Inventiva S.A. is developing lanifibranor, an oral drug candidate for MASH, a form of fatty liver disease. It is in the NATiV3 Phase III trial and is the company’s only drug candidate in development. Inventiva has no approved products and has never earned revenue from drug sales.
Revenue comes mainly from its licensing agreement with CTTQ, which holds development and commercialization rights in mainland China, Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan. Hepalys holds rights for MASH in Japan and South Korea. Both partners have paid upfront fees; further payments depend on agreed milestones, with royalties payable if the drug is approved and sold.
Inventiva needs additional financing to continue development. Its business depends heavily on lanifibranor’s trial results, regulatory approval and its licensees’ work in their territories. It has not submitted a marketing application and cannot sell the drug in the United States or European Union without the relevant approval. It also has no drug sales organization, so selling independently would require building one or arranging third-party commercialization.
The risk section is the longest, dullest part of the filing. This keeps only what can really hurt you: where it hits, how hard, when it plays out.
Every company claims an edge. Each one is checked against hard numbers like margins and returns: which hold, and which line gives way first.
Inventiva’s prospects hinge on lanifibranor succeeding in trials and winning approval, with licensing partners CTTQ and Hepalys offering potential milestone and royalty income.
Madrigal Pharmaceuticals already sells Rezdiffra to the MASH patients Inventiva hopes to treat with lanifibranor, making its sales a direct benchmark for demand. Rezdiffra generated $958.4 million in U.S. net product revenue in 2025, while Inventiva had not yet generated product sales.
Sagimet Biosciences is developing oral denifanstat for the same MASH treatment market Inventiva targets with oral lanifibranor. Denifanstat’s efficacy, safety and dosing convenience are the concrete points to compare as the two seek future treatment sales.
Altimmune’s pemvidutide competes with Inventiva’s lanifibranor for MASH patients and eventual prescriptions, though both remain in development. Watch pemvidutide’s MASH trial results, particularly its liver effects, weight effects and tolerability, rather than Altimmune’s spending across other liver-disease programs.
Novo Nordisk’s approved Wegovy and investigational MASH medicines compete with Inventiva’s lanifibranor for treatment use and trial participants. Patients choosing an approved treatment over a placebo-controlled trial could disrupt Inventiva’s NATiV3 retention and recruitment or retention in its required confirmatory trial.
Viking Therapeutics’ oral MASH candidate VK2809 competes with Inventiva’s oral lanifibranor for the same liver-disease treatment market. Viking had not generated revenue through its reporting period, so VK2809’s development progress—not existing drug sales—is the relevant comparison.
Eli Lilly’s Phase III MASH program competes with Inventiva’s lanifibranor and could raise the standards it must meet for efficacy and metabolic benefits. Lilly’s MASH trial results are the relevant news for judging lanifibranor’s future place in treatment.
GSK’s Phase III FGF-21 MASH program competes with Inventiva’s Phase III lanifibranor for future liver-disease treatment sales. Progress in that MASH program, rather than GSK’s vaccine or general-medicine sales, is what matters for this comparison.
GSK plc earningsGSK
GSK’s report will show how its Phase III FGF-21 MASH program is progressing, revealing how close another late-stage candidate is to competing with Inventiva’s lanifibranor.
Look for updates on the Phase III program and its trial progress. Clear progress would mean another potential treatment is advancing toward the market, giving lanifibranor a more advanced competitor if it is approved. Little reported progress would leave the timing and likelihood of that competition uncertain; it would not tell you how lanifibranor’s own trial is going.
Madrigal Pharmaceuticals, Inc. earningsMDGL
Madrigal’s report will show how Rezdiffra sales are developing, offering Inventiva a real-world reference for demand among patients who might someday use lanifibranor.
Look at Rezdiffra sales alongside what Madrigal says about patient use and the sales trend. Growing sales with broader patient use would show that patients are taking an approved MASH treatment, evidence of a potential market for lanifibranor if approved. Flat sales or growth from a narrow base would leave that market’s reach less certain; Rezdiffra sales cannot show that patients would choose lanifibranor.
Novo-Nordisk A/S earningsNVO
Novo Nordisk’s report may show whether Wegovy’s MASH use or related trial progress could draw patients from the studies Inventiva needs to complete.
Watch for reporting on Wegovy use in MASH and progress in related studies. If use of an approved treatment is growing, fewer patients may be willing to join placebo-controlled trials, increasing pressure on Inventiva to recruit or retain participants for further studies. If there is no such signal, that pressure is less evident, but it does not establish that Inventiva’s enrollment is on track.
