GameStop serves gamers and collectors who buy consoles, accessories, games and collectibles. Hardware and accessories account for most sales, followed by collectibles and then game software; the United States supplies most revenue. Customers can trade in used products for cash or store credit. GameStop refurbishes used gaming products and resells them, giving customers a way to fund purchases while supplying its stores with secondhand merchandise. It also buys graded trading cards and offers card authentication and grading submission services.
The retail business depends on manufacturers and publishers supplying desirable new products. Nintendo, Sony and Pokémon together supply most of GameStop’s new-product purchases—not most of its sales. Trading cards, including Pokémon cards, are a significant part of collectibles revenue, making demand and product allocations important. Holiday shopping remains a major sales period, while consumers’ shift toward downloading games reduces demand for physical game software.
Beyond retail, GameStop earns interest on its cash and short-term investments and maintains exposure to Bitcoin. Bitcoin itself pays no interest; cash from that exposure requires sales or other strategies. The company plans to use its liquidity for acquisitions and transactions that give it control of other businesses. It monitors its investments to remain outside the Investment Company Act: being classified as an investment company could restrict its investing and securities issuance and require substantial operational changes.
The risk section is the longest, dullest part of the filing. This keeps only what can really hurt you: where it hits, how hard, when it plays out.
Every company claims an edge. Each one is checked against hard numbers like margins and returns: which hold, and which line gives way first.
Watch Nintendo and Pokémon as well as Sony: together they supplied a majority of GameStop’s new-product purchases in fiscal 2025.
Sony supplies the PlayStation products GameStop sells to players, but also competes for those players by selling games and content directly. Watch Sony’s digital game and add-on content revenue for the part of its gaming business that competes with GameStop’s retail offering.
Best Buy competes with GameStop for shoppers buying consoles, games and accessories in stores and online. Its shelf space and online visibility for gaming accessories are worth watching because both influence where shoppers buy.
Funko supplies pop-culture collectibles that GameStop sells to shoppers, linking demand for its figures and other products to GameStop’s growing collectibles business. That demand matters to GameStop’s profitability: a shift toward higher-margin collectibles helped lift its gross margin in fiscal 2025.
Turtle Beach supplies headsets, controllers and other gaming accessories that GameStop sells to players. Watch demand for those products against GameStop’s hardware and accessories sales, which fell 12.3% in fiscal 2025 but still accounted for 50.7% of sales.
Take-Two’s major console-game releases can support demand for the games and consoles GameStop sells to players; Take-Two publishes games sold through physical retailers as well as digital channels. Watch its console-release schedule, since new-product timing can shift GameStop’s quarterly sales.
Microsoft supplies Xbox consoles and games that GameStop sells to players, while its direct gaming offerings compete for the same spending. Watch new Xbox platform launches: GameStop says new platforms generally lift sales of related games and accessories as players move away from older systems.
Amazon competes with GameStop for online gaming-product and collectible purchases in the U.S., Europe and Australia, selling both its own inventory and third-party sellers’ goods. Watch its retail pricing, selection and delivery offering—the concrete ways it competes for those shoppers.
Walmart competes with GameStop for gaming-product and collectible buyers through its broad store and online network. Its policy of keeping prices low without frequent promotions is a pricing benchmark to watch for those overlapping products.
GameStop retains substantial Bitcoin price exposure, while Coinbase Global collects fees from customers trading crypto, so crypto-market conditions matter to both beyond their covered-call agreement. Watch Coinbase’s consumer trading-fee revenue for trading activity, but distinguish it from GameStop’s exposure to the value of Bitcoin.
Microsoft Corp earningsMSFT
Microsoft’s report will show what is happening with Xbox, whose consoles, games and accessories it supplies to GameStop and whose gaming offerings also compete for players’ spending.
Watch Microsoft’s comments on Xbox and the timing of new platform launches alongside its gaming-business results. Strong launch activity and player demand could give GameStop more consoles, games and accessories to sell; delays or weak demand would limit that lift. Microsoft also sells games and content directly, so platform demand does not all become a retail opportunity for GameStop.
Amazon.Com Inc earningsAMZN
Amazon’s report will show how its online retail offer competes with GameStop for gaming-product and collectible shoppers in the U.S., Europe and Australia.
Read Amazon’s retail results alongside what it says about pricing, selection and delivery for gaming products and collectibles. A strong offer gives Amazon more ways to win convenience- and price-conscious shoppers, putting pressure on GameStop’s online sales and pricing room; a weaker offer may ease that pressure. Broad Amazon retail results do not prove demand for these specific products, so the conclusion is about the competitive offer, not a direct measure of GameStop sales.
Funko, Inc. earningsFNKO
Funko, Inc.’s report will offer a demand signal for pop-culture collectibles that GameStop also sells and that helped lift its gross margin.
Read Funko, Inc.’s sales alongside inventory changes. Stronger sales without inventory buildup would support the case that demand for related collectibles remains healthy, giving GameStop’s collectible sales and margin mix a firmer footing; weaker sales and rising inventory pressure would raise the risk of cooling demand and markdowns. Funko’s results are a signal for the category, not a measure of GameStop’s own sales.
Sony Group Corporation earningsSONY
Sony’s report will show how much players spend on digital games and add-on content, spending that can bypass GameStop’s physical-game retail business.
Track Sony’s digital game and add-on content revenue against GameStop’s business of selling new and pre-owned physical games. If that digital revenue strengthens, more player spending is flowing through Sony’s digital channels and the structural pressure on GameStop’s physical software sales is clearer; if it weakens, the signal for that pressure is softer, but it does not show that players have returned to physical games.
Turtle Beach Corporation earningsTBCH
Turtle Beach Corporation’s report will signal demand for headsets, controllers and other accessories, a useful niche check on GameStop’s hardware-and-accessories sales.
Set Turtle Beach Corporation’s accessory sales alongside GameStop’s 12.3% fiscal 2025 decline in hardware and accessories. Strong Turtle Beach sales would show that demand remains in at least part of the gaming-accessory market, giving GameStop a potential sales opportunity; weaker sales would mean this niche is less likely to offset pressure on its category. Turtle Beach’s results cannot show how much of that demand GameStop captured; they tell readers whether the accessory-demand signal is stronger or weaker.
Take-Two Interactive Software Inc earningsTTWO
Take-Two’s report will show the timing and performance of console-game releases, indicating how its titles may draw demand toward the games and consoles GameStop sells.
Watch the timing and sales of Take-Two’s console games, while keeping in mind that it also sells through digital channels. Popular releases on schedule with strong sales can bring players toward the games and consoles GameStop sells; delays or weak sales mean less lift for its retail business. Even a successful title offers less to GameStop if more of its sales go through digital channels.
GameStop Corp. earningsThis company
GameStop’s report will show whether collectibles can keep offsetting weaker hardware and software sales and support retail profit.
Read sales across the three product categories alongside gross margin and operating income: in fiscal 2025, collectibles sales rose 47.7%, hardware and accessories fell 12.3%, software fell 27.5%, and gross margin increased from 29.1% to 33.0%. If collectibles keep growing and margin and operating income hold up, the retail profit base is broadening; if collectibles weaken while hardware and software keep falling, profit depends more heavily on one trend-sensitive category. Net income can also move with interest income and digital-asset losses, so it does not settle how the retail business did.
