Company

Company overview

Napco Security Technologies, Inc supplies equipment that secures doors, controls entry and detects intrusion or fire. Independent distributors, dealers and installers buy its products for homes, businesses and other buildings. Equipment sales contribute slightly more revenue than communication services, with door locks—including Alarm Lock and Marks USA products—making up most equipment revenue.

After dealers install and activate devices such as StarLink cellular communicators, they pay monthly fees for cellular and cloud connectivity through NAPCO’s Networx Operations Center. These services keep installed alarm devices connected and account for nearly as much revenue as equipment sales. Subscriptions run month to month, so service income depends on devices remaining active and customers continuing to pay.

NAPCO relies on independent sellers to place its equipment and activate new devices; it generally has no long-term distributor agreements. It also makes most products at its Dominican Republic factory and has not identified an alternative factory to replace that capacity.

  • Alarm.com competes with NAPCO for independent security installers and service providers that buy connected devices and pay recurring fees for cloud services. Watch Alarm.com’s monthly service revenue from partners serving residential and commercial property owners for a read on this competing subscription business.

  • Resideo competes with NAPCO in professionally installed intrusion, fire-safety and connected security products sold for residential and commercial buildings. Its safety and security products and ADI’s sales of professionally installed security equipment are more relevant to NAPCO than its heating and cooling controls.

  • Ooma’s AirDial competes with NAPCO’s alarm communicators to replace legacy telephone-line connections; customers buy or rent Ooma devices and generally pay monthly for service, while NAPCO collects equipment payments and monthly fees from installers. Watch AirDial’s progress in these replacements, which overlap with the fire-alarm communicator installations driving NAPCO’s new service activations.

  • Honeywell competes with NAPCO for building-security spending through offerings that overlap with NAPCO’s alarms, access controls and connected security products, but its aerospace, industrial and energy businesses make group results a less direct comparison. Watch building-security developments, including Honeywell Forge’s use of building data for security, rather than total Honeywell sales.

    Fed Interest Rate Decision

For NAPCO, the Fed’s policy-rate decision matters because it can change borrowing costs and the housing and commercial construction activity that drives demand for its intrusion alarms and door-locking products.
