Louisiana-Pacific supplies materials for new homes, renovations and outdoor structures such as sheds. Most revenue comes from engineered-wood siding and trim, including LP SmartSide and its pre-finished ExpertFinish range. Wholesalers, retailers and building businesses buy these products for use by builders and remodeling contractors, primarily in North and South America.
Its other major business makes structural panels for roofs, walls and floors, known as oriented strand board, or OSB. Alongside commodity panels, it sells LP Structural Solutions products with features such as fire resistance and moisture protection. Its largest customers collectively provide a substantial share of sales, though no single customer dominates revenue.
Demand depends mainly on North American home construction and repair and remodeling. OSB earnings also depend on commodity prices set largely by industry supply and demand. Production requires wood fiber and resin, so their availability and cost matter. Environmental laws governing emissions, hazardous substances and restoration also constrain how the company operates.
The risk section is the longest, dullest part of the filing. This keeps only what can really hurt you: where it hits, how hard, when it plays out.
Every company claims an edge. Each one is checked against hard numbers like margins and returns: which hold, and which line gives way first.
Louisiana-Pacific’s siding growth also depends on taking share from alternative materials sold by rivals such as privately held Allura, which is absent from this list.
West Fraser Timber Co. Ltd competes with Louisiana-Pacific to sell structural panels used in buildings; both make oriented strand board (OSB) and face the same commodity pricing pressure. Watch West Fraser’s OSB capacity news, since demand relative to available capacity drives the prices Louisiana-Pacific receives.
Boise Cascade Company’s plywood competes with Louisiana-Pacific’s OSB for structural-panel uses in homebuilding. Boise manufactures plywood and routes an increasing share through its own building-materials distributor, so watch that plywood sales channel for competitive pressure on Louisiana-Pacific’s panels.
BlueLinx Holdings Inc. buys Louisiana-Pacific products and resells them to dealers and other local suppliers, giving Louisiana-Pacific access to customers it may not adequately serve directly. BlueLinx’s residential building-products sales are worth watching because both companies depend on home construction and repair-and-remodeling spending.
Builders FirstSource sells framing materials and sheet goods to professional homebuilders whose building activity also creates demand for Louisiana-Pacific’s OSB and siding. Watch its framing and sheet-goods sales for a read on the U.S. residential construction market that both serve.
UFP Industries, Inc. sells wood and composite products into construction and retail markets that also support Louisiana-Pacific’s siding and structural-panel demand. Its sales to big-box retailers and independent distributors offer a view of the home-improvement spending both depend on.
Trex Company, Inc. shares Louisiana-Pacific’s exposure to residential exterior-improvement spending: Trex sells composite decking, while Louisiana-Pacific sells engineered-wood siding. Watch Trex’s decking sales through distributors and home centers for a view of that spending, rather than of new-home construction alone.
Simpson Manufacturing Co., Inc. sells connectors and fasteners that hold wood structures together, while Louisiana-Pacific sells the structural panels used in those buildings. Simpson’s wood-construction product sales are the relevant signal for Louisiana-Pacific’s panel demand, rather than its concrete-construction business.
Home Depot sells building materials to homeowners and professional contractors whose projects also create demand for Louisiana-Pacific’s siding and OSB. Watch its residential repair-and-remodeling customers’ spending on building materials, rather than treating all of its retail sales as a signal for Louisiana-Pacific.
Lowe’s sells home-improvement materials to homeowners and remodelers whose project spending also supports Louisiana-Pacific’s engineered-wood siding demand. Watch sales to repair-and-remodeling customers: more than half of Louisiana-Pacific’s siding demand comes from markets other than new housing, including remodeling and off-site structure production.
Housing Starts (Sep)
Louisiana-Pacific sells siding, trim and structural OSB panels for new homes, so the pace of homebuilding can change builders’ orders and the company’s shipments and sales.
Expected1.31MLast release1.275M
If it comes in above expectations
If the reading is above the 1.31M estimate, it is above the previous 1.275M. More homebuilding than expected may lead builders to order more LP siding and OSB for new projects, lifting shipments and sales; OSB is especially exposed because it made up about 31% of 2025 net sales.
If it comes in below expectations
Less homebuilding than expected may prompt builders to reduce or delay orders for LP siding and OSB, weighing on shipments and sales; OSB is especially exposed because it made up about 31% of 2025 net sales.
West Fraser Timber Co. Ltd earningsWFG
West Fraser Timber competes with Louisiana-Pacific in structural panels, and its OSB capacity and sales will show how supply and demand are shaping the panel prices both companies receive.
Watch West Fraser Timber’s OSB sales alongside changes in capacity. Improving sales without a matching capacity increase would suggest demand is strengthening relative to supply, supporting Louisiana-Pacific’s structural-panel prices; rising capacity with weak sales would mean more supply competing for customers and continued pressure on LP’s OSB prices.
Fed Interest Rate Decision
Louisiana-Pacific sells engineered-wood siding and structural OSB panels for homes, so interest rates that affect mortgages and renovation financing can change how much builders and homeowners buy from it.
Expected4.0%Last release4.0%
If it comes in above expectations
If the Fed sets rates above expectations, more expensive mortgages and renovation loans may lead builders and homeowners to defer projects, reducing orders and shipments of LP siding and OSB.
If it comes in below expectations
If the Fed sets rates below expectations, cheaper mortgages and renovation loans may encourage more projects, increasing orders and shipments of LP siding and OSB.
Builders FirstSource, Inc. earningsBLDR
Builders FirstSource sells framing materials and sheet goods to professional homebuilders, so its sales will show whether those builders are buying more of the products that drive Louisiana-Pacific’s OSB and Siding demand.
Focus on Builders FirstSource’s framing-material and sheet-goods sales, not its entire business. Strength in both would indicate professional builders are buying more for new homes, supporting demand for Louisiana-Pacific’s OSB and Siding; weakening sales would point to fewer orders tied to new construction.
Louisiana-Pacific Corp. earningsThis company
Louisiana-Pacific relies on Siding for most of its sales and faces sharper price swings in OSB, so this report will show whether both businesses are holding up.
Read sales, shipments and average selling prices for each segment alongside Adjusted EBITDA, the company’s non-GAAP profit measure. If Siding prices and shipments keep growing and its profit improves, product mix and pricing are still supporting earnings; weakness in either would narrow that support. If OSB prices and shipments recover along with profit, demand relative to available supply is improving; continued weakness would show low panel prices still weighing on earnings. Together, the results show whether Louisiana-Pacific is becoming less reliant on Siding to offset OSB pressure.
Lowe's Companies Inc. earningsLOW
Lowe’s sells home-improvement materials to homeowners and remodelers, and its repair-and-remodeling sales will show whether spending is holding up in a market that supports Louisiana-Pacific’s siding demand.
Watch Lowe’s building-material sales to repair-and-remodeling customers, rather than treating all its retail sales as a siding signal. Stable or rising relevant sales would suggest homeowners and remodelers are still undertaking projects, supporting Louisiana-Pacific’s siding demand beyond new homes; a decline would point to weakness in that source of demand.
