Company overview

Inhibikase Therapeutics focuses its resources on IKT-001, an experimental oral treatment for pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH). IKT-001 is a modified form of imatinib that converts into the drug in the body. The company has begun its Phase 3 IMPROVE-PAH study and relies on outside organizations to run trials and manufacture drug supplies. Its business depends heavily on completing IKT-001’s development and obtaining regulatory approval.

The company has no approved drugs and has never earned revenue from product sales. Equity fundraising has supported development. If IKT-001 is approved, Inhibikase may sell it itself or license it to another company; it currently lacks sales, marketing and distribution capabilities. Future sales would depend in part on government health programs and private insurers covering treatment and providing reimbursement.

Inhibikase paused its own development of risvodetinib (IKT-148009) and granted ABLi Therapeutics an exclusive global license to develop, manufacture and commercialize it. ABLi can pay Inhibikase when development and regulatory milestones are met, and royalties if the drug generates sales. This potential income depends on ABLi advancing the licensed drug.

Inhibikase's prospects hinge chiefly on IKT-001's pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH) trial and approval, while ABLi Therapeutics controls development of licensed risvodetinib and the associated potential milestone payments and royalties.

  • Gossamer Bio's Phase 3 setback with seralutinib, a treatment being developed for PAH, highlights the clinical risk facing Inhibikase's IKT-001 and changes its competitive context. The PROSERA trial missed its prespecified statistical-significance threshold, a reminder that earlier results do not establish whether IKT-001 will succeed.

  • United Therapeutics already sells several medicines for the PAH patients Inhibikase seeks to treat with IKT-001. Adoption and sales of treatments such as Remodulin and Orenitram help show the established competition IKT-001 would face; Tyvaso sales also include a separate lung-disease indication.

  • Liquidia earns money from inhaled and injectable PAH treatments in the disease market Inhibikase hopes to enter with IKT-001. Watch YUTREPIA sales, which also cover PH-ILD, and Liquidia's share of profits from U.S. sales of Sandoz's generic Treprostinil Injection for evidence of its commercial foothold.

  • Insmed's PAH treatments in development would compete for the patients Inhibikase targets with IKT-001. Its PAH development news is the relevant signal here, rather than sales of ARIKAYCE and BRINSUPRI, which treat other respiratory diseases.

  • Merck's sotatercept gives Inhibikase's proposed IKT-001 treatment a commercial benchmark in PAH beyond medicines that mainly widen blood vessels. Sotatercept generated $1.44 billion in 2025 revenue, and Inhibikase says its success renewed interest in PAH treatments that target excessive cell growth.

  • Johnson & Johnson already markets PAH medicines to the patient population Inhibikase hopes to reach with IKT-001. It sells prescription medicines through retailers, wholesalers, distributors, hospitals and healthcare professionals, and includes pulmonary hypertension among its Innovative Medicine priorities.
