Company

Company overview

Remitly Global lets customers send money abroad through its app, website or messaging services. Individuals regularly send money to family and friends, while businesses use it to pay contractors, vendors and employees. Payment processors collect the sender’s funds, and local payout partners deliver the money to recipients through bank deposits, mobile wallets or cash pickup.

Nearly all revenue comes from this money-transfer service. Senders pay transaction fees, and Remitly also earns the difference between the exchange rate it offers customers and the rate at which it buys currency. Existing customers making repeat transfers drive most of the money sent. Customers mainly send from the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom and other European countries; transfers to India, Mexico and the Philippines account for a substantial share of revenue.

Remitly depends on payment and payout partners to complete transfers and relies heavily on a single cloud provider to run its service. It must maintain local financial-services licenses and comply with anti-money-laundering and other requirements. In some jurisdictions, it must segregate customer funds and hold eligible assets sufficient to cover them.

Remitly’s results hinge on recurring cross-border remittances and winning customers from rivals such as MoneyGram, which is missing from this list.

  • Wise Group plc competes with Remitly for people and businesses sending money abroad digitally, and explicitly names Remitly as a rival. Watch customer growth and cross-border payment volumes in Wise Account and Wise Business for signs of competition for the senders who pay Remitly transfer fees and the difference between its customer and currency-purchase exchange rates.

  • Western Union competes with Remitly for consumers paying to send money across borders, so its transfer pricing and service changes matter to Remitly’s customer retention. Watch its Consumer Money Transfer revenue, which accounted for 87% of total revenue in 2025, rather than treating all its businesses as a measure of remittance demand.

  • International Money Express, Inc. (Intermex) competes with Remitly for consumers sending money from North America to Mexico and other Latin American countries; both earn sender fees and currency-exchange spreads. Watch Intermex’s remittance business in Mexico, one of Remitly’s largest receiving countries by send volume, for demand and competition in that market.

  • Euronet Worldwide competes with Remitly through its Money Transfer business, which moves money across borders and exchanges currencies for consumers and businesses. Watch that segment’s revenue—it represented approximately 42% of Euronet’s total in 2025—rather than its ATM or retail payment-product businesses when assessing competition for Remitly.

  • Payoneer overlaps with Remitly’s expansion into business payments: small and medium-sized businesses pay Payoneer to receive international payments, manage currencies and pay suppliers, while Remitly helps businesses pay contractors, vendors and employees. Watch Payoneer’s supplier-payment business for competition in the higher-value business transfers Remitly is pursuing.

  • IDT Corporation’s BOSS Money competes directly with Remitly for money-transfer customers, though it sits within a smaller segment of IDT’s broader fintech and communications business. Watch BOSS Money’s customer acquisition and retention rather than IDT’s total revenue: IDT says its weaker brand recognition than Remitly and other larger rivals can make both harder.
