Legend Biotech’s only approved product is CARVYKTI, a treatment for multiple myeloma developed with Janssen. It collects a patient’s T cells, genetically modifies and grows them, then supplies the resulting treatment for that patient. Its other cell therapies remain in development.
Most revenue comes from Legend’s share of CARVYKTI sales. Outside Greater China, Janssen sells the treatment to customers, and Legend receives a share of those sales under their collaboration. The companies also share development, manufacturing and commercialization costs and profits or losses. Legend has the larger share in Greater China, where it handles sales booking, regulatory activities and pricing approval. Janssen also pays Legend when agreed development, regulatory, manufacturing or sales milestones are achieved.
The business relies heavily on Janssen’s marketing and sales efforts, payor coverage and the ability to deliver patient-specific treatments. Cell collection, shipping, manufacturing and testing must stay coordinated and preserve each patient’s material identity. CARVYKTI can be marketed only for locally approved uses; its U.S. approval covers eligible adults whose multiple myeloma has relapsed or resisted treatment after prior therapy, not front-line use.
The risk section is the longest, dullest part of the filing. This keeps only what can really hurt you: where it hits, how hard, when it plays out.
Every company claims an edge. Each one is checked against hard numbers like margins and returns: which hold, and which line gives way first.
Legend’s results hinge on CARVYKTI sales and manufacturing with Janssen; Arcellx, absent from this list, is an important BCMA cell-therapy rival partnered with Kite.
Legend depends on Johnson & Johnson’s Janssen to jointly sell CARVYKTI, buy Legend-made cilta-cel and supply key manufacturing inputs. Watch CARVYKTI sales and production: the partners split costs and pre-tax profits or losses equally outside Greater China, and CARVYKTI collaboration revenue supplies most of Legend’s revenue.
Bristol Myers Squibb competes directly for CARVYKTI’s multiple-myeloma patients with Abecma, another CAR-T cell therapy targeting BCMA. Its Abecma sales are the relevant business to watch, rather than its broader medicines portfolio.
Legend relies on Novartis to manufacture CARVYKTI, while Novartis also pays for rights to develop and sell Legend’s DLL-3 CAR-T programs, including LB2102, and reimburses agreed trial costs. Watch CARVYKTI supply and LB2102’s U.S. Phase 1 progress: Legend recognizes license revenue as that trial proceeds, with further payments tied to milestones and potential product sales.
Gilead Sciences poses a potential direct challenge to CARVYKTI through Kite’s work with Arcellx on BCMA-targeting cell therapies for multiple myeloma. For Legend holders, those programs’ development progress matters more than Gilead’s broader medicines business.
Pfizer’s BCMA-directed multiple-myeloma treatments compete for patients who might otherwise receive Legend’s CARVYKTI. Watch that treatment portfolio rather than Pfizer’s overall drug sales when assessing competitive pressure on Legend.
GSK’s BCMA-targeted multiple-myeloma therapies offer patients an alternative to Legend’s CARVYKTI cell therapy. Progress in those therapies is the part of GSK’s medicines business that bears on CARVYKTI’s competitive position.
AstraZeneca competes with Legend’s CARVYKTI through Gracell-derived multiple-myeloma cell-therapy programs targeting BCMA or two targets. Watch development of those programs, including its clinical-stage CD19/BCMA CAR-T candidate, rather than sales of its other cancer drugs.
Caribou Biosciences, Inc. is developing CB-011 for relapsed or refractory multiple myeloma, targeting the same BCMA marker as Legend’s CARVYKTI, but it remains investigational. Its CaMMouflage Phase 1 trial is the concrete progress to watch for this potential competitor.
Regeneron Pharmaceuticals’ BCMA-directed bispecific program offers a different treatment approach for the multiple-myeloma patients served by Legend’s CARVYKTI. Development news from that program, rather than its eye-drug sales, is what matters for Legend’s competitive outlook.
Autolus Therapeutics plc is a potential multiple-myeloma cell-therapy competitor identified by Legend, although its marketed AUCATZYL treats adults with relapsed or refractory B-cell precursor acute lymphoblastic leukemia, not CARVYKTI’s disease. Its AUCATZYL launch also offers a window into CAR-T pricing and adoption: Autolus has held back its EU launch while assessing pricing and market-entry feasibility.
Novartis AG earningsNVS
Novartis’s report can shed light on its CARVYKTI manufacturing support and the LB2102 trial, which connect to Legend Biotech’s product supply and license revenue.
Separate Novartis’s CARVYKTI manufacturing support from progress in the U.S. Phase 1 LB2102 trial. Reliable supply supports Legend Biotech’s main product revenue; trial progress lets Legend recognize license revenue as it performs the agreed work. Supply problems or slow trial progress would weigh on those respective streams. Milestone payments and future product sales depend on later conditions, not trial progress alone.
Bristol-Myers Squibb Co. earningsBMY
Bristol Myers Squibb’s report will show Abecma sales; this BCMA-targeted CAR-T competes with Legend Biotech’s CARVYKTI for multiple-myeloma patients.
Watch Bristol Myers Squibb’s reported Abecma sales, not its overall drug revenue. Stronger sales would show commercial demand for another BCMA-targeted CAR-T in the same multiple-myeloma market, increasing direct competition for CARVYKTI. Weak sales would show limited commercial traction for this rival, but would not prove patients are choosing CARVYKTI instead.
Legend Biotech Corporation earningsThis company
Legend Biotech’s report will show whether growth in CARVYKTI collaboration revenue is helping narrow the company’s operating loss.
Read CARVYKTI collaboration revenue alongside the operating loss. If revenue rises as the loss narrows, sales led by Johnson & Johnson are covering more of Legend Biotech’s costs. If revenue rises but the loss widens, costs are absorbing the added contribution, leaving the business further from supporting its operations through its main revenue stream.
