Company

Company overview

Advertisers pay System1, Inc. to reach people whose searches and online activity signal interest in their offerings. Its Marketing business generates most of its revenue: System1 buys internet traffic and uses its platform to match users with advertising. Network partners also bring traffic to the platform and share in the advertising revenue. Search activity and responses to ads help System1 decide which traffic to acquire and which ads to show.

System1 also owns consumer websites, including private search engine Startpage, coupon site CouponFollow and navigation service MapQuest. These Products businesses mainly attract users organically rather than through paid advertising, then earn revenue from those visits.

The business depends on acquiring traffic at a cost that leaves room to earn money and delivering users whom advertisers value. Google is its largest advertising partner, supplying paid search listings and sharing the resulting revenue. Google has terminated one of its two paid-search agreements; the other remains in effect. Continued access requires System1 and its partners to follow Google's policies. Privacy and data-protection laws also limit how System1 can collect, use and share the user data that helps its platform select advertising.

  • System1 depends on Alphabet’s Google for paid search listings that it displays for a share of advertising revenue, while competing with Google’s advertising platforms and search sites. Google supplied 67% of System1’s 2025 revenue and terminated one search agreement effective February 10, 2026, making partnership news especially important.

  • Taboola.com Ltd. competes with System1 by using signals of consumer intent to place advertisers’ ads on digital properties and sharing the proceeds with those sites. Watch Taboola’s revenue from clicks and purchases on partner sites; unlike System1’s search-based data, its targeting works outside search and social without search queries or social profiles.

  • Ziff Davis, Inc. competes with System1’s publishing sites and CouponFollow for customers paying for advertising and campaigns tied to consumer actions. Its Digital Media advertising and performance-marketing revenue is the relevant comparison, rather than its subscription and licensing businesses.

  • Teads Holding Co. competes with System1 in matching consumer interests with advertisers and turning publisher traffic into advertising revenue. Watch the business in which advertisers pay Teads to buy publishers’ ad space by the click or per thousand impressions—the same charging models System1 uses to monetize traffic.

  • Microsoft both pays System1 under a paid-search partnership and sells it search ads to attract users, while also competing with its advertising technology. Microsoft is System1’s next-largest advertising partner after Google, so watch its search agreement, which was in effect through December 31, 2026 and allows early termination in certain circumstances.

  • People Incorporated competes with System1’s publishing and shopping sites for advertising and performance-marketing revenue in topics such as health, travel and finance. Watch its Digital advertising revenue and commissions from content referrals that lead to purchases, rather than its print magazine revenue.

  • Viant Technology Inc. competes with System1 to help marketers reach audiences and improve digital campaigns; marketers and agencies pay to use Viant’s platform to plan, buy and measure ads. Watch agency campaign activity: its customers generally need not commit spending, and campaigns can typically be reduced or canceled.

  • Nexxen International Ltd. competes with System1 on both sides of digital advertising: helping buyers reach consumers and publishers earn money from traffic. Its fees from brands, agencies and publishers are the revenue to watch, with charges based on advertising spend, flat fees or fixed rates per thousand impressions.

Google’s report will show how search advertising monetizes and how its partnerships are evolving, a key signal for System1 because Google supplies paid listings behind most of its revenue.

    Fed Interest Rate Decision

System1’s Fed-linked borrowing costs matter because its term loan and revolver carry interest tied to SOFR, a short-term borrowing rate, so rate changes can alter what the company pays lenders.
