Robinhood Markets lets individual investors trade stocks, options and cryptocurrencies through mobile apps and the Robinhood Legend desktop platform. Its business remains concentrated in the United States. It also owns Bitstamp, a cryptocurrency exchange serving retail and institutional customers.
Most revenue comes from transactions, with options and cryptocurrencies contributing the largest shares. Market makers pay Robinhood for routing stock and options orders to them, while liquidity providers pay rebates on routed cryptocurrency orders. This is how commission-free trading can generate revenue. Interest is the next-largest source: Robinhood earns it from customer margin loans, cash balances, securities lending and its own cash and investments. Customers also pay recurring fees for Robinhood Gold, a smaller revenue source.
The business depends heavily on how much customers trade and deposit, especially its most active brokerage customers. Interest earnings also depend on rates and interest-earning balances. Robinhood relies on liquidity providers to accept orders and keep paying for them; many arrangements are not binding contracts. Services are limited to jurisdictions where it has authorization, and its broker-dealers must maintain regulatory capital and customer-protection reserves. It could also have to stop trading a supported cryptocurrency if a court or regulator classifies it as a security.
The risk section is the longest, dullest part of the filing. This keeps only what can really hurt you: where it hits, how hard, when it plays out.
Every company claims an edge. Each one is checked against hard numbers like margins and returns: which hold, and which line gives way first.
Beyond the retail trading, customer balances and interest rates that drive Robinhood’s results, watch privately held Kalshi and Polymarket for competition in its growing prediction-market business.
Coinbase Global competes with Robinhood for retail crypto traders, with growing overlap in derivatives, stocks and prediction markets. Coinbase charges consumers trading fees; its consumer transaction revenue is the line to watch alongside Robinhood’s crypto revenue.
Webull competes with Robinhood for investors trading on their phones, and both earn payments for sending customer trades to firms that execute them. Watch Webull’s U.S. order-routing revenue, paid by market makers and exchange partners rather than through customer brokerage commissions.
Interactive Brokers competes with Robinhood for individuals trading stocks, options, futures and contracts on event outcomes through low-cost online platforms. Its automated brokerage executes and settles trades for individuals and institutions; watch its product and pricing news for competition with Robinhood’s expanding trading tools.
Charles Schwab competes with Robinhood for retail assets and trades, while both earn substantial interest revenue from client cash and interest-bearing balances. Schwab provides brokerage, banking and asset-management services; watch its net interest revenue alongside Robinhood’s exposure to customer balances and interest rates.
eToro Group Ltd. competes with Robinhood for individuals trading stocks and cryptoassets on digital investing platforms. eToro earns revenue from its users’ trading platform; watch its CopyTrader offering, which lets users copy another investor, as a different way to attract those customers.
SoFi Technologies competes with Robinhood for consumers using financial apps to invest, hold cash and use credit products.
Futu Holdings overlaps with Robinhood in online brokerage, lending customers money to trade and lending securities. Watch Futu’s margin-financing and securities-lending business alongside Robinhood’s interest earned on trading loans and net securities-lending revenue.
Gemini Space Station, Inc. competes with Robinhood for U.S. customers buying, selling and holding crypto, earning most of its revenue from trading fees. Its February 2026 plans to wind down operations in Europe and Australia and focus more resources on the U.S. are worth watching for that rivalry.
Morgan Stanley’s E-Trade business competes with Robinhood for retail customers who manage their own brokerage accounts and trade options.
UP Fintech and Robinhood both depend on customers’ securities trading to generate transaction revenue through their digital brokerages. UP Fintech charges customers commissions based on trading volume or order size, so watch its commission revenue and rates when assessing the trading activity behind Robinhood’s stock and options revenue.
Bullish competes with Robinhood’s Bitstamp business by providing institutional customers an exchange for crypto spot and derivatives trading. Watch Bullish’s exchange products and fees for the competition facing Robinhood’s move into institutional crypto services.
Virtu Financial and Robinhood earn money from securities trading in different ways: Virtu stands ready to buy and sell and keeps small price spreads, while Robinhood earns payments for routing retail orders to market makers. Watch Virtu’s market-making results as another view of trading conditions, not as evidence of a direct payment relationship with Robinhood.
Galaxy Digital and Robinhood both earn crypto trading revenue, with Robinhood’s Bitstamp acquisition extending its reach to institutional exchange customers. Galaxy charges clients trading and loan-structuring fees and earns lending interest; watch its Global Markets trading fees rather than its data-center business for this connection.
DraftKings competes with Robinhood’s growing event-contract offering for customers wagering on outcomes through sports betting and prediction markets. DraftKings keeps settled sports wagers minus payouts to winners; watch its prediction-market products rather than treating swings in sports-betting revenue as a direct signal for Robinhood.
Robinhood Markets, Inc. earningsThis company
Robinhood earns most of its revenue from customer trading and interest, and this report will show whether trading activity and interest-earning balances still support both.
Read transaction revenue from options, crypto and equities alongside trading activity, then check net interest revenue. Growth across several products with steady net interest revenue would show that customer use and interest-earning balances are both supporting revenue. If growth is concentrated in a few products or reflects revenue mix while participation weakens and net interest revenue falls, Robinhood is relying more on pockets of trading activity and the interest-rate environment.
Fed Interest Rate Decision
Robinhood earns interest on customer margin loans, cash held through Cash Sweep, corporate investments and securities lending, so Fed rate changes can shift what it earns on those balances.
Expected4.0%Last release4.0%
If it comes in above expectations
Higher rates can lift returns on Robinhood’s interest-sensitive assets, including margin loans and cash balances, supporting net interest revenue; higher borrowing costs may also make some customers more likely to fall behind on payments.
If it comes in below expectations
Lower rates can reduce what Robinhood earns on margin loans, Cash Sweep deposits, corporate investments and securities lending, weighing on net interest revenue and customers’ returns on cash deposits.
Coinbase Global, Inc. earningsCOIN
Coinbase’s consumer transaction revenue will show how active retail crypto traders are in the market it shares with Robinhood.
Compare Coinbase’s consumer transaction revenue with Robinhood’s crypto transaction revenue. Growth at both would point to more activity in the retail market they share; weakness at both would point to softer retail crypto trading. If they diverge, differences in customers, products or revenue mix may explain it, so the results alone would not show that one took trading from the other.
DraftKings Inc. earningsDKNG
DraftKings’ prediction-market products will show how strongly it is competing with Robinhood for customers trading event contracts.
Focus on what DraftKings says about its prediction-market products, not swings in ordinary sports-betting revenue. Stronger product activity or related revenue would show more customer engagement in this market and more direct competition for Robinhood’s event contracts. Flat or weaker results would point to limited traction for DraftKings’ product, but would not establish Robinhood’s customer demand.
Virtu Financial, Inc. earningsVIRT
Virtu Financial’s market-making results will show how trading conditions affect market makers, while Robinhood earns revenue by routing retail orders to them.
Look at Virtu’s market-making revenue and related trading results. Stronger results would suggest more favorable conditions for market makers, useful context for Robinhood’s order-routing revenue; weaker results could indicate a tougher environment. The companies earn money in different ways, so Virtu’s report would not establish that it pays Robinhood or show how Robinhood’s routing revenue changed.
Futu Holdings Limited earningsFUTU
Futu’s margin-financing and securities-lending results will show how customer borrowing and stock lending are supporting income streams Robinhood also has.
Read Futu’s margin-financing balances and related revenue alongside the scale or revenue of its securities lending. Growth in both would show that customer borrowing and stock lending are supporting Futu’s income, offering a reference for Robinhood’s margin interest and securities-lending revenue. Weakness in both would suggest pressure on those channels, but would not prove the same change at Robinhood.
Bullish earningsBLSH
Bullish’s exchange products and fees will show how institutional crypto trading demand is shaping competition with Robinhood’s Bitstamp business.
Look at use of Bullish’s exchange products and the related fee revenue. Stronger activity and revenue would point to firmer institutional demand for spot or derivatives exchanges, and stronger competition for Robinhood’s Bitstamp business; weakness would suggest softer demand. Bullish’s results describe its own customers and products, not Bitstamp’s performance.
Webull Corporation earningsBULL
Webull’s U.S. order-routing revenue will show how retail trading supports payments from market makers and exchange partners, a revenue path Robinhood also uses.
Read Webull’s U.S. order-routing revenue alongside customer trading activity or order volume. If routing revenue rises with activity, retail trading is supporting this type of payment, which is relevant to Robinhood’s own routing revenue; if both weaken, that source has less support. The firms’ order flows and payment terms differ, so their results need not move together.
