Company

Company overview

AbCellera Biologics has shifted from mainly discovering antibodies for partners to developing its own antibody drug candidates. ABCL635 and ABCL575 are in early clinical trials, and most of its other candidates remain preclinical. It has no proprietary drug approved for sale. It may license its candidates to partners in exchange for upfront payments, payments as development progresses, and royalties on eventual sales; that income depends on the clinical evidence its programs produce.

It still works under existing research partnerships and takes on selected new collaborations. Partners pay it to find and evaluate antibodies, with AbCellera handing over antibody data or a drug candidate for further development. Research fees and licensing and royalty income provide most current revenue. Its patent settlement and license agreement with Bruker brought an upfront payment and provides future royalties on sales of Bruker’s Beacon Optofluidic platform products.

Much of the potential value in its drug partnerships lies in later milestone payments and sales royalties, rather than research fees. Those payments depend on partners continuing development, obtaining regulatory approval and selling resulting drugs—steps AbCellera does not control in partner-led programs. Its own candidates also need regulatory approval before they can be marketed.

AbCellera increasingly depends on clinical proof for its own drugs—including whether ABCL635 can stand apart from menopause treatments marketed by Astellas Pharma and Bayer—as well as successful development of its partnered antibodies.

  • OmniAb competes with AbCellera to help pharmaceutical partners discover antibodies, earning platform-access fees, milestone payments and potential royalties. Watch its partner-product royalties as a comparison for AbCellera’s reliance on drugs succeeding beyond discovery.

  • Absci offers a comparison for AbCellera’s move into its own drugs: both combine computation with laboratory testing to develop antibodies and seek pharmaceutical partners to take internally generated candidates forward. Watch Absci’s licensing deals for those candidates rather than its AI design speed alone.

  • Xencor competes with AbCellera in engineered antibodies, including drugs that bind multiple targets, and licenses candidates to pharmaceutical partners for upfront payments, milestones and royalties. Its deals for XmAb candidates offer a comparison for how AbCellera could turn its own antibody pipeline into revenue.

  • Prelude supplies AbCellera with licensed cancer-drug programs that attach protein-degrading molecules to antibodies; AbCellera pays for and fully controls their development, while Prelude may receive milestones and sales royalties. Their separate alliance also remains in place to jointly discover, develop and commercialize up to five such programs.

  • ImageneBio’s IMG-007 clinical results matter to AbCellera’s ABCL575 because both aim to interrupt the same immune-signaling pathway. IMG-007 blocks the OX40 receptor on activated T cells, whereas ABCL575 targets its binding partner OX40L, making the receptor-versus-ligand approach the comparison to watch.

  • Sanofi’s amlitelimab provides a direct clinical benchmark for AbCellera’s ABCL575 because both antibodies target OX40L. ImageneBio identifies amlitelimab as the most advanced drug in development targeting the OX40–OX40L pathway, making its trial evidence especially relevant to judging AbCellera’s program.

  • Genmab shows a more developed version of AbCellera’s mix of proprietary antibody drugs and licensing innovation to pharmaceutical partners for milestones and royalties. Its royalties from six partner-developed, commercialized medicines offer a concrete comparison for the downstream revenue AbCellera seeks.

  • Bruker’s Beacon screening-platform sales can generate royalties for AbCellera because Bruker licenses its patents under their December 2025 settlement, which also provided a $36 million upfront payment. Watch Beacon product sales in the covered market segments worldwide, although AbCellera says future royalty amounts and timing are unpredictable.

  • Recursion offers a comparison for AbCellera’s need to turn technology-discovered drugs into clinical evidence: both combine experimental data and computation to advance their own pipelines and programs for pharmaceutical partners. Watch the clinical progress of Recursion’s internally developed medicines, not just the capabilities of its discovery platform.

  • Regeneron has two roles for AbCellera: its marketed antibody treatments compete with ABCL575, while its discovery partnership gives AbCellera potential downstream payments. Separate news about those existing treatments from progress in AbCellera-discovered antibodies, where development milestones and eventual sales could generate revenue for AbCellera.

  • Rallybio shares drug-development work with AbCellera rather than simply buying discovery services: their alliance combines AbCellera’s antibody discovery with Rallybio’s rare-disease clinical and commercial expertise for up to five jointly selected targets. The first program focuses on rare metabolic diseases, making progress there the concrete collaboration to watch.

  • Twist Bioscience competes with AbCellera for pharmaceutical and biotechnology customers seeking antibody-discovery work. Twist also manufactures synthetic DNA, so its broad healthcare revenue should not be read as a measure of antibody-discovery demand alone.

  • Vistagen’s refisolone competes for the same treatment need as AbCellera’s ABCL635: non-hormonal relief of menopause-associated vasomotor symptoms, including hot flashes. Watch refisolone’s clinical results in that population; AbCellera has not yet established ABCL635’s proposed differentiation in a pivotal trial.

  • Evotec competes with AbCellera for outsourced drug-discovery and antibody-development work paid for by pharmaceutical customers. Its antibody-optimization services are the closest overlap; its broader services also extend through biologics manufacturing.

  • Denali’s development of partnered antibodies can affect AbCellera’s future milestones and royalties, with TAK-920/DNL919 listed in Phase 1 as of December 31, 2025. Watch that molecule’s progress rather than Denali’s separate licensing income, because AbCellera’s potential return depends on success of the antibodies it discovered.

  • Teva’s progress on an AbCellera-partnered neuroscience molecule could unlock milestone payments and, if it reaches commercial sales, royalties for AbCellera. The unnamed molecule was in Phase 1 as of December 31, 2025; its development updates are more directly relevant to AbCellera than Teva’s broad generic-medicine sales.
