Company

Company overview

Sigma Lithium Corporation’s Xuxa mine supplies lithium-bearing ore to its Greentech Plant at Grota do Cirilo in Brazil. The plant separates the lithium-bearing minerals into concentrate sold as Green Lithium to customers in the electric-vehicle and energy-storage battery supply chain. Concentrate sales provide most revenue; the company exports its products by sea to international customers. Some sales are priced provisionally, with the final payment adjusted for market prices and customer-approved product quantity and quality.

The business centers on Grota do Cirilo. The Canadian parent has no operations and depends entirely on its Brazilian subsidiary, Sigma Mineração S.A., for cash flow. Earnings depend on lithium prices, demand from battery markets, and how much lithium the mine and plant can recover from the ore.

Mining paused in late 2025 as the company moved mining in-house and switched to larger equipment. The plant reprocessed tailings during the pause, and mine remobilization began in late January 2026. Operations also require Brazilian mining and environmental permits; losing or failing to renew them can stop work.

The risk section is the longest, dullest part of the filing. This keeps only what can really hurt you: where it hits, how hard, when it plays out.

SGML says it has a moat. Does it hold up?

Sigma Lithium’s results hinge on spodumene prices and mine execution; Pilbara Minerals and Mineral Resources are important lithium competitors to watch beyond this list.

  • Elevra Lithium competes with Sigma Lithium to sell spodumene concentrate to lithium buyers, and explicitly names Sigma as a competitor. Watch its proposed expansion at North American Lithium in Québec for progress toward adding more of the same product Sigma sells.

  • Albemarle and Sigma Lithium share exposure to lithium prices and battery demand: Albemarle sells lithium chemicals for batteries, while Sigma sells concentrate into that supply chain. Watch Albemarle’s Energy Storage business for demand from electric-vehicle and grid-battery applications.

  • SQM shares the lithium-price cycle that drives Sigma Lithium’s concentrate revenue, with lithium and derivatives accounting for 50% of SQM’s revenue in 2025. SQM mines and processes ore and brines to sell lithium, fertilizers and iodine; its lithium revenue is the line to watch rather than its broader sales.

  • Atlas Lithium is developing the same product in the same Brazilian state as Sigma Lithium: spodumene concentrate from Minas Gerais for battery-supply-chain buyers, but it is not yet a commercial producer. Watch its progress toward mining and concentrate production, not current product sales.

  • Lithium Argentina’s carbonate sales and Sigma Lithium’s concentrate sales both carry market-sensitive pricing. In 2025, Lithium Argentina sold substantially all its carbonate to Ganfeng and Bangchak under purchase agreements; watch its selling prices alongside Sigma’s final contract prices, which can revise revenue after initial invoicing.

  • Lithium Americas’ planned battery-grade lithium carbonate production depends on the same lithium market that sets Sigma Lithium’s concentrate prices. Its Thacker Pass project in Nevada is still under development, so watch progress toward supplying battery-material customers rather than treating it as an operating producer.

  • Rio Tinto’s lithium business shares Sigma Lithium’s exposure to lithium supply and battery demand, but its metal and mineral sales are much broader. Watch its lithium-business news rather than group earnings, which are dominated by iron ore and copper.

    Fed Interest Rate Decision

For Sigma Lithium, the Fed’s decision on its key interest rate matters because higher rates can increase interest costs on Sigma Brazil’s $100 million export prepayment, which bears interest at 12-month SOFR plus 6.95%, and reduce cash available for operations.
