Company

Company overview

LCNB Corporation is an Ohio financial holding company whose business is almost entirely conducted by its wholly owned LCNB National Bank. The bank serves businesses and individuals in southwestern and south-central Ohio and northern Kentucky. It uses customer deposits and borrowings to fund loans and investment securities. Borrowers and securities issuers pay interest, and the amount left after funding interest costs is its main source of operating income.

Commercial real estate accounts for most of the loan portfolio, with residential mortgages another substantial part. Although the bank says it does not depend on one significant customer or industry, its business is closely tied to its Ohio markets and borrowers’ ability to generate cash from businesses and properties. Earnings also depend on how loan and investment yields compare with deposit and borrowing costs as interest rates change.

The holding company relies on dividends from the bank for most of its cash. Banking rules limit those payments according to retained earnings and minimum capital requirements; payments above the permitted earnings limit require regulatory approval.

Both attract savers’ money to lend to local borrowers, making Heartland’s deposit gathering and lending in those markets worth watching for LCNB.

  • CF Bankshares, through CFBank, competes with LCNB for business borrowers and deposit relationships in Cincinnati and Columbus, earning interest and fees from lending funded largely by deposits. CFBank’s emphasis on personal service and direct access to decision-makers challenges the same customer appeal LCNB relies on.

  • Park National Corporation competes with LCNB for business borrowers, homebuyers and depositors in the Ohio communities both serve, putting their commercial loans, mortgages and deposits in direct competition.

  • PNC Financial Services Group competes with LCNB across southwestern Ohio for households’ deposits and mortgages and businesses’ banking relationships—the customers who supply deposits and borrow from both banks.

  • First Merchants Corp competes with LCNB for commercial loans and household banking relationships in central Ohio, seeking the same businesses that borrow and households that use local banking services.

  • Old National Bancorp competes with LCNB for business loans and household deposits in the Cincinnati-area banking market, vying for both business borrowers and the savers who provide banks with funding.

    Fed Interest Rate Decision

For LCNB, the Fed’s rate decision signals how borrowing costs and yields on its loans and investments may change, affecting what borrowers pay, what the bank pays for deposits and borrowings, and its net interest income.
