Yelp Inc. runs a ratings-and-reviews platform where consumers find local businesses. Businesses buy Yelp Ads to reach those consumers, with sponsored placements on Yelp and third-party sites in the Yelp Ads Network. Most advertising revenue comes from charging for clicks, with prices set through automated auctions. Advertising supplies the vast majority of revenue, and service businesses, including home and auto services, contribute more than restaurants, retail and other categories. Almost all revenue comes from U.S. customers.
Smaller revenue sources include subscriptions to business tools such as Yelp Guest Manager, which helps venues manage operations, and fees for access to Yelp content and data.
The advertising business depends on useful, reliable reviews bringing consumers to Yelp and ads delivering results that businesses will pay for. Yelp relies substantially on small and medium-sized advertisers, many of which can cancel campaigns without penalty. Google is its largest source of website traffic, so changes in search placement affect its ability to attract consumers. Privacy and data-use rules also limit how Yelp can target ads and measure their results.
The risk section is the longest, dullest part of the filing. This keeps only what can really hurt you: where it hits, how hard, when it plays out.
Every company claims an edge. Each one is checked against hard numbers like margins and returns: which hold, and which line gives way first.
Yelp’s results increasingly hinge on Services advertising, making Angi and Thumbtack important competitors to watch even though neither appears in this list.
Alphabet’s Google is Yelp’s primary search rival: both connect consumers with local businesses and charge those businesses for ads designed to bring clicks and customers. Google’s AI search developments are especially relevant to this competition in Yelp’s strategically important Services categories.
QuinStreet competes with Yelp for home-services and financial-services businesses paying to acquire customers. Those clients pay QuinStreet for clicks, customer inquiries and other actions, while Yelp mainly charges advertisers per click; QuinStreet’s results in these two customer groups offer a view of demand for paid customer acquisition.
Meta Platforms’ Instagram competes with Yelp for people discovering local businesses and for the advertising budgets those businesses use to attract potential customers. Watch Instagram’s tools for finding businesses and generating customer inquiries, rather than treating Meta’s overall advertising results as a measure of Yelp’s market.
DoorDash competes with Yelp for restaurant advertising budgets and consumer attention, but also enables pickup and delivery orders through Yelp. DoorDash charges merchants transaction-based fees and sells them ads; its Yelp integration was Yelp’s largest transaction partnership by both volume and revenue, so the relationship matters beyond advertising competition.
Thryv Holdings competes with Yelp for small and medium-sized businesses paying for marketing and customer inquiries, although Thryv is shifting toward subscription software. Its planned exit from legacy Marketing Services by the end of 2028 makes that business’s results more relevant to the overlap with Yelp than Thryv’s total subscription revenue.
Tripadvisor competes with Yelp for people using consumer reviews to discover restaurants and other businesses, turning that audience into advertising and marketplace revenue. Yelp mainly earns from business advertisers, while Tripadvisor also earns commissions on completed experience bookings; its TheFork dining marketplace is the closer product to watch for restaurant discovery.
Reddit competes with Yelp for consumers seeking local-business recommendations and for businesses paying to reach them. Yelp builds discovery around business reviews, while Reddit places ads around users’ interests, communities and conversations, making local-business discussions and the ads beside them the relevant overlap.
Alphabet Inc. earningsGOOG
Google’s report on AI search and search advertising can show whether it is keeping more local discovery and ad activity on its own platform, increasing competition for Yelp.
Look for what Google says about AI search use and search-ad monetization. If both are growing, Google may be keeping more attention and ad spending from local searches on its platform, raising pressure on Yelp’s search-sourced traffic and its competition for Services advertisers. If progress appears limited, the report offers less evidence of an intensifying shift; it does not show that Yelp’s traffic improved, since Google does not report referrals to Yelp.
DoorDash, Inc. earningsDASH
DoorDash’s report will show how restaurant orders and ad demand are changing; it competes with Yelp for restaurant ad budgets and diners’ attention, while also enabling orders through Yelp.
Read DoorDash’s reported restaurant order activity alongside merchant ad demand. If both are strong, restaurants still have customers and advertising budgets, supporting the market for Yelp’s restaurant ads and pointing to an active setting for its ordering integration; if both weaken, restaurants may have less capacity to attract diners and advertise. DoorDash’s overall figures do not establish whether orders placed through Yelp rose or fell.
QuinStreet, Inc. earningsQNST
QuinStreet’s home-services and financial-services client activity offers a read on paid customer-acquisition demand among businesses that also advertise in Yelp’s Services categories.
Look at QuinStreet’s reported activity among home-services and financial-services clients, including demand for paid clicks or customer inquiries. If that demand strengthens, businesses in those fields are still paying to find customers, a supportive signal for Yelp’s Services ad budgets; if it weakens, those advertisers may be more cautious. QuinStreet’s acquisition services are not the same as Yelp’s pay-per-click ads, so its results cannot substitute for Yelp’s own Services figures.

Yelp earns most of its revenue from business advertising, and this report will show whether Services ads can offset weakness in Restaurants, Retail & Other.
Read Services and RR&O ad revenue alongside paying advertising locations, then check ad clicks and average cost per click. If Services revenue and paying locations hold up and clicks improve, service businesses are still buying ads and may be cushioning RR&O weakness; if both categories and paying locations weaken, a higher price per click may simply be offsetting fewer clicks, leaving advertiser demand under pressure.
