Company

Company overview

Western Copper and Gold Corporation owns the Casino copper-gold project in Yukon, Canada, its sole mineral project. It remains at the exploration and permitting stage, with no producing mines and no revenue to date. The proposed mine would process ore into concentrates for sale and gold-silver bullion for shipment to refineries, with copper and gold as its main focus and molybdenum and silver also recovered.

The company uses available capital and capital-market fundraising to pay for exploration, engineering and permitting; building the mine would require substantial additional financing. Casino remains under environmental assessment, with supplemental information required before technical review can begin. Western has permits for its current work, but still needs approvals for mine construction and operation. Its business therefore depends on advancing this single project, securing funding and approvals, and metal prices and mining costs supporting an economic mine.

Western Copper and Gold Corporation’s value hinges on Casino’s permits, financing and copper-gold prices; watch Osisko Gold Royalties Ltd., absent from this list, which holds a right to 2.75% of net smelter returns rather than the gold developers shown here.

  • Seabridge Gold, Inc. shares Western’s exposure to metal prices and financing large new copper-gold mines: it advances undeveloped KSM in British Columbia while Western advances Casino in Yukon.

  • U.S. Gold Corp. and Western both need copper-gold economics and construction financing to turn CK Gold and Casino into mines, rather than earning from production today. U.S. Gold says CK Gold has all permits needed to start construction, making its financing progress a useful comparison for Casino.

  • Hudbay Minerals Inc. offers an operating comparison for Western’s planned Casino copper-gold mine because it already produces both metals and develops new copper projects. Watch progress at Copper World and Mason for a comparison with Casino’s path toward development.

  • Centerra Gold Inc.’s Mount Milligan mine and undeveloped Kemess project offer Canadian copper-gold comparisons for Casino, while its molybdenum business overlaps Western’s planned output. Its Langeloth facility buys molybdenum concentrates, upgrades them and sells to metallurgical and chemical markets—markets to watch for Casino’s planned separate molybdenum concentrate.

  • Freeport-McMoRan Inc.’s copper, gold and molybdenum sales expose it to the same principal metal markets as Western’s planned Casino mine. Those metals supplied 75%, 15% and 8% of Freeport’s 2025 consolidated revenue, respectively, making its market outlook a useful check on Casino’s projected economics.

  • McEwen Inc.’s gold production and stake in the Los Azules copper development tie its value to the gold and copper economics that also underpin Western’s Casino. Watch Los Azules’ development and financing progress, while remembering McEwen already produces gold and silver and Western has no producing mine.

  • GoldMining Inc. and Western both hold undeveloped gold-copper assets, so metal prices and investors’ willingness to fund development matter more than current mine earnings. GoldMining funds its operations mainly by issuing shares; its ability to raise equity is a comparison for the funding environment facing Casino, not evidence of Casino’s own financing.

  • International Tower Hill Mines, Ltd.’s single undeveloped Livengood gold project in Alaska shares Western’s exposure to gold prices and funding costly northern mine development. Livengood had not begun mining or commercial production at December 31, 2025, so it is a development comparison for Casino, not an operating earnings benchmark.

  • Southern Copper Corporation’s copper and molybdenum business provides a market benchmark for two metals Western plans to sell from Casino. Its production and processing operations in Peru and Mexico earn revenue today, so watch those metal businesses rather than treating its earnings as a forecast for an unbuilt mine.

  • Blue Moon Metals Inc. and Western both face the challenge of bringing new copper-gold resources into production; Nussir plans to sell copper concentrate, as Casino does. Watch Nussir’s start-up timetable: mining must begin by September 2027 for its operating licence to remain in place.

  • Barrick Mining Corporation earns chiefly from mining gold and copper, the two principal metals behind Western’s Casino economics. Its gold and copper earnings offer a view of those markets in operating mines, whereas Casino’s returns remain feasibility-study estimates.
