Coinbase Global helps individuals and institutions buy, sell and hold crypto assets. Transaction fees provide most of its revenue, chiefly from consumer trading. Consumers pay fees based on trade size and, on some trades, a spread built into the quoted price; Simple trading generally costs more than Advanced. Institutions pay to execute trades through Coinbase Prime and its exchanges, including Deribit. Consumer trading now also includes stocks, futures and prediction markets, but the business remains heavily tied to crypto trading activity, particularly Bitcoin and Ethereum. Most revenue comes from the United States.
A substantial second source of income comes from USDC, the dollar-redeemable stablecoin issued by Circle. Circle pays Coinbase a share of the economics of the reserves backing USDC in return for helping grow its use. This income depends on Circle, USDC balances both on and off Coinbase, and interest rates. Coinbase also takes a commission when customers earn crypto-network rewards through its staking service.
Regulation limits what Coinbase can offer. Its spot-crypto platforms are not registered as securities exchanges or broker-dealers, so Coinbase offers only assets and services it believes have strong grounds not to be securities; regulators or courts may disagree. Some U.S. states also restrict customers from committing new funds to staking while legal disputes remain unresolved.
The risk section is the longest, dullest part of the filing. This keeps only what can really hurt you: where it hits, how hard, when it plays out.
Every company claims an edge. Each one is checked against hard numbers like margins and returns: which hold, and which line gives way first.
Coinbase’s results hinge on crypto trading activity and USDC reserve income, while Binance and Kraken remain important exchange rivals missing from this list.
Coinbase receives a share of the income on reserves backing USDC from its issuer, Circle Internet Group, making USDC growth important to both companies. Watch Circle’s USDC circulation and reserve income: Coinbase earns from balances both on and off its platform, while lower interest rates can offset balance growth.
Robinhood competes with Coinbase for U.S. consumers who trade crypto and commit assets to earn network rewards through staking. Its choice of commission-free orders sent to market makers or paid routing through exchanges is worth watching against Coinbase’s consumer trading fees.
Gemini Space Station, Inc. competes with Coinbase for U.S. retail and institutional customers paying for crypto trading, asset safekeeping and staking services. Gemini’s February 2026 plan to wind down operations in Europe and Australia and focus more resources on the United States makes its U.S. customer business worth watching.
Bullish competes for the institutions paying Coinbase to trade crypto directly in spot markets or through contracts such as futures and options. Watch Bullish’s institutional trading offering, particularly its liquidity and fees, rather than its separate data, media and events business.
BitGo Holdings, Inc. competes with Coinbase for institutions paying to store and trade crypto, earn staking rewards and borrow funds. Its recurring custody fees and lending fees are the revenue lines to watch alongside Coinbase Prime’s institutional services.
Galaxy Digital competes with Coinbase for institutions paying to trade crypto and derivatives or obtain financing. Watch its Global Markets trading fees and lending income separately from gains or losses on positions Galaxy holds itself.
Strategy’s Bitcoin accumulation exposes its results to the same market that drives a substantial part of Coinbase’s customer trading and assets held in custody, although Strategy sells analytics software while Coinbase earns service fees. Watch Strategy’s Bitcoin-related unrealized losses as a sign of price exposure, not a measure of Coinbase’s trading revenue.
Riot Platforms mines Bitcoin and pays Coinbase for custody and financing, adding a customer relationship to their shared exposure to Bitcoin markets. Riot fully drew its $200 million Coinbase Credit facility, making its borrowing a concrete link to Coinbase’s institutional financing business.
MARA Holdings and Coinbase are exposed to Bitcoin markets in different ways: MARA earns newly issued Bitcoin and transaction fees by validating blocks, while Coinbase charges customers for trading and institutional custody. MARA’s mining output is therefore not a direct measure of the customer trading activity that pays Coinbase.
CleanSpark mines and monetizes Bitcoin and holds Bitcoin at Coinbase, linking it to Coinbase as a customer as well as through the market that influences trading fees. Watch its decisions to sell mined Bitcoin or use Bitcoin-linked contracts to fund operations, without assuming those trades all take place on Coinbase.
Coincheck Group N.V. offers a view of the same global crypto cycle affecting Coinbase, but serves Japanese retail investors rather than Coinbase’s predominantly U.S. trading customers. Coincheck buys from and sells to customers itself and earns the price difference, so watch its Marketplace trading revenue alongside Coinbase’s consumer fees.
Exodus Movement, Inc. competes with Coinbase’s Base App for users who control their own wallet keys and want crypto swaps, cash access, staking and decentralized apps. Exodus mainly earns fees from third-party service providers rather than holding user assets, so watch revenue from those wallet integrations.
Bakkt, Inc. competes with Coinbase to supply crypto trading infrastructure to financial institutions and fintech businesses, with both earning transaction fees. Bakkt charges on both the buy and sell legs and depends on a small number of clients, so changes in those partnerships are worth watching for institutional trading competition.
Galaxy Digital Inc. earningsGLXY
Galaxy Digital’s report will show how active institutional trading and lending are, and how it is competing with Coinbase for that business.
Separate Galaxy Digital’s Global Markets trading fees from lending income, and compare them with Coinbase’s institutional transaction revenue and interest and finance fee income. Do not treat gains or losses on Galaxy’s own positions as customer trading demand. Strong fees and lending income would point to active institutional business, but also a rival competing for Coinbase’s trading and financing revenue. Weak fee income alongside gains mainly from Galaxy’s own positions would not show strong customer demand; Coinbase’s own figures remain decisive.
Robinhood Markets, Inc. earningsHOOD
Robinhood’s report will show what its U.S. crypto trading activity and revenue mean for competition with Coinbase for consumer trades.
Compare Robinhood’s crypto trading activity and related revenue with Coinbase’s consumer trading volume and transaction revenue. If Robinhood’s activity and revenue are strong, its commission-free order routing and other approaches are attracting business, putting more direct pressure on Coinbase’s consumer fees and trading share. If both are weak, there is less evidence of that pressure, but it does not prove customers moved to Coinbase.
Fed Interest Rate Decision
The Fed’s decision tracks the policy interest rate that influences borrowing costs and interest earned across the economy; it matters to Coinbase because rates affect interest on customer custodial funds and its share of USDC reserve income.

If it comes in above expectations
If the rate is above the estimate, higher rates may lift interest Coinbase earns on customer custodial funds and its share of USDC reserve income, while making Coinbase’s own borrowing more expensive when it reprices or borrows anew.
If it comes in below expectations
If the rate is below the estimate, lower rates may reduce interest Coinbase earns on customer custodial funds and its share of USDC reserve income, while making its own borrowing cheaper when it reprices or borrows anew.
Coinbase Global, Inc. earningsThis company
Coinbase’s report will show whether trading activity can support transaction revenue and USDC-related income can help offset pressure from interest rates.
Read trading volume alongside transaction revenue: if volume grows but revenue lags, customers may be shifting toward lower-fee trading; if both hold up, activity is translating into fees. Then look at USDC-related revenue and the balances and interest rates behind it. Growth there can offset pressure on trading; if transaction revenue weakens and USDC income is also squeezed, Coinbase remains exposed to trading and rate changes.
Riot Platforms, Inc. earningsRIOT
Riot Platforms’ report will show whether the customer that fully drew its $200 million Coinbase Credit facility has the cash flow to support repayment.
Look at Riot Platforms’ operating cash flow, cash and debt, bearing in mind that it fully drew its $200 million Coinbase Credit facility. Steady cash flow and manageable debt would support the view that this financing customer can repay; weaker cash flow or heavier debt pressure would raise Coinbase’s customer credit risk, but would not by itself mean a loss has occurred.
Circle Internet Group, Inc. earningsCRCL
Circle Internet Group’s report will show how USDC circulation and reserve income affect the stablecoin economics it shares with Coinbase.
Read USDC circulation alongside Circle Internet Group’s reserve income, then compare them with Coinbase’s stablecoin revenue. Growth in both would point to a larger pool of economics to share, but Coinbase receives only a portion, and reserve income also depends on interest rates. If circulation rises while reserve income weakens, rate pressure may offset balance growth, so Coinbase’s income from the arrangement may not rise in step.
