Company

Company overview

IREN provides computing capacity for customers that need to train AI models or run them to produce answers and predictions. It owns and operates the data centers, computing hardware and software behind these services. Customers can use dedicated GPU servers directly or have IREN manage the cloud service. They primarily reserve capacity under multi-year contracts, sometimes paying in advance; service revenue generally starts once the equipment is ready for use and, where required, the customer accepts it. Microsoft and NVIDIA together account for a substantial majority of contracted AI revenue, rather than revenue already earned.

Bitcoin mining has supplied most of IREN’s revenue. It contributes computing power to the Bitcoin network, earns a share of block rewards and transaction fees, and typically sells the Bitcoin daily for cash. That income depends on Bitcoin prices, its share of the network’s computing power and electricity costs. Mining continues while IREN removes mining hardware and redirects power and data-center capacity to AI services.

Delivering the AI capacity requires substantial funding, reliable electricity and GPUs from a limited supplier base, including NVIDIA. Facilities need construction and operating permits, and grid-connection approvals govern when capacity can come online. Texas grid reviews can delay connections or change how much power projects receive.

  • CoreWeave competes with IREN for AI labs’ and enterprises’ long-term spending on cloud computing, software and managed services. Watch its committed contracts for evidence of how much AI capacity these customers are willing to reserve.

  • Nebius Group competes with IREN to sell customers GPU computing, storage and managed services for AI training and inference. Its on-demand AI cloud offers a comparison for the shorter-duration services IREN plans to add alongside reserved capacity.

  • Microsoft pays IREN for dedicated computing capacity while its Azure cloud competes for AI customers. After Microsoft accepted Horizon 1 in August 2026, watch acceptance of Horizon 2–4: IREN’s revenue depends on turning contracted capacity into delivered, accepted services.

  • IREN depends on NVIDIA’s computing chips and networking to provide AI cloud capacity to customers, and the companies are partnering on large-scale infrastructure deployment. Watch delivery of new GPU generations, which helps determine when IREN can put new computing capacity into service.

  • WhiteFiber, Inc. competes with IREN by combining owned data centers with GPU cloud services sold to AI and machine-learning developers. Its GPU cloud business offers a comparison for whether owning the power and facilities helps retain more of the revenue from AI training and inference.

  • Cipher Digital and IREN are turning powered sites from Bitcoin mining toward serving AI customers, making their results sensitive to both mining economics and AI infrastructure demand. Watch Cipher’s facilities for hyperscaler tenants as a comparison for converting access to power into paying AI customers.

  • Core Scientific and IREN are adapting mining infrastructure for power-intensive AI computing, but Core Scientific sells data-center space and supporting infrastructure rather than IREN’s integrated GPU cloud service. Watch its conversion of mining facilities into AI customer capacity for a comparison on electrical and cooling execution.

  • TeraWulf leases AI-ready data-center infrastructure to the hyperscalers and enterprises IREN targets with dedicated computing capacity. Its customer leases typically have 10- to 25-year base terms, offering a contrast to IREN’s GPU and data-center leases of approximately three to five years.

  • Applied Digital competes with IREN for long-term commitments from hyperscalers and other computing customers, supplying dedicated capacity in high-density AI facilities. Watch its power connections and facility energization: those are also prerequisites for IREN to deliver contracted capacity.

  • HIVE Digital Technologies Ltd. and IREN both earn from mining computing power and AI customer workloads while repurposing mining facilities for AI. Watch HIVE’s upgrades for high-density GPUs and liquid cooling as a comparison for the work needed to turn mining sites into enterprise AI infrastructure.

  • Bitdeer and IREN both mine Bitcoin for rewards and sell AI cloud services, linking them to mining profitability and customers’ computing demand. Read Bitdeer’s self-mining revenue separately from its AI business when comparing it with IREN’s shift toward AI.

  • Hut 8 and IREN both control power and digital infrastructure whose returns depend on putting capacity to productive computing use. Hut 8’s choice of computing uses for each powered site offers a comparison for IREN’s decisions about where to deploy AI capacity for paying customers.

  • Keel Infrastructure Corp. offers a comparison for IREN’s move from mining infrastructure to long-term AI computing contracts, but its customer revenue is still prospective. Keel had no HPC infrastructure revenue as of December 31, 2025 and expects initial data-center revenue in 2027; watch whether planned leases become paying capacity.

  • Riot Platforms and IREN earn Bitcoin rewards from large mining fleets, so network computing power and electricity costs affect both businesses’ mining returns. Watch Riot’s Bitcoin production alongside fleet capacity for a comparison with IREN’s remaining mining operations.

  • CleanSpark and IREN both use mined Bitcoin to help fund operations and capital spending, tying that funding to mining economics. Unlike IREN’s usual daily sales, CleanSpark also holds Bitcoin and uses Bitcoin-linked contracts to generate liquidity, so distinguish mining performance from how it monetizes the coins.

  • MARA Holdings shares IREN’s exposure to Bitcoin prices, network computing power and power costs through large mining fleets, though IREN is moving infrastructure toward AI services. MARA’s Bitcoin production is a comparison for IREN’s mining business, not its contracted AI cloud revenue.

  • Ionic Digital Inc. and IREN are replacing mining operations with long-term income from AI infrastructure, though Ionic leases powered assets rather than selling integrated GPU cloud services. Watch payments under Ionic’s Nscale lease at Ward County as a concrete comparison for turning a former mining site into recurring customer revenue.

  • IREN buys servers and supporting infrastructure from Dell Technologies to bring successive generations of AI computing capacity online for customers. Watch Dell’s AI-server delivery news, because equipment availability is one factor governing when IREN can commission capacity and begin earning revenue.

  • Oracle competes with IREN to sell cloud computing capacity for customers’ AI workloads. Its cloud infrastructure offering is the relevant comparison for IREN, rather than Oracle’s hardware and services businesses.

  • Amazon’s AWS competes with IREN for enterprises and AI developers buying cloud computing capacity. Watch the AWS segment rather than Amazon’s retail businesses when comparing demand for the workloads IREN serves.

  • Alphabet’s Google Cloud competes with IREN to sell customers computing capacity for AI training and inference. Google Cloud’s segment results are the relevant comparison, rather than Google’s advertising revenue or Alphabet’s centralized AI research spending.
