Viant Technology Inc. provides software that marketers and advertising agencies use to plan campaigns, buy digital ad space and measure results. Its cloud-based buying platform, called a demand-side platform, handles advertising across connected TV, mobile, desktop and other channels. Customers pay platform fees based on advertising spend or the volume of ads delivered, with additional fees when they use extra campaign services.
Viant’s Household ID technology links devices to households so advertisers can reach audiences across devices without relying on cookies for identification. Its ViantAI suite automates campaign planning, bidding and measurement. This does not make the whole platform cookie-free: Viant still uses third-party cookies to obtain some consumer information and deliver advertising.
Advertising agencies supply a significant share of revenue, and Viant often contracts with and bills individual agencies rather than their parent holding companies. Customers generally make no long-term usage commitments, so revenue depends on their continuing to run campaigns through Viant. The platform also needs access to advertising inventory and outside data. Privacy rules require consumer disclosures and opt-outs from certain data uses, limiting what information Viant and its suppliers can collect or use.
The risk section is the longest, dullest part of the filing. This keeps only what can really hurt you: where it hits, how hard, when it plays out.
Every company claims an edge. Each one is checked against hard numbers like margins and returns: which hold, and which line gives way first.
Viant Technology Inc.’s results hinge on programmatic ad budgets and winning buying-platform business against rivals such as Yahoo DSP, which is missing from this list.
The Trade Desk competes with Viant for advertisers’ and agencies’ campaign spending: both help clients buy programmatic ads and charge fees tied to that spending. Watch spending through The Trade Desk’s platform for a read on the budgets Viant is competing to win.
Nexxen International Ltd. competes with Viant for advertisers and agencies paying to buy and measure programmatic campaigns. Focus on Nexxen’s ad-buying platform rather than its whole business, which also earns fees helping publishers sell ad space.
Magnite, Inc. shares Viant’s exposure to programmatic spending and television budgets moving to connected TV: Viant helps advertisers buy ads, while Magnite helps sellers sell those impressions and generally takes a share of the spending. Magnite’s connected-TV marketplace is the part to watch for demand in a channel Viant also serves.
PubMatic, Inc. and Viant earn fees on opposite sides of programmatic advertising: advertisers pay Viant to help buy impressions, while publishers generally pay PubMatic a share of the impressions’ value to help sell them. Watch PubMatic’s publisher activity across video, mobile and connected TV for demand in channels both platforms serve.
Google competes with Viant for digital advertising buyers while also supplying ad space that Viant needs to offer clients; advertisers pay Google for ads on its properties and partner properties. Watch changes to Google’s inventory access, since it can restrict the ad space available through Viant’s platform.
Amazon competes with Viant for advertising business, but Viant also relies on Amazon Web Services to run its ad-buying platform for marketers and agencies. Watch AWS service interruptions: they could disrupt Viant’s campaigns, reduce revenue or cause customers to leave.
AppLovin competes with Viant for advertisers’ digital campaign budgets, with both using AI to match ad demand to publishers’ available ad space. Watch Axon Ads Manager, which supplies substantially all of AppLovin’s revenue and charges advertisers dynamically according to campaign goals rather than a fixed price per impression.
Teads Holding Co. competes with Viant for advertisers buying digital ads, including connected TV, through either self-service tools or managed campaigns. Watch purchases through Teads’ platform, where advertisers pay per click or per thousand impressions, for competition over those campaign budgets.
DoubleVerify Holdings, Inc. shares Viant’s exposure to digital ad activity, but advertisers pay it to check transaction quality rather than buy ads. Watch the volume of transactions DoubleVerify measures, while allowing for growth from adding channels and platforms rather than higher ad spending alone.
Alphabet Inc. earningsGOOG
Alphabet’s report will show advertiser activity on Google’s and partner properties, while Google also supplies ad inventory to Viant’s platform.
Read Google advertising activity alongside whether Viant can continue to access the inventory it needs. Firm ad activity and available supply would support both demand and the ads Viant can offer clients; weaker activity or restricted inventory would point to pressure on demand or supply.
Magnite, Inc. earningsMGNI
Magnite’s report will show activity in its connected-TV marketplace, a channel where Viant also helps advertisers buy ads.
Focus on activity and revenue in Magnite’s connected-TV marketplace, then compare with Viant’s connected-TV demand. Stronger marketplace activity would indicate more active ad demand and inventory transactions in a channel Viant serves; weaker activity would signal pressure in that channel.
The Trade Desk, Inc. earningsTTD
The Trade Desk’s report will show advertiser and agency spending through its platform, a read on the campaign budgets Viant competes to win.
Compare spending through The Trade Desk’s platform with Viant’s own advertiser spend. Growth at both would suggest the programmatic budget pool is expanding; if The Trade Desk grows while Viant weakens, budgets are moving but Viant may be losing ground in winning that spend.
Viant Technology Inc. earningsThis company
Viant’s report will show whether more advertising run through its platform turns into higher contribution ex-TAC and operating profit.
Read advertiser spend and revenue alongside contribution ex-TAC—revenue after traffic acquisition costs—and operating profit. If spend and contribution ex-TAC rise together and operating profit also grows, Viant is winning more activity and keeping more of its value. If spend rises but contribution ex-TAC or operating profit weakens, pricing, mix or costs are absorbing the growth.
