Aligos Therapeutics is a clinical-stage biotechnology company developing treatments for chronic hepatitis B, MASH—a form of fatty liver disease—and coronavirus infections. Its lead programs include pevifoscorvir sodium for hepatitis B, ALG-055009 for MASH, and ALG-097558 for COVID-19. It is also researching ALG-055009 for obesity. None of its drugs is approved for sale.
Customers pay Aligos to perform research and development under contracts. Amoytop has been its main revenue source through an agreement to develop hepatitis B compounds using nucleic acid technology. The research collaboration ended in November 2025, but Amoytop exercised its option to license one compound for development and commercialization in specified territories. That license provides a path to development and sales milestone payments and royalties on future sales; studies preparing the selected compound for human trials have already triggered a milestone payment.
Aligos has funded operations mainly by raising capital, supplemented by licensing and collaboration revenue, and needs substantial additional financing to continue development. It relies on outside organizations to conduct all clinical trials and manufacture its drug candidates. Product-sales revenue depends on completing development, obtaining regulatory approval, and building a commercial operation itself or with partners, with adequate insurance coverage and reimbursement.
The risk section is the longest, dullest part of the filing. This keeps only what can really hurt you: where it hits, how hard, when it plays out.
Every company claims an edge. Each one is checked against hard numbers like margins and returns: which hold, and which line gives way first.
Aligos's prospects hinge on clinical progress in HBV and MASH and on financing, while Amoytop offers a separate source of potential licensing milestones and royalties.
Assembly Biosciences, Inc and Aligos both develop hepatitis B treatments, so Assembly's antiviral trial results give Aligos holders a comparison for its chronic HBV program. Watch those trial results rather than Assembly's collaboration revenue, which includes licensing payments.
Arbutus Biopharma Corporation is pursuing the same chronic hepatitis B patients as Aligos's pevifoscorvir sodium, using RNA-targeting and immune-modulating treatments. Watch imdusiran and AB-101 results for their ability to suppress the virus and support outcomes without ongoing treatment.
Madrigal Pharmaceuticals, Inc. already sells Rezdiffra in the same MASH drug class Aligos is pursuing with ALG-055009: thyroid hormone receptor beta agonists. Its $958.4 million in U.S. Rezdiffra net product revenue in 2025 gives Aligos holders a concrete sales benchmark for that class.
Viking Therapeutics, Inc and Aligos are developing oral MASH drugs with the same thyroid hormone receptor beta-selective mechanism, making Viking a close comparison for ALG-055009. Viking has not generated revenue, so the comparison is in drug development rather than sales.
Altimmune, Inc.'s pemvidutide competes with Aligos's ALG-055009 for future MASH treatment use through a different mechanism. Watch pemvidutide's liver and weight-related trial results and tolerability as an alternative to Aligos's approach.
Sagimet Biosciences Inc. develops MASH drugs that inhibit fatty acid synthase, or FASN, competing for future treatment use with Aligos's thyroid hormone receptor beta approach. Its denifanstat program is a different-mechanism development track to watch alongside ALG-055009.
Inventiva S.A.'s oral lanifibranor targets the same MASH patients as Aligos's ALG-055009 through a different mechanism. Lanifibranor is now Inventiva's only candidate in development, making its progress the relevant comparison for Aligos holders.
Precision BioSciences, Inc.'s PBGENE-HBV pursues the same infection as Aligos's chronic hepatitis B program, but uses gene editing rather than Aligos's drug approach. Precision has prioritized PBGENE-HBV as one of two lead programs, making its development progress the news to watch.
GSK plc develops both hepatitis B and MASH treatments, putting it against both of Aligos's principal liver-disease programs. For Aligos holders, the relevant news is progress in those liver treatments, not GSK's broader medicine and vaccine sales.
Gilead Sciences Inc sells hepatitis B medicines and develops further HBV treatments, giving Aligos's HBV pipeline both a commercial and a development benchmark. Watch its hepatitis B business and new HBV programs rather than its wider HIV and cancer portfolio.
Viking Therapeutics, Inc earningsVKTX
Viking Therapeutics' report will show how its MASH drug using the same mechanism is progressing, giving Aligos a direct development comparison for ALG-055009.
Focus on Viking's clinical-development updates, not a comparison of the companies' revenue or spending. Progress with its same-mechanism drug would show that this approach can advance; delays or setbacks would add uncertainty for Aligos's ALG-055009, but would not determine Aligos's own trial results.
Gilead Sciences Inc earningsGILD
Gilead Sciences' report will show how its hepatitis B medicines and new programs are faring, offering Aligos a market and development benchmark for chronic hepatitis B.
Separate the performance of Gilead's hepatitis B medicines from updates on its new HBV programs. A steady or growing business alongside continued development would point to an active market and ongoing investment; weakness or stalled programs would make the backdrop less clear. Gilead's results cannot establish demand for Aligos's unapproved drug.
Madrigal Pharmaceuticals, Inc. earningsMDGL
Madrigal Pharmaceuticals' report will show sales of Rezdiffra, a drug in the same MASH class, giving Aligos a read on commercial acceptance of this approach.
Look for whether Rezdiffra sales continue to grow, alongside the company's explanation of access and patient use. Rising sales would show commercial acceptance for this drug class; flat or falling sales would suggest adoption may be harder. Rezdiffra is approved, while Aligos's candidate is not, so the two are not equivalent.
Aligos Therapeutics, Inc. earningsThis company
Aligos Therapeutics has no product sales and relies on collaboration revenue, so this report will show whether its cash use is keeping pace with progress in its drug programs.
Read cash and short-term investments alongside operating cash use, research spending and updates on the chronic hepatitis B program. If cash use is contained and the program advances, existing funds are still supporting development; if cash use rises without much progress, Aligos faces more urgent pressure to raise money or cut spending.
