Quaker Houghton supplies chemicals used in manufacturing processes, including machining metal and rolling steel and aluminum. Metal removal fluids and rolling lubricants are its largest product lines. Steel, aluminum, automotive and other industrial manufacturers pay for these products and related services.
Most sales go directly to customers. Employees visit plants, identify production needs and supply existing products or formulations developed in the company’s laboratories. Through Fluidcare, Quaker Houghton also manages chemicals at customer sites. This connects product sales with ongoing work on the customer’s manufacturing process, rather than simply selling chemicals through distributors.
Demand depends largely on production volumes in the industries it serves, not directly on customers’ profits. No single customer accounts for a large share of sales, although steel and aluminum customers can use substantial volumes at individual plants. Profitability also depends on passing changes in raw-material costs through to customers, which can take time or prove difficult. Chemical regulations and operating permits limit which formulations it can manufacture, use and sell.
The risk section is the longest, dullest part of the filing. This keeps only what can really hurt you: where it hits, how hard, when it plays out.
Every company claims an edge. Each one is checked against hard numbers like margins and returns: which hold, and which line gives way first.
Quaker Houghton’s results hinge on steel, aluminum and metalworking production volumes; Castrol is another important industrial-specialty competitor to watch that is absent from this list.
Element Solutions Inc. competes with Quaker Houghton to sell manufacturers chemicals for industrial surface finishing and other specialty applications. Watch its Specialties sales rather than its electronics-heavy total: surface solutions accounted for 10.9% of Quaker Houghton’s net sales in 2025.
Minerals Technologies Inc and Quaker Houghton both depend on steelmaking and metalcasting activity: Minerals Technologies sells steelmakers heat-resistant materials and foundries mineral products, while Quaker Houghton sells metal-processing fluids. Demand from those steel and foundry customers is the connection to watch.
PPG Industries and Quaker Houghton share exposure to automotive, aerospace and industrial production: PPG sells manufacturers coatings used in production, while Quaker Houghton sells them process fluids. PPG’s Industrial Coatings sales are a more relevant signal for Quaker Houghton than its building-paint business.
Illinois Tool Works and Quaker Houghton both depend on activity at automotive and industrial plants: ITW sells automotive components, welding equipment and industrial fluids, while Quaker Houghton sells manufacturing process fluids. ITW’s Automotive OEM and Welding results are worth watching for signs of demand in those shared markets.
Element Solutions Inc. earningsESI
Element Solutions’ Specialties business overlaps with Quaker Houghton’s surface solutions, so its results offer a more relevant read on demand and competition than its electronics-heavy total.
Focus on Element Solutions’ Specialties sales, not its total, which is heavily influenced by electronics. Stronger sales would show support for demand across that segment and an active rival in overlapping applications such as surface finishing; weaker sales could reflect softer demand or Element-specific factors, not prove Quaker Houghton is winning business.
Quaker Houghton earningsThis company
Quaker Houghton sells process fluids to steel, automotive and other manufacturers, and its report will show whether their production is bringing in more orders and whether changing raw-material costs are squeezing segment earnings.
Read organic sales volume alongside segment operating earnings, which subtracts direct product costs and other segment items but is not the company’s final net profit. Rising organic volume with stronger segment earnings would indicate improving demand from customer production without costs wiping out the gain; weak volume or falling earnings would point to soft end markets or costs that are not being recovered.
Minerals Technologies Inc earningsMTX
Minerals Technologies supplies steelmakers and foundries with heat-resistant materials and mineral products, so its related results offer a demand signal for markets Quaker Houghton serves with metal-processing fluids.
Look for results tied to steel and foundry customers; Minerals Technologies sells different products, so its sales are not Quaker Houghton’s orders. Strength there would suggest firmer demand in markets Quaker serves, while weakness would flag pressure in those end markets—not establish how Quaker’s own volume changed.
Industrial Production MoM (Oct)
Industrial production tracks how much factories, mines and utilities produce; higher or lower U.S. output can change how much steel, aluminum, automotive and other manufacturing customers use Quaker Houghton’s process fluids and services, affecting its sales.
Read the output level as a signal of demand from the industries Quaker Houghton serves: rising production may mean customers use more process fluids and services, while falling production may mean less use and lower sales.
