Company

Company overview

Pyxis Tankers Inc. transports refined petroleum products and other liquid cargoes for commodity traders, oil companies and refiners. Its product tankers generate most of its revenue. It also operates dry-bulk carriers that transport commodities for producers, traders and other shipping companies.

Most revenue comes from time charters: customers pay a daily rate to use a ship, while Pyxis supplies the crew, operates the vessel and pays its operating costs. Customers generally pay fuel and port charges. The company also takes individual voyage contracts, typically charging by the ton and paying voyage expenses itself. Repairs and dry-docking interrupt the time ships can earn revenue.

Revenue is concentrated among a small group of charterers, with ST Shipping, Clearlake Shipping and Chevron among its major customers. Earnings depend on demand for seaborne cargo, the supply of competing ships and the rates available when charters need replacing. Ships must retain their classification and pass inspections to remain employable, while sanctions restrict where the company can operate and whose cargo it can carry.

  • ARDMORE SHIPPING CORPORATION competes with Pyxis Tankers Inc. for customers paying to move clean petroleum products and liquid chemicals in mid-sized tankers. With most Ardmore vessels hired directly for individual voyages, its spot-market results are worth watching for conditions facing Pyxis’ product tankers.

  • Scorpio Tankers Inc. competes with Pyxis Tankers Inc. for customers hiring medium-range (MR) tankers to carry refined petroleum products worldwide. Watch Scorpio’s MR business rather than its larger and smaller tanker classes for the closest overlap with Pyxis.

  • TORM plc competes with Pyxis Tankers Inc. for customers paying medium-range (MR) tankers to transport gasoline, jet fuel, naphtha and other refined oil products. TORM mainly hires its tankers out for individual voyages, making that spot business the part to watch for competition over these cargoes.

  • Hafnia Limited competes with Pyxis Tankers Inc. for oil companies and commodity traders paying to transport petroleum products and chemicals. Watch the prices Hafnia secures for this transport: both companies compete for charters on price and on which vessels can serve the trade.

  • Imperial Petroleum Inc. competes with Pyxis Tankers Inc. for paying cargo customers in both medium-range (MR) refined-product tankers and dry-bulk shipping, including Kamsarmax vessels. Its planned purchases of additional dry-bulk carriers and a product tanker are worth watching because both additions overlap with Pyxis’ businesses.

  • International Seaways, Inc. competes with Pyxis Tankers Inc. for customers hiring medium-range (MR) tankers to transport refined petroleum products; it operated 33 MR vessels at December 31, 2025. Its product-carrier business is the closer comparison for Pyxis, rather than the crude-oil transport that also contributes to its revenue.

  • Globus Maritime Limited competes directly with Pyxis Tankers Inc. for customers hiring Ultramax and Kamsarmax ships to carry dry-bulk cargo. Its contracts to build two additional Ultramax vessels are worth watching for added competition in one of Pyxis’ vessel-size markets.

  • Star Bulk Carriers Corp. competes with Pyxis Tankers Inc. for customers hiring Kamsarmax and Ultramax ships to carry dry-bulk cargo. Star Bulk earns hire from miners, utilities, commodity traders and shipping companies, so watch its employment of these ship sizes rather than its much broader fleet as a whole.

  • Navios Maritime Partners L.P. competes with both Pyxis Tankers Inc. businesses by charging customers to use ships carrying dry-bulk commodities and refined petroleum products. Watch its dry-bulk and tanker charter renewals, rather than container contracts, for the competition relevant to Pyxis.

  • Tsakos Energy Navigation Ltd. competes with Pyxis Tankers Inc. for oil companies and refiners paying for product-tanker transport, but its substantial crude-oil and gas shipping businesses make it a less direct comparison.

  • TOP Ships Inc.’s owned and jointly owned 50,000-deadweight-ton product tankers compete with Pyxis Tankers Inc.’s medium-range (MR) tankers for customers paying to move refined products and chemicals. Watch the charter terms these product tankers secure, rather than TOP Ships’ crude-oil ships.

  • Toro Corp. competes with Pyxis Tankers Inc. for customers hiring medium-range (MR) tankers to transport refined products, while its liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) ships serve a separate market. Watch Toro’s Eco and Non-Eco tanker segment results for the overlap with Pyxis, not its LPG revenue.

  • Pangaea Logistics Solutions Ltd. competes with Pyxis Tankers Inc. for dry-bulk cargo customers and vessel hire, while also offering industrial customers cargo handling and port services. Its ships equipped for icy waters earn premiums in specialized trades, so those margins are less directly comparable with Pyxis’ dry-bulk business.

  • Castor Maritime Inc. competes with Pyxis Tankers Inc. for customers paying to ship dry-bulk commodities such as iron ore, coal and soybeans. Watch Castor’s dry-bulk segment separately: container shipping and asset-management services dilute the relevance of its overall results to Pyxis.

  • Robin Energy Ltd. competes with Pyxis Tankers Inc. for customers paying to transport refined petroleum products, but its two liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) carriers operate in a separate charter market. Its tanker segment’s revenue is the relevant line to watch, rather than combining it with LPG shipping.
