Albemarle obtains lithium from mines owned by its Windfield and MARBL joint ventures and from brine operations in Chile and Nevada, then processes it into materials such as lithium carbonate and lithium hydroxide. Customers buy these materials for batteries used in electric vehicles, electronics and energy storage, among other applications. Its Energy Storage business supplies most of the company’s revenue.
The company also sells bromine and specialized lithium chemicals to manufacturers for uses including fire safety and pharmaceutical production. Through Ketjen, it sells catalysts that help refineries remove impurities and turn oil into fuels and chemical feedstocks, as well as chemicals used in plastics and resins. Albemarle has agreed to sell control of Ketjen’s Refining Solutions business while retaining a minority stake and continuing to operate Performance Catalyst Solutions; the sale is planned, not confirmed as completed.
The business depends heavily on lithium demand and market prices: many lithium sales contracts adjust with market indexes rather than lock in a fixed price. Sales are spread across customers, but China is a major destination. Access to mineral resources also matters. At Chile’s Salar de Atacama, extraction limits and water-monitoring thresholds restrict brine pumping and can require Albemarle to reduce or halt extraction.
The risk section is the longest, dullest part of the filing. This keeps only what can really hurt you: where it hits, how hard, when it plays out.
Every company claims an edge. Each one is checked against hard numbers like margins and returns: which hold, and which line gives way first.
Albemarle’s results hinge chiefly on lithium prices and battery demand; rivals to watch beyond this list are Ganfeng, Tianqi and Pilbara Minerals in lithium, and Lanxess in bromine.
SQM and Albemarle share exposure to lithium prices and battery demand: both turn Atacama brines into lithium chemicals and compete for global buyers. Watch SQM’s lithium revenue rather than its whole business, which also sells fertilizers and iodine.
Sigma Lithium Corporation supplies lithium concentrate from Brazil to the battery supply chain, competing with Albemarle’s mined lithium and spodumene sales. Its planned second production phase is worth watching for added concentrate supply in the market Albemarle serves.
Lithium Argentina AG sells lithium carbonate at market-linked prices, exposing it to the same lithium-chemical market that drives Albemarle’s results. Its sales to Ganfeng and Bangchak—substantially all its sales in 2025—offer a focused view of demand and pricing for that product.
Elevra Lithium Limited mines and processes lithium ore in Québec, selling spodumene concentrate that competes with Albemarle’s hard-rock lithium output and concentrate sales. Watch its proposed expansion at North American Lithium for potential additional supply, rather than treating that capacity as already operating.
ICL Group Ltd. competes with Albemarle in bromine sold into industrial markets, and both draw on Dead Sea raw materials. Its Industrial Products business is the relevant one to watch for bromine demand and pricing, rather than its fertilizer businesses.
Rio Tinto competes with Albemarle for lithium-chemical buyers, but its earnings mostly come from other mining businesses. Watch its lithium business separately: copper and iron ore dominate group earnings, while lithium is reported alongside aluminium.
Tesla’s sales of electric vehicles and stationary storage systems support demand for Albemarle’s lithium, while Tesla’s lithium-refining projects compete with Albemarle’s lithium chemicals. Watch both vehicle and storage sales for battery demand, and refining progress for competition.
Tesla, Inc. earningsTSLA
Tesla’s report will show whether vehicle and storage sales are supporting battery demand and whether its lithium-refining work is becoming a competitive source for Albemarle’s market.
Look at Tesla’s vehicle and stationary-storage sales alongside progress on its lithium-refining projects. Stronger sales point to support for battery-lithium demand; refining progress means a potential additional source of lithium chemicals competing for buyers Albemarle serves.
Fed Interest Rate Decision
The Fed’s policy rate—the benchmark that influences borrowing costs—matters to Albemarle because higher rates can make new or refinanced borrowing cost more and leave less cash for its operations and investment, while lower rates can ease that pressure.

If it comes in above expectations
Higher borrowing costs could leave Albemarle with less cash for operations and investment when it takes on or refinances debt; much of its existing debt is fixed-rate, so the effect depends on how much borrowing is affected.
If it comes in below expectations
Lower borrowing costs could ease the cash pressure on Albemarle when it takes on or refinances debt, leaving more available for operations and investment; much of its existing debt is fixed-rate, so the benefit depends on how much borrowing is affected.
Albemarle Corporation earningsThis company
Albemarle’s lithium sales move with market prices and volume, and this report will show whether volume and cost savings can cushion the effect on profit.
Read Energy Storage volume alongside adjusted EBITDA, a company-defined measure that excludes specified items. If both rise, demand and cost savings are cushioning price pressure; if volume grows but adjusted EBITDA falls, lower lithium prices still outweigh those supports, and the segment’s profit recovery remains fragile.
Lithium Argentina AG earningsLAR
Lithium Argentina sells lithium carbonate at market-linked prices, so its report will show how demand and pricing in the lithium-chemical market shared with Albemarle are faring.
Look at lithium carbonate sales revenue, including sales to Ganfeng and Bangchak. Improvement would indicate more favorable market-linked pricing or sales for this product and a supportive market signal for Albemarle’s lithium business; weakness would suggest the shared lithium market may still weigh on Albemarle’s revenue and profit.
ICL Group Ltd. earningsICL
ICL Group’s Industrial Products business competes with Albemarle in industrial bromine markets, so its report will show demand and pricing conditions the two share.
Focus on ICL Group’s Industrial Products business, not its fertilizer operations. Stronger results would indicate more favorable demand or pricing in industrial bromine markets and support for Albemarle’s related business; weaker results would point to pressure in the shared market for Albemarle’s bromine business.
Sigma Lithium Corporation earningsSGML
Sigma Lithium supplies lithium concentrate to the battery supply chain and competes with Albemarle’s mined lithium and spodumene sales, so its report will show whether more supply is entering their market.
Look at Sigma Lithium’s concentrate output and progress on its planned second production phase. Higher output or phase progress means more concentrate supply competing with Albemarle in the market; constrained output or delays mean less additional competition in the near term.
Sociedad Quimica y Minera de Chile SA earningsSQM
SQM’s lithium business shares Albemarle’s exposure to lithium prices and battery demand, so its report will show whether the market both companies serve is strengthening or under pressure.
Focus on SQM’s lithium revenue, not its fertilizer and iodine businesses. Rising lithium revenue points to improving demand or prices for lithium chemicals, a supportive sign for Albemarle’s Energy Storage business; falling revenue shows the shared market remains under pressure, making profit improvement harder for Albemarle’s lithium segment.
Industrial Production MoM (Oct)
This release tracks how much US factories, mines and utilities produce and use their capacity; stronger industrial activity can raise demand and sales volumes for Albemarle’s lithium, bromine and catalyst products used in industrial applications.
Stronger US industrial output would point to firmer potential demand and sales volumes for Albemarle’s lithium, bromine and catalyst products used in industrial applications; weaker output would point to softer demand and volumes.
