Most of Whirlpool’s revenue comes from major home appliances sold in the United States and Canada, including washers, refrigerators, cooking appliances and dishwashers under brands such as Whirlpool, Maytag and KitchenAid. Latin America is its other main appliance market, with brands including Consul and Brastemp. It also sells KitchenAid small appliances, including stand mixers, worldwide.
Retailers and distributors buy its appliances to resell, while builders buy them for homes. Whirlpool also sells directly to consumers and supplies some products for customers to sell under their own brands. Lowe’s is a major buyer and accounts for a substantial share of revenue. Most products are not sold under long-term contracts, so continued sales depend on trade customers choosing Whirlpool rather than shifting orders to other suppliers.
Stricter government energy standards for certain appliances require Whirlpool to adapt its products and can require redesigns and increase costs.
The risk section is the longest, dullest part of the filing. This keeps only what can really hurt you: where it hits, how hard, when it plays out.
Every company claims an edge. Each one is checked against hard numbers like margins and returns: which hold, and which line gives way first.
Beyond this list, watch LG, Samsung and Electrolux for major-appliance competition and Lowe’s for customer dependence: Whirlpool’s largest disclosed customer accounted for approximately 15% of its 2025 sales.
SharkNinja’s Ninja kitchen appliances compete for household spending with Whirlpool’s KitchenAid small appliances, which Whirlpool sells through retailers, distributors and directly to consumers. Watch Ninja’s position in U.S. small kitchen appliances for pressure on KitchenAid.
Fortune Brands Innovations’ kitchen and bath fixtures and Whirlpool’s appliances depend on the same North American homebuilding and kitchen-renovation spending, reaching buyers through retailers and building trades. Its Water business sells sinks and waste disposals; watch that business for renovation demand and competition with Whirlpool’s InSinkErator disposals.
Mohawk Industries sells flooring for residential remodeling and new construction, the same projects that generate purchases of Whirlpool appliances. Its Flooring North America sales offer a view of demand tied to those projects, though Mohawk also serves commercial properties.
A. O. Smith’s residential water heaters and Whirlpool’s major appliances share demand from households replacing equipment or equipping new homes. Watch A. O. Smith’s North American residential water-heater business for that demand, rather than treating its commercial sales as the same signal.
Lennar builds and sells U.S. homes, tracking new-home activity that creates demand for Whirlpool appliances sold to builders—not a disclosed purchasing relationship. Watch its homebuilding results, which supplied approximately 94% of consolidated revenue in fiscal 2025.
Builders FirstSource sells building materials and services to U.S. residential builders and remodelers whose projects also generate Whirlpool appliance purchases. Watch demand from those customers for its framing packages, windows and doors as a view of construction and remodeling activity.
PulteGroup sells homes across the United States, sharing the new-home demand that supports Whirlpool’s appliance sales to builders. Its homebuilding revenue is the relevant line to watch, rather than evidence that PulteGroup buys Whirlpool appliances.
Floor & Decor’s flooring sales share exposure to household renovation spending with Whirlpool’s kitchen and laundry appliances: home improvement projects often involve purchases of both.
Housing Starts (Sep)
For Whirlpool, these readings track homebuilding and sales of new homes: more activity can bring appliance orders from builders and homeowners for its laundry, refrigeration, cooking and dishwashing products, while less activity can reduce them.
Expected1.31MLast release1.275M
If it comes in above expectations
If the reading is above the 1.31M estimate, it is above the previous 1.275M. More starts or permits than expected point to stronger building activity, which may create more appliance orders from builders; stronger new-home sales may also bring more purchases from homeowners, supporting Whirlpool’s sales.
If it comes in below expectations
Fewer starts or permits than expected point to weaker building activity, which may reduce builders’ appliance orders; slower new-home sales may also mean fewer purchases by homeowners, weighing on Whirlpool’s sales.
Pultegroup, Inc. earningsPHM
PulteGroup’s homebuilding revenue gives a read on U.S. new-home demand, which can create opportunities for Whirlpool to sell appliances to builders.
Watch PulteGroup’s homebuilding revenue, not as a measure of Whirlpool orders but as a signal of new-home activity. Stronger revenue would point to more support for builder demand for appliances; weaker revenue would point to less support from this channel, without showing that PulteGroup buys from Whirlpool.
Whirlpool Corp. earningsThis company
Whirlpool’s report will show whether North American appliance sales are holding up and whether the gross margin—the share of sales left after product costs—is improving.
Read North American sales alongside gross margin, then look at Whirlpool’s explanations of volume, product mix, tariffs and supply-chain costs. Steady sales with a firmer margin would show a better balance between appliance sales and the costs of making and sourcing them. Weaker sales or a thinner margin would show that demand, the prices and mix of products sold, or costs are still squeezing the business.
Fed Interest Rate Decision
For Whirlpool, Fed rates track the cost of borrowing across the economy: they can change what consumers pay to finance appliances and what Whirlpool pays on debt, while also affecting housing demand.
Expected4.0%Last release4.0%
If it comes in above expectations
If the policy rate is above expectations, appliance financing may become more expensive for consumers, potentially weighing on demand from retailers, builders and households; Whirlpool may also face higher costs on debt that reprices or new borrowing.
If it comes in below expectations
If the policy rate is below expectations, cheaper financing may support consumers’ appliance purchases and housing-related demand; Whirlpool may also pay less on debt that reprices or on new borrowing.
A.O. Smith Corporation earningsAOS
A. O. Smith’s North American residential water-heater business offers a read on household equipment demand, which Whirlpool also depends on for its appliances.
Focus on A. O. Smith’s North American residential water-heater business; commercial sales are not the same signal. Stronger residential results would suggest firmer household replacement or equipment demand, a supportive sign for similar demand facing Whirlpool. If residential results weaken while commercial sales hold up, the softness is closer to households, where Whirlpool also sells appliances.
Floor & Decor Holdings, Inc. earningsFND
Floor & Decor’s flooring sales offer a read on household renovation spending, which can also generate demand for Whirlpool kitchen and laundry appliances.
Watch Floor & Decor’s flooring sales and its discussion of residential project demand. Stronger sales would suggest more support for renovation activity, a favorable backdrop for Whirlpool appliances that can be part of the same projects. Weaker sales would suggest less support, but would not prove that Whirlpool’s appliance sales moved in step.
Fortune Brands Innovations, Inc. earningsFBIN
Fortune Brands’ Water business shows demand for kitchen and bath products, and any disposal-specific disclosures can shed light on competition with Whirlpool’s InSinkErator.
Start with Fortune Brands’ overall Water results, then check whether it reports separately on sinks or waste disposals. Growth in Water alone signals stronger demand across a broader set of kitchen and bath products; it does not prove its disposals are taking business from InSinkErator. Disposal-specific strength would be a clearer sign of tougher competition in that product market, while weakness would suggest less pressure.
SharkNinja, Inc. earningsSN
SharkNinja’s U.S. small-kitchen-appliance results show how strongly it competes with Whirlpool’s KitchenAid small appliances for household spending.
Watch SharkNinja’s U.S. small-kitchen-appliance results alongside Whirlpool’s disclosures on KitchenAid small appliances. Stronger SharkNinja results would show it competing more forcefully for the same household spending and raise the pressure on KitchenAid. Weaker results would suggest less pressure, but would not prove that buyers switched from one brand to the other.
