Axsome Therapeutics’ business centers on AUVELITY, a treatment for major depressive disorder in adults that supplies most of its revenue. It also sells SUNOSI for excessive daytime sleepiness associated with obstructive sleep apnea or narcolepsy, and SYMBRAVO for acute migraine treatment in adults.
Distributors buy these drugs from Axsome in the United States. The company also sells SUNOSI through Canadian distributors and supplies it to Pharmanovia for resale in licensed overseas markets, earning royalties on Pharmanovia’s sales. A few large distributors account for most product sales, while demand depends partly on whether government programs and commercial insurers cover the medicines and how much they pay.
Axsome outsources all manufacturing, so it depends on outside suppliers to deliver drugs that meet regulatory standards. It may promote its medicines only for approved uses; SUNOSI also faces controlled-substance rules governing its handling and distribution. Axsome is developing additional medicines and uses for existing drugs, but other candidates cannot generate product revenue until they obtain regulatory approval and reach the market.
The risk section is the longest, dullest part of the filing. This keeps only what can really hurt you: where it hits, how hard, when it plays out.
Every company claims an edge. Each one is checked against hard numbers like margins and returns: which hold, and which line gives way first.
Axsome’s results hinge chiefly on AUVELITY adoption and new indications, making Otsuka and Lundbeck’s Rexulti an important depression and Alzheimer’s agitation competitor to watch outside this list.
Johnson & Johnson’s Spravato and CAPLYTA compete with Axsome’s AUVELITY for psychiatrists’ depression prescriptions; uptake of these medicines helps gauge the competition AUVELITY faces.
AbbVie competes with two Axsome medicines: it sells Vraylar as an add-on depression treatment against AUVELITY, and Ubrelvy for acute migraine against SYMBRAVO.
Harmony Biosciences’ WAKIX competes with Axsome’s SUNOSI for narcolepsy-related daytime sleepiness and with its AXS-12 development program. Harmony sells WAKIX through specialty distributors, making its WAKIX sales a window into competition for these patients.
Jazz Pharmaceuticals sells Xywav and Xyrem, which compete with Axsome’s SUNOSI for a place in narcolepsy treatment regimens and insurer coverage. Watch Jazz’s coverage and treatment-regimen updates, not just sales: changes there also shape SUNOSI’s competition.
Xenon Pharmaceuticals could bring a new rival to Axsome’s AUVELITY through azetukalner, now in Phase 3 development for major depressive disorder. Xenon has no product-sales revenue, so its depression trial results—not drug sales—are the signal to watch.
Neumora Therapeutics is developing treatments for both depression and Alzheimer’s agitation, overlapping AUVELITY’s current market and Axsome’s planned expansion. With no approved or commercialized products through December 2025, its clinical progress is the relevant competitive signal.
Definium Therapeutics’ Phase 3 DT120 depression program could compete with Axsome’s AUVELITY, though it uses a different, psychedelic treatment model. Beyond trial results, watch the required U.S. change in controlled-substance classification: even FDA approval would not by itself allow prescribing.
COMPASS Pathways’ investigational COMP360 targets treatment-resistant depression, where Axsome’s AUVELITY can also be prescribed. If approved, COMPASS plans to market its psilocybin treatment to U.S. healthcare providers and clinic networks, making progress toward approval the thing to watch.
Alto Neuroscience’s depression treatments could compete with Axsome’s marketed AUVELITY if approved. Alto uses patient data to identify likely treatment responders, so watch whether its depression trials support that approach before treating it as a commercial rival.
Pfizer sells Nurtec ODT and Zavzpret against Axsome’s SYMBRAVO in migraine, but also licensed Axsome the drug rights and research data underpinning AXS-12 and AXS-14. Axsome owes Pfizer milestone payments and royalties if the licensed programs meet the agreement’s development and sales conditions.
Tonix Pharmaceuticals sells Zembrace SymTouch and Tosymra against Axsome’s SYMBRAVO for acute migraine, and TONMYA for adult fibromyalgia, the market Axsome is targeting with AXS-14. TONMYA’s sales after its November 2025 U.S. launch offer a view of adoption in that prospective market.
Fed Interest Rate Decision
Axsome’s Fed-linked SOFR loans reprice with interest rates, so a higher cost of borrowing means more cash paid to lenders and less available for its medicine development and commercialization.
Expected4.0%Last release4.0%
If it comes in above expectations
Higher rates can raise interest on Axsome’s SOFR-based loans, leaving less cash for clinical development and selling AUVELITY, SUNOSI and SYMBRAVO.
If it comes in below expectations
Lower rates can reduce interest on Axsome’s SOFR-based loans, leaving more cash available for clinical development and selling its medicines.
ABBVIE INC. earningsABBV
AbbVie’s report will show demand for Vraylar and Ubrelvy, offering a read on competition facing AUVELITY and SYMBRAVO.
Watch AbbVie’s disclosures on demand for Vraylar and Ubrelvy. Stronger demand would show these drugs remain competitive in depression and acute migraine, increasing the competition AUVELITY and SYMBRAVO face for prescriptions; weaker demand would suggest less pressure from these rivals, not prove Axsome’s sales rose.
Axsome Therapeutics, Inc earningsThis company
Axsome Therapeutics’ report will show whether sales growth from AUVELITY, SUNOSI and newly launched SYMBRAVO is narrowing its loss.
Read net sales for the three products alongside the company’s net loss. Broader sales growth with a further-narrowing loss would show product revenue covering more of commercialization and development costs. Growth concentrated in fewer products, or a loss that does not narrow as sales rise, would show revenue is not yet easing that burden.
Harmony Biosciences Holdings, Inc. earningsHRMY
Harmony Biosciences’ report will show WAKIX sales, a direct read on competition for patients and prescriptions also sought by SUNOSI.
Watch the change in WAKIX sales. Rising sales would show WAKIX gaining ground for patients and prescriptions for narcolepsy-related daytime sleepiness, increasing pressure on SUNOSI; falling sales would suggest a less forceful rival, but would not establish SUNOSI’s sales.
