Qualys helps businesses and government organizations identify the devices and systems they operate, find and prioritize security weaknesses, fix them and check compliance. Customers use its Qualys Enterprise TruRisk Platform and Qualys Cloud Apps through a unified web interface, choosing the applications and coverage they need.
Customers generally buy renewable annual subscriptions covering a specified number of devices or web applications, and Qualys usually bills the full fee upfront. Direct sales and channel partners both contribute substantial revenue. In partner sales, Qualys sells the subscription to the partner at a discount; the partner resells it to the customer and keeps the difference. No single customer dominates revenue. The business depends on customers renewing subscriptions and expanding their use to more applications or broader coverage, alongside new customer sales.
Government sales have an additional condition: Qualys must maintain its FedRAMP authorization to serve some U.S. federal customers. Export controls and sanctions also restrict where it can sell, and some encryption-based solutions require export authorization.
The risk section is the longest, dullest part of the filing. This keeps only what can really hurt you: where it hits, how hard, when it plays out.
Every company claims an edge. Each one is checked against hard numbers like margins and returns: which hold, and which line gives way first.
Tenable and Qualys compete for enterprise security teams’ spending on finding and fixing weaknesses in IT and cloud assets. Watch Tenable One’s expansion beyond vulnerability checks into asset inventory and patch management, areas also served by Qualys.
Rapid7 competes with Qualys for security teams’ spending on prioritizing and fixing weaknesses across cloud, endpoint and on-premises systems. Its Command Platform combines that work with threat detection and response, making its product updates worth watching for changes in what those teams can buy together.
CrowdStrike and Qualys compete for organizations’ security subscriptions where endpoint protection, threat detection and response overlap. Watch additions to Falcon’s security modules: CrowdStrike says customers can add them without deploying extra sensors.
Palo Alto Networks competes with Qualys for customers’ cloud-security spending while seeking to replace separate security products with integrated platforms. Watch which capabilities it packages together, as that shows how broadly customers can consolidate their security purchases.
SentinelOne and Qualys compete for security teams’ spending on endpoint and cloud protection, including threat detection and response. Watch the capabilities included in Singularity’s higher tiers, which extend beyond basic endpoint protection into cloud, identity and security services.

Tenable's report will show whether security teams are taking up more asset inventory and patch-management capabilities, areas where it competes with Qualys for their budgets.
Look for whether Tenable One is extending beyond vulnerability checks into asset inventory and patch management, and whether the report points to customer adoption of those capabilities. More signs of adoption would mean security teams may place more of this work on one platform, bringing Tenable into more direct competition with Qualys for those subscriptions. Little evidence of uptake would leave less added pressure on Qualys's core vulnerability-management business. The conclusion is whether Tenable is turning a broader offering into customer adoption.

Qualys earns subscription revenue when customers renew and expand their purchases, and this report will show whether its existing customer base is still driving growth.
Read the net dollar expansion rate alongside revenue growth. This rate tracks how subscription spending by existing customers changes after expansions, reductions and cancellations. If it holds or rises while revenue grows, existing customers are still spending more overall; if it falls and growth relies more on new customers, the existing base is providing less support. Qualys recognizes subscription revenue over the service term, so reported revenue may not immediately reflect new bookings. The conclusion is whether renewals and expansions among existing customers still underpin growth.
