Company

Company overview

Live Ventures Inc owns operating businesses rather than mainly earning investment income. Flooring retail and manufacturing together account for most revenue, while steel manufacturing is its largest individual segment. It buys U.S. middle-market businesses to develop and hold, relying on their established managers to run daily operations.

Flooring Liquidators sells flooring and related home finishes to homeowners, builders and contractors, and earns money from installation as well as product sales. Marquis manufactures carpet and sells hard-surface flooring, mostly through flooring dealers; it also supplies Flooring Liquidators. These businesses depend on demand for homebuilding, remodeling and commercial projects.

Its industrial businesses serve distributors and manufacturers. Precision Marshall stocks and processes tool-and-die steel for distributors and service centers, without selling directly to end users. Kinetic earns most of its revenue from replacement knives and other wear parts for cutting equipment. Precision Metal Works makes customer-specific metal parts for appliance and automotive customers, while Central Steel supplies metal infrastructure products for data centers and communications networks. Industrial demand, particularly North American automotive production, matters to this part of the business.

Vintage Stock contributes a smaller revenue stream by buying and reselling new and used entertainment goods and collectibles to consumers through stores and online. Its sales depend on continued demand for physical products rather than digital alternatives. U.S. law also restricts imports of goods made wholly or partly in Xinjiang; scrutiny of PVC used in luxury vinyl flooring could constrain the flooring businesses’ supplies.

Live Ventures’ results depend on housing and renovation demand, industrial manufacturing activity and vintage-media sales, so flooring rivals—including Lowe’s—show only part of its diversified business.

  • Floor & Decor competes with Live Ventures’ Flooring Liquidators for homeowners and professional customers buying hard-surface flooring. Watch its sales to homeowners and professional installers for clues to flooring demand, which housing-market weakness has already hurt at Live Ventures.

  • Home Depot competes with Live Ventures’ Flooring Liquidators for homeowners and contractors paying for home-improvement products and installation services. Its sales to homeowners renovating their homes offer a clue to the demand facing Live Ventures’ flooring stores, rather than its business as a whole.

Agenda

todayTue, Oct 20

  1. 8:30 AMET pre-market

    Housing Starts (Sep)

Housing starts and permits count homes beginning construction or authorized to be built, while new-home sales track purchases; these readings indicate building activity that can change demand for LIVE VENTURES’ flooring products and its sales to flooring dealers and home centers.

  1. 8:30 AMET pre-market

    Durable Goods Orders MoM (Sep)

Durable goods orders track purchases of long-lasting products such as cars and appliances, so weaker orders can mean fewer steel products for LIVE VENTURES’ automotive customers and fewer custom stampings sold by Precision Metal Works.

in 8 daysWed, Oct 28

  1. 2:00 PMET

    Fed Interest Rate Decision

The Fed’s rate decision sets the policy rate that influences borrowing costs; because about $48.7 million of LIVE VENTURES’ credit borrowings float with rates, higher rates can raise interest paid and reduce earnings.

    Industrial Production MoM (Oct)

Industrial production measures output from factories, mines and utilities, and capacity use shows how much available production capacity is in use; weaker factory activity can mean less demand for LIVE VENTURES’ steel products and Precision Metal Works custom stampings.
