Lithium Americas Corp. has no operating revenue yet. Its business centers on Thacker Pass in Nevada, its only material mining project, where it plans to extract lithium from sedimentary ore and process it into lithium carbonate for batteries. The company manages the project and owns a majority interest; General Motors (GM) owns the remainder.
GM is also the project’s main prospective customer. Its purchase agreement covers up to all first-phase production, though actual purchases depend on its requirements. The joint venture must prioritize GM’s needs, and the agreement limits commitments to other buyers. Future sales therefore depend heavily on GM as well as demand and prices for battery-grade lithium.
For now, development relies on financing rather than product sales, including GM’s investment and a U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) loan. Continued loan draws depend on meeting conditions, and some operations and project contracts require DOE consent. Thacker Pass has key construction permits, but later phases require further approvals. The processing method has produced battery-quality samples at the company’s Reno technical center but has not been demonstrated at commercial scale; turning it into a working mine and chemical plant is central to the business.
The risk section is the longest, dullest part of the filing. This keeps only what can really hurt you: where it hits, how hard, when it plays out.
Every company claims an edge. Each one is checked against hard numbers like margins and returns: which hold, and which line gives way first.
General Motors, which sells vehicles to drivers, owns 38% of Thacker Pass and has a 20-year agreement to buy up to all its Phase 1 lithium carbonate, making it central to Lithium Americas’ future sales. Watch GM’s lithium purchase forecasts: the project must prioritize GM’s requirements, which limit volumes available to other buyers.
ioneer Ltd and Lithium Americas are both developing Nevada mines and processing plants to sell U.S.-produced lithium carbonate into the domestic supply chain. Watch ioneer’s final investment decision and supply-start commitments at Rhyolite Ridge for progress toward competing supply; it is still a development-stage business.
Standard Lithium Ltd. is developing U.S. lithium supply for the battery market that Lithium Americas plans to serve, but extracts lithium from brine rather than Thacker Pass ore. Its Arkansas demonstration plant tests extraction and purification for future commercial production; watch that transition, since Standard Lithium has no producing properties and relies primarily on equity financing.
Albemarle already makes lithium carbonate for batteries, competing in the market Lithium Americas plans to enter. Its Energy Storage business, which supplies lithium chemicals for electric-vehicle and other batteries, is the part to watch rather than its whole customer base.
Lithium Argentina AG already sells lithium carbonate, the battery chemical Lithium Americas plans to produce at Thacker Pass. Substantially all its 2025 sales went to Ganfeng and Bangchak under purchase agreements; the prices negotiated under market conditions or agreed formulas offer a reference for that product’s market.
SQM is a leading lithium producer selling products that compete with Lithium Americas’ planned lithium carbonate output. Watch its lithium and derivatives revenue rather than total sales: that line accounted for 50% of 2025 revenue, with iodine and plant nutrients also substantial businesses.
Lithium Americas depends on NACCO Industries, Inc.’s Sawtooth Mining to mine and supply all lithium-bearing ore for Thacker Pass’s processing plant under its comprehensive mining-services contract. Watch Sawtooth’s work at Thacker Pass within NACCO’s Contract Mining business for progress on the ore supply needed for production.
Sigma Lithium Corporation produces lithium concentrate for the supply chain, while Lithium Americas plans to sell refined lithium carbonate, so the two offer different products exposed to lithium demand. Watch Sigma’s planned expansion in Brazil from 270,000 to 520,000 tonnes of concentrate per year as a source of additional upstream supply, not finished carbonate.
Stardust Power Inc. plans an Oklahoma lithium carbonate refinery for battery manufacturers and automakers, competing for the customers Thacker Pass aims to serve, but it does not yet produce or sell the chemical. Watch its ability to secure brine-derived lithium chloride feedstock from multiple suppliers, which its refining plan depends on.
American Battery Technology Company develops mineral resources and recovers lithium from batteries for the domestic battery-material market Lithium Americas plans to enter. Watch whether it sells recovered battery powders or processes them further into lithium products intended to meet battery-grade specifications—the latter overlaps more closely with Thacker Pass’s planned output.
Atlas Lithium Corporation and Lithium Americas are both developing battery-supply projects, but Atlas plans to sell Brazilian lithium-bearing concentrate rather than Nevada-produced lithium carbonate. Watch its Minas Gerais project’s progress toward mining and concentrate production; it is a development plan, not stated current product sales.
Rio Tinto’s lithium business competes in the market Lithium Americas plans to enter, but its wider metals and minerals business makes group results a less direct lithium signal. Watch lithium developments within its Aluminium & Lithium segment rather than overall earnings, which are dominated by iron ore and copper.
General Motors Company earningsGM
General Motors’ report can show how it is planning future lithium purchases; as Thacker Pass’ joint-venture partner and a major prospective buyer, its forecasts affect where Lithium Americas can sell planned output.
Watch GM’s lithium purchase forecasts in light of the agreement: for the first five years, Phase 1 must prioritize GM’s requirements, subject to a 20% year-over-year cap on its annual forecast and limits on third-party commitments. Clear forecasts within those terms would make a major sales outlet more certain; weaker or unclear forecasts would leave more output without a committed buyer.
Fed Interest Rate Decision
For Lithium Americas, the Fed’s policy rate—the rate that guides borrowing costs across the economy—matters because it can change interest earned on the company’s cash and other investable balances while it develops Thacker Pass.
Expected4.0%Last release4.0%
If it comes in above expectations
Higher rates could lift interest earned on Lithium Americas’ investable balances, while also making any new borrowing more costly if the company needs additional capital for Thacker Pass.
If it comes in below expectations
Lower rates could reduce interest earned on Lithium Americas’ investable balances, while making new borrowing cheaper if the company needs additional capital for Thacker Pass.
NACCO Industries, Inc. earningsNC
NACCO’s Sawtooth Mining is contracted to mine and supply all lithium-bearing ore for Thacker Pass, so NACCO’s report can show whether the ore-supply work behind Lithium Americas’ planned processing operation is progressing.
Look for updates on Sawtooth’s Thacker Pass work within NACCO’s contract-mining business. Progress on the mining work would support the planned ore supply for Lithium Americas’ plant; delays or execution problems would threaten that supply path and could disrupt the production schedule.
Albemarle Corporation earningsALB
Albemarle’s Energy Storage business supplies lithium chemicals for batteries, so its results can show the demand and competitive conditions in the market Lithium Americas plans to enter.
Focus on Albemarle’s Energy Storage business, not its total sales. Strength there would suggest demand or pricing for battery lithium is holding up for an established supplier, a more supportive market for Lithium Americas; weakness would signal pressure that could constrain Thacker Pass’ future sales or pricing.
Lithium Argentina AG earningsLAR
Lithium Argentina already sells lithium carbonate, giving its lithium sales a market reference for the same product Lithium Americas plans to make at Thacker Pass.
Watch Lithium Argentina’s lithium and derivatives revenue alongside sales volume. Most of its 2025 sales went to Ganfeng and Bangchak under agreements with market-negotiated or formula-based prices. Steady revenue and volume would suggest market conditions still support an existing supplier; weakening revenue or less revenue per unit sold would point to a less favorable price environment for Lithium Americas’ future product.

Lithium Americas is building Thacker Pass and has no operating revenue yet, so this report will show whether project spending and funding still support the planned construction schedule.
Read Thacker Pass construction spending alongside cash, restricted cash and DOE Loan advances. Spending that tracks construction progress while loan funds continue to arrive subject to conditions would support the Phase 1 schedule; cost growth, delays or blocked advances would raise the risk of a funding gap or later production.
