Company

Company overview

Eocene Ltd.’s drug-development business centers on Aramchol. It historically developed the candidate for a fatty-liver disease called NASH and is now seeking to advance it for cancer indications while exploring other candidates for cardiometabolic diseases. It does not currently expect to start the second part of its ARMOR study. The company has no approved products and has not generated product-sales revenue.

Samil holds exclusive rights to commercialize Aramchol for fatty-liver indications in South Korea. It has paid the company an upfront licensing fee and a milestone payment. The company expects no revenue other than further milestones or sales royalties that may become payable under this agreement; these are potential payments, not an existing stream of drug sales.

Operations have been funded mainly by private placements and public share offerings, and further development requires substantial additional capital. Aramchol cannot be marketed without approval from the relevant regulator. If a candidate is approved, the company expects to rely primarily on outside partners to market and sell it, with commercial success also depending on insurance coverage and reimbursement.

With Eocene Ltd. not currently expecting to start ARMOR’s second part, watch Samil: prospective Aramchol revenue hinges on milestone payments and sales royalties under its Korean license.

  • Madrigal Pharmaceuticals already sells Rezdiffra for MASH with liver fibrosis, competing for the patients Eocene Ltd.’s Aramchol aims to treat. Watch Rezdiffra’s U.S. sales for evidence of uptake in that market.

  • Sagimet Biosciences is developing denifanstat for the same MASH treatment market as Eocene Ltd.’s Aramchol. Watch denifanstat’s efficacy, safety and dosing convenience—the factors Sagimet identifies as shaping competition for these patients.

  • Inventiva is concentrating development on oral lanifibranor for MASH, a rival to Eocene Ltd.’s Aramchol in fatty-liver treatment. Lanifibranor is now its only drug candidate in development, so that program is the one to follow.

  • Altimmune’s pemvidutide is being developed for MASH, competing for the fatty-liver patients Eocene Ltd.’s Aramchol targets. Watch its MASH trial findings on liver effects and tolerability rather than treating lower trial spending as evidence of weaker competition: enrollment finished in early 2025.

  • Viking Therapeutics’ VK2809 and Eocene Ltd.’s Aramchol are rival drug candidates for MASH-associated liver disease. Viking has not generated revenue, so approvals or commercialization of VK2809 matter more to this comparison than current drug sales.

  • Novo Nordisk already markets Wegovy, which competes in the NASH treatment market Eocene Ltd.’s Aramchol targets. Watch Wegovy’s acceptance for NASH, rather than Novo Nordisk’s broader diabetes business, for the competition relevant to Aramchol.

  • Galectin Therapeutics is developing belapectin in the same MASH-associated liver-fibrosis field as Eocene Ltd.’s Aramchol. Watch belapectin’s development and supply news: Galectin relies on outside manufacturers and has experienced delays affecting its sterile liquid formulation.

  • Gyre Therapeutics is developing Hydronidone for potential U.S. use in MASH-associated liver fibrosis and names Eocene Ltd.’s Aramchol as a competitor. Its sales of pulmonary-fibrosis and liver-related blood-disorder drugs in China support pipeline investment, making that revenue a funding signal for this rival’s development.
