Most of Resideo Technologies’ revenue comes from ADI Global Distribution, which supplies professional installers, dealers and systems integrators with security and audiovisual equipment for homes and commercial buildings. ADI buys products from other manufacturers and resells them alongside its exclusive brands and services. Its business depends on access to the branded products that customers specify for their installation jobs.
Resideo’s Products and Solutions business makes heating and cooling controls, smoke and carbon monoxide detectors, and other home comfort and security products under brands including Honeywell Home and First Alert. It sells through professional and retail channels and supplies components to manufacturers of water heaters, heat pumps and boilers. Several large customers, particularly equipment manufacturers, contribute significantly to revenue. Honeywell licenses the Honeywell Home brand to Resideo; that agreement can end for material noncompliance or a change of control not approved by Honeywell, restricting some potential transactions.
Demand depends partly on new construction and repair-and-remodel work. Both businesses rely on outside suppliers, including some with few or no alternatives. Resideo plans to spin off ADI as an independent public company, leaving Products and Solutions as Resideo, but completion remains subject to approvals and other conditions.
The risk section is the longest, dullest part of the filing. This keeps only what can really hurt you: where it hits, how hard, when it plays out.
Every company claims an edge. Each one is checked against hard numbers like margins and returns: which hold, and which line gives way first.
Alarm.com competes with Resideo for professional service providers selling connected security, cameras, thermostats and property controls. Watch its revenue from partners that resell its services and pay monthly fees, alongside camera and smart-thermostat sales, for a view of this shared market.
NAPCO competes with Resideo for distributors, dealers and installers buying intrusion alarms, fire alarms, video and connected-security products. Its equipment sales offer a closer comparison with Resideo’s security products than its recurring communication-services revenue does.
Madison Air competes with Resideo in healthy-air systems for customers seeking home comfort and better indoor air quality. Watch Madison Air’s Residential sales rather than its larger Commercial business when comparing it with Resideo’s Air revenue.
Resideo depends on Honeywell for the right to use the Honeywell Home trademark and licensed intellectual property, even as both sell overlapping building-automation and security technology. Watch Honeywell’s news on that license and its Building Automation business for developments relevant to Resideo.
Watts competes with Resideo for professional-channel buyers of water-control and leak-protection products used in residential and commercial buildings.
Universal Electronics competes with Resideo in thermostats and connected climate controls sold to heating and cooling equipment makers and building-system customers. Watch its smart-thermostat and climate-control sales to equipment manufacturers, utilities, hospitality customers and multi-dwelling-unit system integrators for the relevant competitive picture.
Housing Starts (Sep)
New-home construction tracks building activity, which can change builders’ and installers’ purchases of Resideo’s residential controls, safety, security and comfort products and ADI’s professionally installed products, affecting sales.
Expected1.31MLast release1.275M
If it comes in above expectations
If the reading is above the 1.31M estimate, it is above the previous 1.275M. More homes started or permitted than expected could lead builders and installers to buy more of these products, supporting Resideo’s and ADI’s sales; fewer could reduce their orders.
If it comes in below expectations
Fewer homes started or permitted than expected could lead builders and installers to buy less, reducing orders for Resideo’s residential products and ADI’s installed products; more could support orders.
Honeywell International, Inc. earningsHON
Honeywell’s report will show how its Building Automation business is doing and may reveal developments in the Honeywell Home license that Resideo relies on for products and brand rights.
Listen for updates on Honeywell’s Building Automation business and any change to the Honeywell Home license. Steady activity and a continuing license would support continuity in Resideo’s access to the brand and licensed technology; a business or license change could affect Resideo’s products and use of the brand. That is what the report can clarify about this dependency.
Madison Air Solutions Corporation earningsMAIR
Madison Air’s Residential sales will show whether demand is holding up in home comfort and indoor air quality, a market it shares with Resideo’s Air business.
Focus on Madison Air’s Residential sales, not its larger Commercial business. Stronger residential sales would suggest firmer demand for home-comfort and indoor-air-quality systems, supporting the market Resideo’s Air business serves. Weaker sales would suggest shared residential customers are cutting back. This is a read on the market, not proof of Resideo’s own results.
Napco Security Technologies, Inc earningsNSSC
Napco Security’s equipment sales will show whether distributors, dealers and installers are buying intrusion, fire and video-security products in the channel Resideo also serves.
Focus on equipment sales, rather than recurring communication-services revenue. Rising equipment sales would suggest distributors, dealers and installers are buying more of the products that compete with Resideo’s security products; falling sales would indicate weaker purchases in that shared channel. The comparison helps show whether channel demand is strengthening or fading.
Resideo Technologies, Inc. earningsThis company
Resideo’s report will show whether Products and Solutions is growing sales and operating income together, and whether ADI is turning higher revenue into more operating income.
Compare revenue and operating income in both segments, and check whether volume supports Products and Solutions. If that segment’s revenue and operating income rise together, price and mix are improving results without volume holding them back. If ADI’s revenue grows but operating income does not keep pace, distribution costs or expenses are absorbing the growth. Together, these figures show whether growth is producing stronger operating earnings.
Watts Water Technologies, Inc. earningsWTS
Watts Water’s sales of water-control and leak-protection products will show whether professional-channel buyers are still purchasing in a market Resideo’s Water products also serve.
Watch Watts Water’s sales of water-control and leak-protection products for residential and commercial buildings. Stronger sales would suggest professional-channel buyers are maintaining demand for products in Resideo’s Water market; weaker sales would point to less purchasing by those shared buyers. The report indicates the direction of the market Resideo serves.
Alarm.com Holdings, Inc. earningsALRM
Alarm.com’s partner-resold service revenue and sales of cameras and smart thermostats will show how professional providers are selling in the connected-security and property-controls market Resideo also competes in.
Read revenue from services resold by partners alongside camera and smart-thermostat sales. Growth in partner services with steady device sales would suggest providers can sustain both monthly-fee services and related equipment sales, a stronger signal for the connected market Resideo shares. Weakness in either points to pressure in that part of the market and shows which route is faltering.
Universal Electronics Inc earningsUEIC
Universal Electronics’ smart-thermostat and climate-control sales to equipment makers and building-system customers will show whether buyers in a market Resideo serves are still ordering.
Watch sales of smart thermostats and climate controls to equipment makers, utilities, hospitality customers and multi-dwelling-unit system integrators. Stronger sales would indicate firmer orders from buyers in a market Resideo serves; weaker sales would suggest those shared customers are ordering less. This is evidence about the customer market, not Resideo’s own orders.
Industrial Production MoM (Oct)
Industrial production tracks factory, mine and utility output, which can change OEMs’ purchases of Resideo components and ADI customers’ purchases of professionally installed products, affecting sales.
Stronger factory, mine and utility output points to firmer potential demand for industrial goods and inputs, which may support OEM purchases of Resideo components and ADI customer orders; weaker output points to softer potential demand.
