Company

Company overview

Large organizations pay The Hackett Group to assess how their operations perform, redesign business processes and put supporting software into use. Its broader consulting and business transformation business supplies most revenue; Oracle and SAP implementation and support provide the other major streams. Clients pay for project work, and its SAP business also sells software.

The company uses its own performance benchmarks and best-practice research to guide this work and support its generative AI platforms. AI XPLR helps clients identify potential AI uses and design workflows, either through consultant-led engagements or a platform license with on-demand support. Hackett also uses AI platforms in consulting and software implementation, and is working toward a business model that earns more recurring platform and licensing revenue rather than relying mainly on consultants’ time.

Revenue depends on winning and delivering large client projects and having skilled teams available to do the work. A limited group of clients supplies a significant share of revenue, and engagements are generally short term and can usually be reduced or cancelled on short notice. Privacy laws, including restrictions on where client data may be stored or transferred, and evolving AI rules constrain how it handles data and delivers AI services.

Watch OneStream implementation demand: its weakness offset growth in Hackett’s generative AI consulting business in 2025.

  • Accenture competes with Hackett for enterprise spending on strategy, business transformation and software implementation, with both using proprietary tools and AI to deliver the work. Accenture’s consulting demand is the closer comparison; its managed services also cover running client operations.

  • Information Services Group competes with Hackett for large enterprises’ advisory and transformation budgets, with both using performance comparisons to guide improvements in technology, finance and other core operations. Its work for Global 2000 businesses is the closest customer overlap with Hackett.

  • Huron competes with Hackett for client spending on management consulting, digital transformation and AI-enabled improvements, but its heavier healthcare and education focus limits the comparison. Those two segments accounted for 50% and 30%, respectively, of Huron’s 2025 revenue before reimbursable expenses, making its Commercial business the closer comparison.

  • Cognizant competes with Hackett for enterprise contracts to advise clients, connect software systems, maintain applications and transform operations using AI. Its application modernization work is the clearest overlap with Hackett’s software implementation and support services.

  • Genpact competes with Hackett for enterprise spending on redesigning and improving business operations, with both combining process expertise, performance benchmarks and AI. Genpact’s emphasis on carrying improvements through into day-to-day operations distinguishes its approach from Hackett’s advisory and implementation work.

  • SAP supplies the business software that Hackett sells and installs for clients, so customers moving to S/4HANA Cloud directly support Hackett’s SAP Solutions revenue. Watch migration demand, particularly in life sciences and consumer goods: related software sales and implementation work were the main reason that revenue rose in 2025.

  • Oracle sells the enterprise applications that clients pay Hackett to select, implement and support, tying Hackett’s Oracle Solutions business to adoption of those applications. Watch demand for the Oracle Cloud Enterprise Suite, including financial close and business planning, as Hackett has shifted beyond mainly installing on-premise financial-management software.

  • CGI competes with Hackett for client spending on business consulting, connecting software systems and modernizing applications. CGI also takes full or partial responsibility for running clients’ IT functions through managed services, so its consulting and implementation work is the closer comparison to Hackett.

  • DXC competes with Hackett for large businesses’ spending on enterprise applications, consulting and process modernization. Its Consulting & Engineering Services business, which helps clients automate work and improve operations, is the relevant comparison rather than its infrastructure or insurance software businesses.

  • ExlService Holdings competes with Hackett for client spending on using AI to transform workflows and business processes, but puts more emphasis on running client operations. Watch its work embedding AI into those operations, which EXL describes as a foundation for further client transformation projects.
