Company

Company overview

Floor & Decor Holdings, Inc. is a U.S. flooring retailer whose warehouse-style stores hold enough stock for customers to buy materials for an entire project. Homeowners and professional customers both contribute substantially to retail sales, buying flooring and the supplies needed to install it. Customers can also order through FloorandDecor.com for pickup or delivery. Retail generates most revenue; the smaller Spartan Surfaces business sells commercial surfaces.

The company buys most products directly from manufacturers and also sources from quarries. This helps support its everyday-low-price approach rather than frequent promotions. Keeping a broad selection ready for purchase requires substantial inventory, so choosing products that match local demand matters: unsold stock may need discounts, while shortages can cost sales.

Demand depends heavily on housing activity and consumers’ willingness to spend on remodeling. Most products come from outside the United States, making import costs and availability important to the business. U.S. tariffs have raised product costs, and import restrictions effectively prohibit goods made wholly or partly in Xinjiang, requiring supply-chain compliance that can delay shipments.

  • Home Depot competes with Floor & Decor for homeowners’ and professional installers’ flooring and renovation purchases, but sells a broader range of home-improvement products. Watch its efforts to become professionals’ preferred supplier across their projects: those customers also buy flooring and installation materials from Floor & Decor.

  • Lowe’s and Floor & Decor compete for homeowners’ and professional customers’ flooring and remodeling purchases, with Lowe’s also selling a wider range of construction, repair and decorating products. Its business with small- and medium-sized trade and remodeling customers is worth watching for the overlap with Floor & Decor’s professional buyers.

  • Live Ventures competes directly with Floor & Decor for flooring purchases through its Flooring Liquidators retail business, but also owns businesses in textiles, tools, steel and entertainment. Focus on its flooring-retail results rather than the whole group to assess this rivalry.

  • Masco and Floor & Decor both depend on home repair and remodeling spending: Masco makes and distributes paint and plumbing fixtures for renovations, while Floor & Decor sells flooring to homeowners and professionals. Watch Masco’s Decorative Architectural Products sales, which normally strengthen in the second and third calendar quarters as repair and remodeling activity peaks.

  • Fortune Brands Innovations, Inc. and Floor & Decor draw on many of the same home-renovation budgets: Fortune Brands sells faucets, doors and decking through dealers, wholesalers and retailers, while Floor & Decor sells flooring to homeowners and professionals. Its Water and Outdoors sales are the lines to watch for demand for those renovation products, rather than its separate Security business.
