The ONE Group Hospitality runs Benihana, STK, Kona Grill and RA Sushi restaurants, where diners pay for meals and drinks. Company-owned restaurants generate nearly all its revenue, with Benihana contributing the largest share. Its business is overwhelmingly in the United States.
A smaller business earns fees from managing restaurants and food-and-beverage services for hotels, casinos and other clients, and from letting other operators use its restaurant brands through licensing and franchising. These operators and clients pay fees tied mainly to venue sales, with some management incentive fees tied to profits.
Sales depend on consumers choosing to spend on dining out. Business travel is especially important to weekday sales at hotel-based operations, which also depend on the host properties attracting guests. The venues must comply with food-safety and other operating rules, and alcohol sales require licenses that can be suspended or revoked.
The risk section is the longest, dullest part of the filing. This keeps only what can really hurt you: where it hits, how hard, when it plays out.
Every company claims an edge. Each one is checked against hard numbers like margins and returns: which hold, and which line gives way first.
Darden Restaurants competes for ONE Group’s STK steakhouse customers through Ruth’s Chris and The Capital Grille, while its other full-service brands compete more broadly for diners’ food-and-drink spending. Watch its Fine Dining segment rather than total sales for the closer comparison with STK.
Bloomin’ Brands competes with ONE Group on two fronts: Fleming’s sells upscale steakhouse meals against STK, while Bonefish Grill vies with its polished-casual restaurants. Results or news from those two brands offer a closer comparison than the company’s wider restaurant and franchise business.
GEN Restaurant Group competes with ONE Group’s Benihana for group meals centered on an interactive Asian dining experience. GEN charges diners a fixed price for unlimited Korean barbecue they cook themselves, making its pricing a useful comparison for that group-dining choice.
The Cheesecake Factory competes with ONE Group’s Kona Grill and other polished-casual venues for diners choosing an upscale-casual meal. Its restaurant performance is the relevant comparison, rather than bakery sales to retailers and other customers.
BJ’s Restaurants competes with ONE Group’s Kona Grill for polished-casual customers, selling meals from a broad menu alongside craft beer and a full bar. Watch its restaurant remodels and expansion, which BJ’s identifies as part of its effort to win dining share.
Texas Roadhouse competes with ONE Group for sit-down steak dinners, but sells moderately priced meals rather than STK’s upscale experience. Its steak pricing and included sides provide a concrete comparison for what diners get at a different price level.
Brinker International’s Maggiano’s competes with ONE Group for sit-down dinners and large-party occasions, while Chili’s competes more broadly with its casual-dining restaurants. Maggiano’s Italian American meals, family-style dining and banquet business are the closer comparison for group dining.
ONE Group buys food and related products from Sysco, which is singled out in its supplier-concentration disclosure: excluding Sysco, no food supplier accounts for more than 13% of total food-and-beverage purchases. That makes Sysco worth watching for supply news, although ONE Group says alternatives are plentiful and losing a supplier would not materially hurt supply costs.
Cheesecake Factory (The) earningsCAKE
The Cheesecake Factory’s report will show how diners are responding to polished-casual restaurants, the market where it competes with ONE Group’s Kona Grill.
Focus on the Cheesecake Factory’s restaurant sales, not its bakery sales to retailers. Strong restaurant sales would show that diners are still spending on polished-casual meals, a supportive backdrop for Kona Grill. Weak sales would point to a tougher fight for those diners. The comparison cannot establish how Kona Grill itself performed, but it shows whether demand among the customers they share is holding up.
Fed Interest Rate Decision
For ONE Group, Fed decisions track the direction of borrowing costs, which can change interest paid on its debt and the cash left to run its restaurants.

If it comes in above expectations
If the Fed sets rates above expectations, variable-rate borrowings may cost more, leaving less cash for restaurant operations and other needs.
If it comes in below expectations
If the Fed sets rates below expectations, variable-rate borrowings may cost less, leaving more cash for restaurant operations and other needs.
Sysco Corporation earningsSYY
Sysco’s report will show the supply and cost conditions facing a food supplier named by ONE Group, which may affect what ONE Group pays to stock its restaurants.
Read Sysco’s comments on food availability, procurement costs and pricing. Ample supply and easing cost pressure would point to a less difficult purchasing environment for ONE Group; disruptions or rising costs could raise restaurant expenses or force menu or price changes. ONE Group says no food supplier other than Sysco accounts for more than 13% of its food-and-beverage purchases and that alternatives are available. Sysco’s report is therefore a supply-and-cost signal, not proof that ONE Group will face the same changes.
The ONE Group Hospitality, Inc. earningsThis company
The ONE Group’s report will show whether sales at its established STK, Benihana and Grill Concepts restaurants are stabilizing and turning into restaurant profit.
Read same-store sales alongside restaurant operating profit margin. Same-store sales track sales at established restaurants; the margin shows what remains after restaurant operating costs such as food and labor. Rising sales with a steady or improving margin would show that customer demand and cost control are supporting profit together. Falling sales or a narrowing margin would point to demand, costs such as beef and labor, or both still weighing on the restaurants. Together, the figures show whether established locations are improving the business, not just bringing in more sales.
Texas Roadhouse, Inc. earningsTXRH
Texas Roadhouse’s report will show whether diners are choosing its lower-priced steak meals, a concrete value comparison for ONE Group’s upscale STK.
Read Texas Roadhouse’s restaurant sales in light of its lower-priced steak meals. Strong sales would show that diners are still choosing steak at a more moderate price, making the value comparison with STK more immediate. Weak sales would offer less evidence that this lower-priced option is drawing diners, but would not prove they are going to STK instead. The report helps show how strongly the two price points are attracting steak customers.
GEN Restaurant Group, Inc. earningsGENK
GEN Restaurant Group’s report will show how diners respond to its fixed-price, interactive Korean barbecue, an alternative to the shared dining occasion Benihana serves.
Read GEN Restaurant Group’s restaurant sales alongside its fixed-price Korean barbecue, which diners cook themselves. Strong sales would show that this interactive group-meal option is attracting customers and that Benihana faces a more compelling alternative for similar occasions. Weak sales would suggest less pull from this competitor, but would not prove that diners chose Benihana instead. The report measures the appeal of GEN’s format, not Benihana’s own results.
Retail Sales MoM (Oct)
For ONE Group, retail sales track consumer spending, including at food services and drinking places; because owned-restaurant food and beverage sales generate most of its revenue, that spending can affect what customers buy and restaurant sales.
Stronger retail sales, especially at food services and drinking places, point to firmer consumer spending that may support ONE Group restaurant sales; weaker sales point to softer spending that may weigh on them.
Darden Restaurants, Inc. earningsDRI
Darden’s Fine Dining segment includes steakhouses that compete with STK, so its report will show how demand is holding up in that upscale market.
Focus on Darden’s Fine Dining segment, not total company sales; it includes Ruth’s Chris and The Capital Grille, which compete with STK. Strong segment sales would show that diners are still spending at upscale steakhouses, supporting demand in STK’s competitive market. Weak sales would point to softer demand across that category. The report describes the market around STK, not STK’s own performance.
