflow changes and outsourced operations—the same work for which it competes with Huron.
Look for demand from ExlService's healthcare and financial-services clients alongside growth in its data and operations work. If both strengthen, shared clients are still funding these projects, giving Huron more work to pursue in healthcare digital and managed services and commercial accounts—but with tougher competition. If they weaken, competition may ease, but clients are offering fewer projects for both firms to win.
Fed Interest Rate Decision
The Fed’s decision on the economy’s benchmark interest rate matters to Huron because its $511 million of borrowings carry variable rates, so changes in rates can change what Huron pays to borrow and leave for earnings and cash flow.

If it comes in above expectations
Higher rates would generally raise the interest Huron pays on variable-rate debt, leaving less cash flow after borrowing costs and potentially pressuring earnings.
If it comes in below expectations
Lower rates would generally ease the interest burden on Huron’s variable-rate debt, leaving more cash flow after borrowing costs and potentially supporting earnings.
Huron Consulting Group Inc. earningsThis company
Huron's report will show whether demand from healthcare, education and commercial clients can grow revenue without eroding margins.
Compare growth in revenue before reimbursable expenses—revenue excluding client costs Huron bills back at cost—across Healthcare, Education and Commercial with operating margin on that same revenue base. Growth across several segments with a steady or rising margin would show that client work and software services are generating enough fees to cover delivery costs. If growth is concentrated in a few segments or comes mainly from acquisitions while margin falls, demand is uneven or costs are outrunning fees, limiting the quality of growth.
Workday, Inc. earningsWDAY
Workday's report will show demand for its cloud applications among healthcare and higher-education organizations: clients buy the software from Workday and pay Huron to help deploy and improve it.
Watch Workday's subscription revenue and customer-demand commentary. Stronger cloud-application demand would mean more healthcare and higher-education organizations are buying its software, expanding the pool of deployment and improvement projects Huron can pursue. Weaker demand could mean fewer new deployments, but would not by itself show that existing clients are cutting spending on improvements.
