Company

Company overview

eToro Group Ltd. serves individual investors who trade stocks, commodities, currencies and cryptoassets. Users can place their own trades, automatically follow another investor’s trades through CopyTrader, or choose themed investment baskets called Smart Portfolios. CopyTrader carries no additional charge; copied trades still generate the platform’s normal trading income.

Users pay through the difference between buying and selling prices and, on certain trades, additional execution fees. For most cryptoasset trading, eToro buys or sells the actual asset rather than only providing exposure to its price. Cryptoasset sales account for most revenue, while stocks, commodities and currencies are important sources of trading income. eToro also charges for leveraged positions kept open overnight and earns interest on idle user funds and its own cash. eToro Money adds currency-conversion and withdrawal fees.

The business depends on investors funding accounts and continuing to trade, so its income mix shifts with market sentiment, cryptoasset activity and interest rates. It relies on outside liquidity providers and financial institutions to execute and hedge trades and hold assets. Local licenses and rules limit what users can access: eToro restricts contracts for difference in Spain and Belgium, and CopyTrader has limited availability in the United States.

  • Robinhood competes with eToro for retail investors buying securities and cryptoassets on digital platforms. Watch Robinhood’s crypto trading fees and product availability in the U.S., where eToro also offers cryptoassets, equities, ETFs and options.

  • Coinbase competes with eToro for consumers’ crypto trades, with both earning fees or spreads when customers transact. Coinbase’s consumer transaction-fee revenue is worth watching for the retail crypto activity that also drives eToro’s cryptoasset revenue.

  • Interactive Brokers competes with eToro for individual investors who want to trade multiple asset classes globally through an automated platform. Its low-cost access to global markets—and commission-free U.S.-listed stock and ETF trades for participating U.S. customers on IBKR Lite—puts a concrete alternative beside eToro’s trading and copy-investing services.

  • Webull competes with eToro for retail investors who want securities trading and an investor community on their phones. Unlike eToro’s trading fees and spreads, Webull’s main U.S. brokerage revenue comes from market makers and exchange partners paying it to send customer orders to them for execution; outside the U.S., it typically charges customers commissions.

  • Futu competes with eToro for retail brokerage customers by combining online securities trading, borrowing to trade and investor communities. Futu’s financing offering is worth watching alongside eToro’s fees on leveraged positions held overnight, which make borrowing as well as trading relevant to eToro’s income.

  • UP Fintech and eToro both depend on retail customers placing orders on their digital brokerage platforms. Watch UP Fintech’s commission revenue alongside its commission rates: customer trading volume drives that revenue, just as retail trading activity drives eToro’s net trading income from equities, commodities and currencies.

  • Charles Schwab competes with eToro for retail brokerage accounts, and both earn income from client trading and interest-bearing balances. Watch Schwab’s active brokerage accounts and net interest revenue alongside eToro’s funded accounts and income from customer cash and leveraged positions.

  • Galaxy Digital’s digital-asset trading and lending business shares exposure to the crypto cycle that drives an important part of eToro’s contribution. Watch transaction fees in Galaxy’s Global Markets business, which are typically tied to trading volume, rather than treating gains on its own positions or lending interest as a direct match for eToro’s retail crypto trading.

  • CoinShares PLC shares exposure to the crypto investment cycle that materially affects eToro, but earns recurring fees from managing digital-asset investments as well as returns from trading, staking and lending. Watch its Asset Management and Capital Markets businesses separately: demand for investment products is not the same measure as the retail crypto trading that drives eToro’s cryptoasset revenue.
