Company

Company overview

Eagle Materials supplies materials for roads, buildings and housing. Cement is its largest revenue source: it produces cement and sells it directly to customers for use in concrete, with infrastructure construction its main end market. It also sells ready-mix concrete and crushed stone, sand and gravel to construction contractors. These businesses serve regional markets because cement is expensive to transport over long distances.

Its other major business sells American Gypsum wallboard through building-materials dealers and distributors, mainly for homebuilding, repairs and remodeling. A small group of customers accounts for most wallboard sales. Eagle also turns recovered wastepaper into paperboard, supplying its own wallboard plants and selling to other manufacturers. Contracts with a small group of outside wallboard manufacturers provide a substantial share of paperboard revenue.

Demand depends on public infrastructure spending and construction activity in the regions Eagle serves. Regional supply and demand affect selling prices, while fuel, electricity and freight costs affect what it earns on each sale. Its plants and quarries also depend on environmental permits, mining rights and water rights; losing or failing to renew those approvals can restrict operations or expansion.

Watch Heidelberg Materials, Eagle Materials' partner in Texas Lehigh, for regional cement economics, and housing demand for Eagle's substantial wallboard business.

  • Amrize competes with Eagle Materials to supply cement, crushed stone, sand and gravel, and ready-mix concrete to infrastructure and building projects. Its cement pricing and sales to infrastructure customers offer a read on the markets supporting Eagle's heavy-materials business.

  • Cemex competes with Eagle Materials in the United States, selling cement, ready-mix concrete and aggregates for construction. Watch its U.S. operations rather than its worldwide results for clues to the demand and regional capacity facing Eagle's heavy-materials business.

  • CRH competes with Eagle Materials to supply U.S. construction customers with cement, aggregates and concrete, making its U.S. materials business the relevant comparison for Eagle's heavy-materials operations.

  • Martin Marietta and Eagle Materials compete for U.S. construction customers buying crushed stone, sand, gravel and ready-mix concrete. Martin Marietta's aggregates shipments to highways and other public infrastructure are worth watching: those projects took 37% of its aggregates shipments in 2025 and infrastructure is Eagle's main heavy-materials end market.

  • Vulcan Materials competes with Eagle Materials to sell crushed stone, sand, gravel and ready-mix concrete into U.S. construction markets, including Texas. Texas was Vulcan's second-largest revenue-producing state in 2025, making its business there a useful comparison for Eagle's local concrete and aggregates operations.

  • Knife River names Eagle Materials as a regional competitor; both sell aggregates and ready-mix concrete to construction customers. Watch Knife River's local materials business rather than treating its mainly public-sector contracting revenue as a direct match for Eagle: heavy materials are costly to transport and ready-mix concrete sets quickly.

  • Louisiana-Pacific's siding sales share the homebuilding and remodeling cycle that drives Eagle Materials' gypsum wallboard demand, rather than competing for the same product orders. Watch its engineered-wood siding sales through retailers, wholesalers and homebuilders for another view of residential building demand.

  • Builders FirstSource sells materials and installation services to residential builders whose work also creates demand for Eagle Materials' gypsum wallboard. Its sales of framing packages, windows and doors to new-home and remodeling customers offer another view of the housing activity behind Eagle's wallboard sales.

  • Boise Cascade's wood-product sales and building-materials distribution respond to the same homebuilding demand that drives Eagle Materials' wallboard sales, giving Eagle holders a housing comparison rather than a direct wallboard rival.
