Minerals Technologies Inc mines and processes minerals into materials customers use in finished goods, manufacturing and construction. Product sales provide most of its revenue. Its consumer and specialty materials business is slightly larger than its industrial solutions business.
On the consumer side, the company supplies retailers with private-label cat litter, sells to national brands and markets litter to businesses under SIVO. It also sells mineral additives used in products such as paper and packaging. For many paper customers, it owns and operates plants near their mills, producing precipitated calcium carbonate—a mineral additive that helps control paper properties. Long-term supply agreements generally cover substantially all of each host mill’s needs, tying this business to those mills’ continued production and contract renewals.
Industrial customers buy mineral blends that strengthen casting molds, heat-resistant materials that line furnaces, and related application systems and maintenance services. This is the larger part of the industrial business; a smaller line supplies construction and environmental projects with products such as waste-site liners and FLUORO-SORB for removing PFAS contaminants from water and soil.
The business depends on access to suitable mineral reserves, many supplied by its own mines, and purchased inputs such as lime and magnesia. Mining requires permits, leases or other rights that governments may change or revoke.
The risk section is the longest, dullest part of the filing. This keeps only what can really hurt you: where it hits, how hard, when it plays out.
Every company claims an edge. Each one is checked against hard numbers like margins and returns: which hold, and which line gives way first.
Minerals Technologies also depends on cat-litter competition and demand from paper and packaging mills, neither of which this list closely represents.
Quaker Houghton and Minerals Technologies share exposure to steel, aluminum and automotive production: manufacturers buy process fluids from Quaker Houghton and furnace-lining materials and casting-mold blends from Minerals Technologies. Watch Quaker Houghton’s demand for fluids used in sheet steel and aluminum production for a read on the manufacturing activity supporting Minerals Technologies’ high-temperature products.
Cabot Corporation and Minerals Technologies share the automotive and industrial manufacturing cycle: Cabot sells reinforcing carbons to those manufacturers, while Minerals Technologies sells blends that strengthen casting molds and materials that line furnaces. Watch Cabot’s demand tied to vehicle production rather than replacement tires, whose demand has historically been less cyclical.
Pfizer historically paid most of Minerals Technologies’ talc litigation costs under agreements tied to its 1992 IPO; the disputed scope of that protection affects what Minerals Technologies may have to pay, rather than linking it to Pfizer’s drug sales. Watch the mediation and Pfizer’s claims that certain defense or settlement costs fall outside those agreements.
Fed Interest Rate Decision
For Minerals Technologies, Federal Reserve decisions track the cost of borrowing across the economy and can change interest expense on its SOFR-based secured debt.

If it comes in above expectations
If the policy rate is above the estimate, higher borrowing costs may raise interest expense on secured debt that reprices with SOFR, leaving less cash for operations and investment.
If it comes in below expectations
If the policy rate is below the estimate, cheaper borrowing may reduce interest expense on secured debt that reprices with SOFR, leaving more cash for operations and investment.
Minerals Technologies Inc earningsThis company
Minerals Technologies’ report will show whether margins in Consumer & Specialties can recover while Engineered Solutions holds its margin.
Read Consumer & Specialties sales alongside its operating margin, then compare both with Engineered Solutions. A recovering margin in the larger Consumer & Specialties segment, with Engineered Solutions holding steady, would show that pressure on profit is easing without weakness spreading to the industrial business. Falling margins in both would show that product sales are still yielding less profit.
Quaker Houghton earningsKWR
Quaker Chemical’s report will show demand for process fluids used in sheet steel and aluminum production, a read on activity supporting Minerals Technologies’ furnace linings and casting-mold blends.
Look at Quaker Chemical's demand for fluids used in sheet steel and aluminum production. Stronger demand would point to more activity in those markets and support demand for Minerals Technologies' high-temperature products; weaker demand would signal cooling activity and put its furnace-lining and casting-mold-blend orders at risk.
Industrial Production MoM (Oct)
For Minerals Technologies, industrial production tracks how much factories, mines and utilities make, influencing paper and packaging, steelmaking, foundry and construction customers’ purchases of its mineral products and industrial solutions.
Rising industrial production would point to firmer demand from the paper and packaging, foundry and steelmaking customers that buy Minerals Technologies’ products; falling production would point to weaker demand and potentially fewer purchases.
