Adecoagro combines farming with industrial processing in Argentina, Brazil and Uruguay. Farming and Brazilian sugarcane processing account for most revenue. Its Brazilian mills turn cane into sugar sold domestically and abroad, and ethanol sold to Brazilian fuel distributors. They burn the fibrous residue, called bagasse, to power the mills and sell surplus electricity. The mills can shift production between sugar and ethanol as relative prices change.
In Argentina and Uruguay, Adecoagro grows crops, processes rice and produces dairy products, using both its own agricultural output and supplies bought from other producers. It sells to processors, export buyers and retailers; rice sales are mainly exports, while dairy sales are mainly domestic. Its dairy brands include Las Tres Niñas, Apóstoles and Angelita.
The acquisition of Profertil added fertilizer manufacturing in Argentina. Its Bahía Blanca plant uses natural gas to produce mainly granular urea, sold largely in Argentina through a small group of large accounts and wholesale distributors. Gas supply and transportation are secured through long-term, fixed-price contracts, while urea selling prices generally reflect the cost of imports.
The business depends on harvest volumes and market prices, which Adecoagro generally cannot set. Most sugarcane grows on land held through agricultural partnerships, making continued access to that land important to mill supply. Sugar sales depend heavily on Louis Dreyfus Commodities Suisse, Viterra and BTG Pactual, and a small group of buyers takes most ethanol sales. Brazilian ethanol production and sales require ANP authorization, and mandatory blending into gasoline supports demand.
The risk section is the longest, dullest part of the filing. This keeps only what can really hurt you: where it hits, how hard, when it plays out.
Every company claims an edge. Each one is checked against hard numbers like margins and returns: which hold, and which line gives way first.
Adecoagro’s earnings depend heavily on Brazilian sugar and ethanol margins, making locally listed rivals Raizen and São Martinho important comparisons missing from this list.
Petrobras supplies Adecoagro’s Brazilian gasoline, diesel and certain other petroleum inputs, while its gasoline competes with Adecoagro’s ethanol for flex-fuel motorists. Watch Petrobras’s domestic gasoline prices: lower prices can weaken demand for Adecoagro’s ethanol, all of which was sold in Brazil in 2025.
CF Industries competes with Adecoagro for fertilizer demand; both use natural gas to make ammonia and granular urea sold for agricultural use. CF Industries’ granular urea gross margin is a useful comparison for Adecoagro’s fertilizer business, whose main product is granular urea.
Nutrien competes with Adecoagro in the international urea market, with both manufacturing nitrogen fertilizers for agricultural use. Watch Nutrien’s Nitrogen segment rather than its potash or retail businesses when comparing it with Adecoagro’s mainly granular-urea fertilizer sales.
Cresud SA competes with Adecoagro in farming and in improving farmland for sale, but its urban-property holdings make its overall results a less direct comparison. Its agricultural production and land transformation and sales segments are the relevant places to watch crop sales and gains from developed farms.
BrasilAgro and Adecoagro compete in South American crop production and both improve farmland before selling it to realize gains. BrasilAgro’s developed-property sales offer a closer comparison for Adecoagro’s farmland-sale gains than crop revenue alone.
BP’s Brazilian sugarcane bioenergy business competes directly with Adecoagro by producing sugar and ethanol for sale.
Bunge’s acquired Viterra business buys substantial volumes of Adecoagro’s Brazilian export sugar, tying Bunge’s purchasing to Adecoagro’s sugar sales. Watch Viterra’s sugar purchases: it was one of three customers that together accounted for about 54% of Adecoagro’s sugar sales agreements in 2025.
Adecoagro’s Argentine ammonia and urea plant depends on gas transportation from TGS, which earns fees for moving customers’ gas rather than selling the gas itself. Watch TGS’s pipeline-service news: the plant consumes about 2.5 million cubic meters of natural gas a day, with supply and transportation secured under long-term fixed-price contracts.
YPF is one of the contracted energy counterparties supporting Adecoagro’s gas-intensive Argentine fertilizer plant; YPF produces and sells oil and gas, mainly in Argentina. For Adecoagro, watch YPF’s energy-supply news rather than spot gas prices alone: the plant’s gas supply and transportation are contracted at fixed prices, with payment obligations for contracted volumes even if unused.
YPF Sociedad Anonima earningsYPF
YPF’s gas production and supply matter to whether Adecoagro’s Argentine fertilizer plant can keep getting the fuel it needs to make ammonia and urea.
Watch YPF’s disclosures on gas production and supply, then set them against the contracted gas supply on which Adecoagro’s fertilizer plant depends. A stable supply picture eases concern about interruptions to urea production; a weaker one makes continuity more important to watch. Adecoagro has fixed-price contracts for gas supply and transport, so YPF’s report alone does not establish a change in Adecoagro’s contract price or delivered volumes.
Bunge Global SA earningsBG
Bunge’s report can show whether its Viterra business is still sourcing Brazilian export sugar, an important buyer channel for Adecoagro.
Watch for Bunge’s disclosures about Viterra’s sugar sourcing or purchasing plans, and compare them with Adecoagro’s reported export sugar sales and customer concentration. Continued or greater sourcing would support the importance of this buyer channel; weaker sourcing would leave Adecoagro more reliant on other buyers for its export sugar. Bunge’s overall results do not establish Adecoagro’s actual sales.
Transportadora de Gas del Sur S.A. earningsTGS
TGS transports natural gas, so its pipeline service can affect whether Adecoagro’s Argentine fertilizer plant receives the gas it needs to make fertilizer.
Watch TGS’s disclosures on pipeline service, transported volumes or constraints, and set them against Adecoagro’s fertilizer plant’s reliance on gas transportation. Steady service without notable constraints eases concern about an interruption; capacity or service problems would make continuity of fertilizer production more uncertain. A long-term fixed-price transport contract does not remove the risk of a service disruption.
BP p.l.c. earningsBP
BP’s Brazilian sugarcane business also makes sugar and ethanol, so its output and operating results can show whether competition for Adecoagro is intensifying.
Compare BP’s disclosed Brazilian sugar and ethanol output and operating results with Adecoagro’s sugar and ethanol sales and business results. Higher output or stronger results would point to a more capable competitor in the same markets; weaker activity could ease that pressure. Sugar and ethanol prices and harvest conditions affect both businesses, so BP’s report alone cannot establish a change in Adecoagro’s sales.
CF Industries Holding, Inc. earningsCF
CF Industries’ granular urea gross margin—the selling price less direct costs—offers a market comparison for Adecoagro’s fertilizer business, which mainly sells urea.
Compare CF Industries’ reported granular urea gross margin with Adecoagro’s fertilizer sales and operating results. A stronger CF margin means the gap between urea selling prices and direct costs is more favorable; a weaker margin flags pressure on that spread. Gas costs, location and customers differ, so CF’s result signals market conditions but cannot substitute for Adecoagro’s own fertilizer performance.
PETROLEO BRASILEIRO S.A.-PETROBRAS earningsPBR
Petrobras’s domestic gasoline prices can influence flex-fuel drivers’ choice between gasoline and ethanol, which matters to Adecoagro’s ethanol sales in Brazil.
Read Petrobras’s reported domestic gasoline prices alongside Adecoagro’s ethanol volumes and related selling prices. Higher gasoline prices can make ethanol more attractive to flex-fuel drivers and support demand; lower prices can weaken that appeal. Fuel policy and other market conditions also shape actual sales, so gasoline prices alone do not show that Adecoagro’s ethanol volumes have changed.
ADECOAGRO S.A. earningsThis company
After buying Profertil, Adecoagro has more debt to carry, and this report will show whether its sugar, ethanol, energy and fertilizer businesses are earning enough operating profit to help bear it.
Read operating results by business alongside net debt. If Sugar, Ethanol and Energy continues to contribute and Fertilizers adds to that, while net debt is stable or falling, operations are helping carry the debt from the acquisition. If operating contributions weaken as net debt rises, the debt still lacks support from business profits. A single quarter’s cash flow can swing with harvest timing and working capital, so it does not by itself establish ongoing debt-service capacity.
