Customers use DHT Holdings’ very large crude carriers, known as VLCCs, to move crude oil on international routes. Its fleet works both on individual voyages in the spot market and under contracts that hire vessels for an agreed period, called time charters. Spot customers typically pay when cargo is discharged; time-charter customers pay monthly in advance.
The business depends heavily on charter rates, which respond to oil demand, the supply of available tankers and the distances oil must travel. Spot employment exposes DHT directly to changing market rates. A small group of its largest customers supplies most of its revenue, making their continued business and payment important.
Environmental and emissions rules can require vessel upgrades or operating changes and restrict access to ports or waters. Sanctions also limit which oil trades DHT can serve, including restrictions on services for Russian oil unless applicable price-cap conditions are met.
The risk section is the longest, dullest part of the filing. This keeps only what can really hurt you: where it hits, how hard, when it plays out.
Every company claims an edge. Each one is checked against hard numbers like margins and returns: which hold, and which line gives way first.
Frontline competes directly with DHT to carry crude oil for oil companies and traders, with 41 very large crude carriers (VLCCs) at December 31, 2025. Watch its VLCC charter earnings for a read on the freight market that also drives DHT’s spot revenue.
Okeanis Eco Tankers Corp. competes with DHT for crude-oil cargoes carried by very large crude carriers (VLCCs), but is more exposed to short-term charter rates. Its earnings from carrying cargo between ports for an agreed freight payment offer a read on the rate changes affecting DHT’s spot business, rather than its fixed-term charters.
International Seaways, Inc. competes with DHT for international crude-oil cargoes; its fleet included 12 very large crude carriers (VLCCs) and other crude tankers at December 31, 2025. Its crude-tanker charter results are more relevant to DHT than its separate business carrying refined petroleum products.
Teekay Tankers Ltd. competes with DHT to transport crude oil, serving energy companies, oil traders and governments, and earns most of its charter revenue in the spot market. Watch its spot tanker earnings for evidence of the freight conditions facing DHT’s spot vessels, rather than treating it as a match for DHT’s time-charter business.
Nordic American Tanker offers customers Suezmax crude-oil tankers as a competing vessel size to DHT’s very large crude carriers (VLCCs). Watch its freight earnings after voyage expenses: changes in pricing between vessel sizes can affect DHT’s ability to win cargoes.
Tsakos Energy Navigation Ltd. (TEN) and DHT compete to charter oil tankers to oil companies and refiners worldwide. Watch the rates TEN secures on new charters for those customers, in a market where oil trading activity and vessel supply help set prices.
Teekay Corporation Ltd. competes with DHT in crude-oil transport through its controlling stake in Teekay Tankers, rather than through a separate crude-tanker operation. Its tanker segment is the relevant comparison for DHT, not its Australian services for government-owned vessels.
CMB.TECH NV competes with DHT through Euronav’s business transporting and storing crude oil, but its other shipping divisions dilute that exposure. Watch Euronav’s crude-oil transport results rather than using the group’s dry-bulk, chemical, container or offshore-service revenue as a guide to DHT.
TOP Ships Inc. competes with DHT for crude-oil charters with two very large crude carriers (VLCCs) and one Suezmax tanker in its fleet reported in its 2026 annual report. Watch the charter terms it secures for those crude tankers, rather than its product and chemical tankers, for a comparison with DHT’s charter business.
Fed Interest Rate Decision
The Fed’s decision signals whether borrowing costs are rising or falling; because DHT’s secured debt bears interest linked to SOFR, higher rates can raise its interest expense and reduce cash available for operations and dividends.
Expected4.0%Last release4.0%
If it comes in above expectations
Higher rates can increase interest expense on DHT’s SOFR-linked secured debt, leaving less cash to meet vessel costs and debt payments or distribute as dividends.
If it comes in below expectations
Lower rates can reduce interest expense on DHT’s SOFR-linked secured debt, leaving more cash for vessel costs, debt payments and potential dividends.
DHT HOLDINGS, INC. earningsThis company
DHT Holdings’ report will show whether freight earned by its spot-market ships, after voyage costs, is supporting the company’s charter revenue.
Read revenue per day from spot-market ships alongside their voyage expenses, then compare the result with time-charter revenue. Higher spot revenue after fuel, port and other voyage costs, with time-charter revenue holding steady, would show both types of employment contributing; weaker net spot revenue, especially alongside declining time-charter revenue, would show freight pressure reaching DHT Holdings’ core business.
Teekay Tankers Ltd. earningsTNK
Teekay Tankers’ report will show what spot-market freight conditions may mean for DHT Holdings’ spot-employed crude tankers.
Look at whether Teekay Tankers’ spot-tanker earnings after voyage expenses rise or fall, and whether the change comes from freight rather than costs. Stronger net earnings would point to a more favorable spot-freight market for DHT Holdings’ spot ships; weaker net earnings would point to pressure on their freight returns, but would not directly show how DHT’s time-chartered ships are doing.
