Precision Drilling Corporation drills onshore wells for oil, natural gas and geothermal producers in Canada, the United States and the Middle East. Customers set the drilling program, and Precision supplies the drilling-rig services. This work generates most of its revenue. Customers generally pay for each day a rig works, with some contracts adding performance-based payments. Precision also charges extra for Alpha drilling automation and analytics and EverGreen products that measure and help reduce rig emissions.
Its smaller Canadian well-servicing business helps producers prepare wells for production, repair or maintain existing wells, and close wells no longer needed. Most of this activity involves maintaining existing wells or closing them, rather than completing new wells. Equipment rentals and accommodation services provide additional revenue.
Revenue depends on how many rigs customers use and the daily rates they agree to pay. Producers’ drilling budgets respond to oil and gas prices, but their preference for conserving cash can limit work even when prices are favorable. A substantial share of revenue comes from a group of large drilling customers. Longer-term contracts usually require early-termination payments, while well-to-well contracts can end on short notice with little protection.
The risk section is the longest, dullest part of the filing. This keeps only what can really hurt you: where it hits, how hard, when it plays out.
Every company claims an edge. Each one is checked against hard numbers like margins and returns: which hold, and which line gives way first.
Precision Drilling Corporation’s results hinge on Canadian and U.S. land-drilling budgets and rig pricing; Ensign Energy Services is another rival to watch beyond this list.
Helmerich & Payne competes with Precision Drilling Corporation for U.S. oil and gas producers paying for high-specification land rigs and drilling technology. Watch H&P’s contracted rig activity and pricing: it has the largest U.S. super-spec fleet and reports that excess rig supply creates strong price competition.
Nabors Industries competes with Precision Drilling Corporation to supply rigs, crews and drilling automation to U.S. oil and gas producers, which generally pay a daily charge for drilling. Watch Nabors’ daily rig rates and revenue from software and performance-enhancing services sold on top of rig charges for clues to pricing pressure on Precision.
Patterson-UTI Energy Inc competes with Precision Drilling Corporation for oil and gas producers’ spending on land drilling and services that steer wells along a planned path, known as directional drilling. Watch its APEX rig technology, including Cortex controls and EcoCell battery systems that help reduce fuel use, against Precision’s digital and environmental offerings.
Ovintiv’s Canadian and U.S. development plans offer a demand signal for Precision Drilling Corporation’s main land-drilling markets: Ovintiv sells oil and gas, while Precision is paid to drill for producers. Watch investment in Ovintiv’s Canadian Montney and U.S. shale properties as a guide to regional drilling demand, not evidence of a customer relationship.
Canadian Natural Resources and Precision Drilling Corporation share exposure to western Canadian oil and gas economics: Canadian Natural sells production, while Precision earns fees for drilling and servicing producers’ wells. Watch Canadian Natural’s spending on western Canadian oil and gas development for a signal of demand for Precision’s Canadian fleets.
Baytex Energy Corp.’s Canadian development budget is a signal for the producer spending that drives Precision Drilling Corporation’s drilling demand: Baytex produces oil and gas, while Precision sells drilling services. Watch Baytex’s Canadian heavy- and light-oil development plans; it sold its U.S. Eagle Ford assets in December 2025.
Precision Drilling Corporation earningsThis company
Precision Drilling earns contract-drilling revenue from rig utilization and day rates, and this report will show whether they are sustaining the segment's margin.
Read contract-drilling rig utilization and day rates alongside the segment's Adjusted EBITDA margin. Adjusted EBITDA is the company's measure of results from its main business activities before financing, foreign exchange, tax, depreciation and amortization effects. Rising utilization or rates with a steady margin would show that more work or better pricing is reaching operating earnings; weaker utilization or rates with a falling margin would show drilling demand or bidding pressure is squeezing returns.
Nabors Industries Ltd. earningsNBR
Nabors Industries' report will show what U.S. oil and gas producers are paying for rigs and add-on technology services, giving a competitive signal for Precision Drilling's U.S. business.
Watch Nabors Industries' rig day rates alongside revenue from software and performance-enhancing services sold on top of rig charges. Steady rates and growing add-on revenue would suggest producers still pay for drilling capacity and technology, supporting the pricing case for Precision Drilling's rigs and services such as Alpha; declines in both would point to tougher bidding that could pressure Precision's rates and add-on revenue.
Canadian Natural Resources Limited earningsCNQ
Canadian Natural Resources' report will show its western Canadian oil and gas development spending, a signal for demand for Precision Drilling's Canadian rigs.
Watch Canadian Natural Resources' spending and plans for development in western Canada. Steady or higher investment would signal that producers in the region are still funding development, supporting demand for Precision Drilling's Canadian rigs; cuts would mean fewer potential drilling jobs and could weigh on utilization and day rates. This is a regional demand signal, not evidence that Canadian Natural is a Precision customer.
