Protara Therapeutics is a clinical-stage drug developer focused on two candidates. It is testing TARA-002 for non-muscle-invasive bladder cancer and lymphatic malformations—abnormalities of the lymphatic vessels. Its other candidate, IV Choline Chloride, is intended to prevent or treat choline deficiency in patients who receive long-term nutrition through an intravenous infusion. Available intravenous nutrition formulations do not contain choline.
Neither candidate is approved for commercial sale, and Protara has never generated revenue. It funds its work mainly by selling shares and related securities to investors, rather than through customer payments. Potential drug sales depend on successful clinical trials and regulatory approval; payment would also depend on government and private insurers providing coverage and adequate reimbursement.
Protara relies entirely on outside contractors to manufacture and supply its clinical medicines and plans to use them for commercial supply if approved. For TARA-002, its agreement with Chugai Pharmaceutical provides time-limited exclusive access to starting material and technical support for development and commercialization outside Japan and Taiwan.
The risk section is the longest, dullest part of the filing. This keeps only what can really hurt you: where it hits, how hard, when it plays out.
Every company claims an edge. Each one is checked against hard numbers like margins and returns: which hold, and which line gives way first.
Protara’s prospects hinge on clinical and regulatory success for TARA-002 and IV Choline Chloride, while privately held Ferring also competes in non-muscle-invasive bladder cancer.
CG Oncology’s cretostimogene competes with Protara’s TARA-002 as an investigational immunotherapy for non-muscle-invasive bladder cancer. Watch its clinical results in high- and intermediate-risk patients to gauge the competition TARA-002 faces.
enGene Therapeutics’ investigational gene medicine detalimogene competes with Protara’s TARA-002 for bladder-cancer patients, trial recruitment and potential future sales. Its clinical progress in high-risk non-muscle-invasive bladder cancer with carcinoma in situ that does not respond to BCG is the development to watch; enGene plans to sell it independently in the U.S. if approved.
ImmunityBio already sells ANKTIVA with BCG for adults with BCG-unresponsive non-muscle-invasive bladder cancer with carcinoma in situ, with or without papillary tumors, giving Protara’s TARA-002 a commercial rival and treatment benchmark. ANKTIVA unit sales show uptake of this competing treatment.
Relmada Therapeutics’ lead candidate NDV-01 competes with Protara’s TARA-002 for the non-muscle-invasive bladder cancer treatment opportunity. Watch NDV-01’s Phase 2 results rather than sales: Relmada has no approved products and has generated no revenue.
Merck manufactures the standard treatment TICE BCG and sells Keytruda for non-muscle-invasive bladder cancer, both competitors to Protara’s TARA-002 if approved. Watch BCG availability: more supply could reduce demand for alternatives among patients who have never received BCG or have previously received it.
Johnson & Johnson is already shaping the non-muscle-invasive bladder cancer market Protara seeks to enter: its Janssen business sells Inlexzo and develops TAR-200 plus cetrelimab. Watch that combination’s clinical progress alongside Inlexzo; Johnson & Johnson sells prescription medicines to retailers, wholesalers, hospitals and healthcare professionals.
UroGen Pharma’s Zusduri competes in the broader bladder-preserving treatment market Protara targets with TARA-002, specifically treating recurrent low-grade, intermediate-risk non-muscle-invasive bladder cancer. Watch adoption of Zusduri, an approved medicine that uses a gel to release mitomycin over several hours.
Palvella Therapeutics is a potential competitor to Protara’s TARA-002 in lymphatic malformations, developing treatments for rare skin diseases and vascular malformations. Watch its development progress rather than product sales: Palvella had no approved products or product revenue as of December 31, 2025.
Merck & Co., Inc. earningsMRK
If Merck's report updates TICE BCG availability, it will show whether patients can more readily get this standard bladder-cancer treatment instead of seeking alternatives.
Look for a specific update on TICE BCG availability; Merck's overall results are not a substitute for supply information. If supply improves, eligible patients may be more able to use BCG, leaving less need for alternatives such as TARA-002. If constraints persist, the need for alternatives may be greater, but TARA-002 would still have to demonstrate benefit and win approval.
ImmunityBio, Inc. earningsIBRX
ImmunityBio's report will show uptake of ANKTIVA with BCG among patients whose bladder cancer has not responded to BCG, a commercial benchmark for Protara if TARA-002 is approved.
Watch ANKTIVA unit sales to gauge use of the combination in its approved patient group. Rising units show patients and clinicians are taking up a competing treatment and set a benchmark for TARA-002 if approved; weak units suggest slower uptake, but do not establish that patients would switch to TARA-002.
Protara Therapeutics, Inc. earningsThis company
Protara has no product revenue, so this report will show whether its available funds can keep its clinical programs moving forward.
Read cash and marketable securities alongside cash used in operations and research spending, and note any disclosed clinical progress. If available funds support continued development, the spending is advancing the pipeline; if cash use rises without much progress, resources are running down faster than the programs are moving, increasing financing pressure.
Palvella Therapeutics, Inc. earningsPVLA
Palvella Therapeutics' report may show whether its vascular-malformation programs are advancing, signaling potential competition for Protara's TARA-002 in lymphatic malformations.
Look for development updates on treatments for vascular or lymphatic malformations, not product sales; as of December 31, 2025, Palvella had no approved products or product revenue. Progress would show a potential rival moving forward; little progress would mean less near-term competitive pressure, not that TARA-002's own trials will succeed.
