Company

Company overview

Best Buy helps customers choose, buy and use technology products in the U.S. and Canada, with the U.S. accounting for most of its revenue. Computers and mobile phones form its largest sales category, followed by other consumer electronics. Customers can shop online or in stores, and choose delivery or pickup.

Beyond selling products, Best Buy charges for installation, repairs, technical support and memberships such as My Best Buy Plus and My Best Buy Total. It also earns commissions from mobile carriers on related phone sales. These activities supplement a business funded mainly by merchandise purchases.

Best Buy relies heavily on Apple, Samsung, HP, LG and Sony for its merchandise, and generally has no long-term vendor contracts guaranteeing continued supply. Its earnings depend on obtaining products on workable commercial terms and selling them at competitive prices. Holiday shopping accounts for a large share of revenue and earnings.

Alongside Apple and Sony, watch Samsung, HP and LG: Best Buy also relies heavily on them for merchandise supply, product innovation and commercial terms.

  • Amazon competes for Best Buy’s online electronics customers by selling overlapping products at low prices with fast delivery. Watch its electronics pricing and delivery offers against Best Buy’s price matching and store-based service.

  • Best Buy relies on Apple for computers and mobile products to resell, but Apple also sells directly to the same customers. Watch Apple’s product allocations and direct-sales push: computing and mobile phones made up 47% of Best Buy’s Domestic revenue in fiscal 2026.

  • Newegg competes with Best Buy for computer and consumer-electronics shoppers through online stores and marketplaces where third-party sellers offer products. Its sales to consumers are the relevant line to watch, rather than its sales to businesses.

  • Walmart competes for Best Buy’s consumer-electronics and gaming customers in stores and online. Its everyday-low-price approach makes electronics and gaming prices worth watching when assessing Best Buy’s price competitiveness.

  • Target competes with Best Buy for gaming and consumer-electronics purchases through stores and digital channels. Watch its product assortment and value offers in those categories, not just total sales across its broad merchandise range.

  • Costco competes for Best Buy’s television, computer and appliance customers with low-priced warehouse and online offerings.

  • Best Buy depends on Sony, a major supplier, for PlayStation and audiovisual products it sells to shoppers. Watch Sony’s console and audiovisual product supply; its gaming revenue also includes digital content and network services, which are not the same as Best Buy’s merchandise sales.

  • GameStop competes with Best Buy for shoppers buying consoles, games and accessories in stores and online. Watch those product sales rather than collectibles when judging competition with Best Buy’s gaming business.

  • Sonos, Inc. supplies home audio and home-theater products for Best Buy to resell, and Best Buy accounted for 14% of Sonos revenue in fiscal 2025. Watch Sonos’s retail inventory and promotion news for clues about Best Buy’s home-theater business; partners have no long-term purchase-volume commitments.

  • NETGEAR supplies home networking products that Best Buy sells within its computing and mobile assortment, and counts Best Buy among its largest retailers. Watch its Consumer business’s WiFi and home-connectivity sales rather than its enterprise-networking results.

  • Roku supplies TVs and streaming devices that Best Buy resells in consumer electronics. Its Devices revenue is the line to watch for this tie, rather than streaming hours, though it covers sales through other retailers too.

  • SharkNinja supplies Shark and Ninja small household appliances for Best Buy to sell, linking its launches and product demand to Best Buy’s appliance sales. Watch small-appliance demand separately from large appliances, which drove Best Buy’s fiscal 2026 Domestic appliance sales decline.
