Company

Company overview

SunCar Technology Group helps banks, insurers and other businesses offer car services to their customers through rewards and loyalty programs. These enterprises buy service coupons from SunCar for services such as washing, maintenance and roadside assistance, which third-party providers deliver. SunCar charges a fixed price per service; some time-limited coupons also generate fees when they expire unused. Auto services are its largest revenue line, with insurance commissions close behind; together they account for most revenue.

For insurance, external sales partners bring car owners to SunCar’s online portal to obtain quotes and apply for policies. Insurance companies underwrite the coverage and pay SunCar commissions tied to policy premiums. SunCar pays its partners for successful sales and referrals. It also earns a smaller share of revenue from paid software and technology services, including developing insurance platforms embedded in the apps of automakers such as Xiaomi and ZEEKR.

The business depends on enterprise customers continuing to buy services, providers fulfilling those services, and insurers and referral partners continuing to support policy sales. A small number of major customers account for a substantial share of revenue, and large state-owned customers, particularly insurers, have strong bargaining power. Insurance earnings depend on policy sales, premium and commission rates, and referral costs. Chinese regulation governs premiums, commissions and sales practices; SunCar’s insurance-sales licenses allow it to act as an intermediary, not to create or modify insurance products.

SunCar depends on Chinese insurers’ commission policies and enterprise auto-service orders, while Xiaomi and ZEEKR are key partners to watch as it expands insurance platforms embedded in carmakers’ apps.

  • YSX Tech competes with SunCar for Chinese insurers’ spending on services for policyholders; both arrange outside providers to deliver services such as vehicle maintenance and designated drivers. Watch YSX’s auto-insurance aftermarket service revenue, which supplied 96.7% of its revenue in the fiscal year ended March 31, 2026.

  • Tesla sells electric cars to drivers, and SunCar serves Tesla through its insurance technology service center and embedded auto-service and insurance offerings for EV owners. Tesla’s electric-car sales in China are worth watching for SunCar: expanding EV adoption helped support SunCar’s insurance-policy growth in 2025.

  • Li Auto’s sales to families in China connect SunCar to demand for EV-owner services: Li Auto sells premium smart electric vehicles, while SunCar works with it to offer owners auto services and insurance. Watch sales to that family customer base as a sign of the market SunCar can serve, rather than treating Li Auto’s vehicle revenue as SunCar revenue.

  • XPeng gives SunCar another route to EV owners: it sells smart electric vehicles primarily in China, while SunCar works with it to embed auto services and offer insurance to those owners. Watch XPeng’s China vehicle sales for a read on that customer market, rather than its overseas expansion or company-wide revenue alone.
